Montee en Puissance - SM Caen | BigJDotCom01 Production

After getting shown the door by Borussia Monchengladbach, Luther Matthaus has accepted a job with Ligue 1 side SM Caen. The French side has never won a Ligue 1 title. Matthaus will come in and clean house to develop a young speedy club, like the one he put together at Gladbach. With low expectations, he should be able to initially purge the roster of older players and hopefully bring in some young talent.

    2018-19 SEASON
The 411 on the SM Caen:

    MANAGER: Lothar Matthaus
CAREER RECORD: (72-49-37) at Borussia Monchengladbach
    STADIUM: Stade Michel d'Ornano (21,500)

    WEEKLY WAGE BUDGET: $600,000
EXPECTATIONS: A mid-table finish, Round of 32 Coupe de Ligue, Round of 32 Coupe Nationale

Re: Montee en Puissance - SM Caen | BigJDotCom01 Production

SM Caen does not have the resources as Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach had, nonetheless, we do have some decent scouts.

Fuka Arthur Ba: A four-star scout from France will scout in France
Frank Gonther: A four-star scout from Germany will scout in England.
Erik Auassar: a three-star scout from the Netherlands will scout in Italy.
Novem Mvogo: a four-star scout from Switzerland will scout in Switerland.

We have instructions for our scouts to look for players 25 and under only. We are looking for keepers, central defenders, midfielders, and wingers to fit Matthaus' style.

Clement Croizet: is our youth scout. he has five-star judgment and three-star experience. We will have him find French youth talent for us.

            2018-19 Roster

            FORMATION: 4-5-1

Since the club does not have much of a transfer budget, they may just stick to developing youth talent, or plucking a few up and comers.

Beaulieu has come on well and you have a decent forward in Delort. I have done a few Ligue 1 career modes so if you want some players to check out let me know and I'll PM you.

Andy Delort celebrates his penalty conversion.

                SCORING:
                32' - (IPS) - G. Coke
                57' - (SMC) - A. Delort (PEN)

                7/4/18
Cardiff, Wales (AP) - Luthar Matthaus' debut as manager of French side SM Caen was a relative success as they drew 1-1 with English Championship side Ipswich Town on Match Day 1 of the 2018 Champions Trophy Tournament in Wales. A converted penalty in the 57th minute by Andy Delort allowed the French side to earn a point.

Matthaus has changed the shape of SM Caen from a 4-3-3 to a 4-5-1, which is more to his liking. This is a side that isn't used to playing with just one striker, but they looked pretty comfortable in the system, even with only a few days of training under their new leader.

Giles Coke put Ipswich Town in front in the 32nd minute on the English sides first shot attempt. He managed to find some free space in the penalty area and was able to head home a cross from Luke Hyam, past a diving Paul Reulet.

Andy Delort would level the match in the 57th minute as he converted a penalty. Moments earlier, Davis Ishak of Ipswich tripped up Jonathan Beaulieu in the box, earning a yellow card in the process. Jeff Louis had a chance to send Caen to victory in the 88th minute, but his right footed shot curled just wide of the far post.

Caen outshot Ipswich 11-8, and possession was fairly even in the match. Up next for Caen is a match up with Swiss side BSC Young Boys on Sunday afternoon, also in Cardiff.

                  7/8/18
Cardiff, Wales (AP) - For SM Caen and their new manager Luthar Matthaus, it was deju vu from last season on Sunday afternoon at Cardiff City Stadium. Guillaume Haorau got free and stuffed the ball past Louis Deschateaux in the dying moments to send BSC Young Boys and SM Caen to a 2-2 draw on Match Day 2 of the 2018 Champions Trophy Tournament.

This was a pretty entertaining match, with the Swiss side BSC Young Boys getting the better of the scoring chances. But SM Caen, playing a young side, held their own and converted when the opportunities were there.

Young Boys' Miralem Sulejmani got the scoring started in the 53rd minute, running onto a long pass from Samuel Afum and slipping the ball over Louis Deschateaux to put the Swiss side up 1-nil.

Just nine minutes later, Jeff Louis would level the match, dribbling into the box, past two defenders, then rifling a left footed shot into the top right corner. SM Caen would grab the lead in the 79th minute when Jordan Leborgne went short side to beat Dario Marzino. Marzino would make a big save in the 90th minute on Andy Delort to keep it a one goal match. That would end up being huge, because in the dying moments, Guillaume Hoarau would take a cross, control it inside the six and stuff it over Deschateaux to level the match.

The draw left both side with two points heading into a critical final match. AZ Alkmaar leads the group and that is SM Caen's final opponent of the group stage. They will play on Wednesday evening in Cardiff.

Champions Trophy Match Day 2 Results:

                    7/11/18
Cardiff, Wales (AP) - SM Caen got some late match heroics from their captain Jonathan Beaulieu as they slipped past AZ Alkmaar 1-nil on Wednesday evening at Cardiff City Stadium on the final group Match Day of the 2018 Champions Trophy Tournament. Beaulieu scored in the 88th minute to send Caen into the semifinals, earning manager Luthar Matthaus his first win for Caen.

This was the most defensive match of the three for Caen as they fielded a side that could very well resemble what they put out for the opening of their Ligue 1 campaign next month. Keeper Remy Vercoutre earned the clean sheet and was named Man of the Match, stopping all three AZ shots on frame.

Midfielder Jonathan Beaulieu took a pass from Michael Jordan Nkololo, split the AZ defense, then beat keeper Sergio Rochet low and left to put Caen in front in the 88th minute. It was Caen's best chance on the evening and Beaulieu made no mistake.

The win sends Caen into the semifinals on Sunday against Belgian side Standard Liege. AZ Alkmaar heads home as they finished tied with Ipswich Town for second in Group A, but failed to advance on goal differential.

                      7/15/18
Buckinghamshire, England (AP) - SM Caen lost it's composure in a 4-2 loss to Belgian side Standard Liege in the semifinals of the 2018 Champions Trophy at Stadium MK. Alexander Scholz scored twice to lead Standard Liege into the final to face Swiss side FC Basel.

Caen got off to a horrible start in this one as Michael Jordan Nkololo was sent off just five minutes in for a brutal tackle on Mohamed Yattara. That left the side down to ten men for the final 85+ minutes.

Andy Delort failed to capitalize on a great opportunity just six minutes later. He rang a free kick off the crossbar.

Alexander Scholz would put Standard up two minutes later on a beauty. He volleyed home a corner kick from Pierre Mpoku to make it 1-nil.

SM Caen would go down a second man in the 31st minute when star midfielder Jonathan Beaulieu was sent off for a rather innocent looking tackle. The replay showed that he got the ball first and did not show his studs, but he was sent off and Caen was down to nine men.

Caen would weather the Standard storm and somehow found an equalizer just before halftime as Emmanuel Imorou was tripped in the box. Alan Delort stepped up and drilled the penalty to level the match at 1-1. But just before the halftime whistle, Standard added a second that really seemed to deflate the French side. Mohamed Yattara came down the right flank and rocketed a shot into the top right corner to put Standard Liege up 2-1 at the break.

They would take advantage of a depleted Caen side after halftime, exploiting holes in the defense to add two more goals and make it 4-1. Caen would get a late penalty that Jeff Louis converted, but they fell 4-2.

The club now will turn it's attention to the season opener of Ligue 1 in just over a month as they will travel to Montpellier to take on Montpellier HSC. The club has very little transfer funds to make a splash in the transfer merket so it will likely be a quiet rest of the summer for the French side.

Here is a preview and expected order of finish for Ligue 1 in 2018-19. The top three finishers secure Champions League spots, and fourth place secures a Euro League spot. The top two finishers advance directly to group play in the Champions League, while the third place finisher enters the playoff round. The winners of the Coupe de Ligue and Coupe Nationale also receive Euro League spots. If either of those are won by a team with a Champions League spot, the next highest finisher in Ligue 1 will get the Euro League position. (Note: FIFA 16 gives Euro League spots to the fourth and fifth place teams)

The bottom three clubs are relegated to Ligue 2. (Edit: the game only relegates the bottom two teams and promotes the top two teams from Ligue 2. This is obviously wrong, although IRL, it did happen in 2015-16, but just for one season)

                            1. Paris-Saint Germain
                            2. AS Monaco

Montpellier, France (AP) - The official debut for Lothar Matthaus as manager of Caen ended in a scoreless draw in Southern France as Caen and Montpellier could not find the back of the net on Saturday evening. The scoreless draw may be a preview of these two club's campaigns as both are pegged for a mid-table finish in 2018-19.

The story of this one was excellent play from Caen keeper Remy Vercoutre, who said before the start of the season that this would be his final year as a professional. He stopped all four Montpellier shots that found the target, including two great saves on Rodrigo Mora. One came in the 13th minute, when Vercoutre tipped the ball just wide. The second came in the 51st minute as Mora blasted one that Vercoutre got his leg on to deflect wide. Vercoutre was named the Man of the Match.

Caen had a few opportunities of their own. Andy Delort knocked one off of the crossbar in the opening moments of the match. Jonathan Beaulieu then had a great opportunity in the 58th minute, running onto a long pass from Kenny Vermeer. But his shot sailed just over the bar.

Up next for Caen is their home opener against recently promoted FC Sochaux. They dropped their opener to Stade de Reims by a score of 2-1.
