Nice, France (AP) - SM Caen saw their unbeaten streak come to an end as they dropped a thrilling 4-3 decision to OGC Nice at Allianz Riviera on Saturday evening. Caen overcame a two goal deficit to level the match before halftime, but could not rally late to drop their first match in seven outings.
Nice went in front just four minutes in as Hatem Ben Arfa headed home a rebound off a Michael Le Bihan shot off of the post. Michael Le Bihan put a shot on Remy Vercoutre in the 24th minute that he stopped, but the rebound bounced to Ben Arfa who headed it over to Jean Michel Seri, who volleyed it home to make it 2-nil.
Late in the half, Caen would break through. Jacsson Antonio Domingues Piazon sent a corner in that defender Syam Ben Youssef got a head on that sailed past keeper Mouez Hassen. Just four minutes later, Jeff Louis knocked a ball off the post and Herve Bazile headed home the rebound to level the match.
Just four minutes after the half, Nice went back in front. Mickael Le Bihan one-timed a pass from Mahamane Traore to put Nice up 3-2.
Kenny Vermeer came close to equalizing again, but his shot from the top of the six yard box, hit the post and stayed out in the 75th minute.
Alessane Plea stole the ball from Syam Ben Youssef in the 82nd minute, then popped it over the head of Remy Vercoutre and into the empty net to put Nice up by two.
That set up the wild ending. Kenny Vermeer got tripped in the Nice box in the 90th minute, setting up an Andy Delort penalty that he converted. Delort then had a gtreat chance to euqalize just moments later, but he was taken out, in the box by Nice defender Hatem Ben Aref. The referee saw no foul, although Delort lay on the ground in agony. Jonathan Beaulieu then took the discipline in his own hands and hammered Ben Aref from behind, drawing an immediate red card.
Andy Delort was seriously injured on the tackle and broke his ankle. He will likely miss at least 8 weeks. Jacsson Antonio Domingues Piazon left the match in the second half after another rough tackle and sprained an ankle. He will miss at least a month.
Up next for Caen (6-3-5) is a home match with AS Saint-Etienne (7-4-3) next Saturday.
