Character Rundown: Randy Orton

Smackdown Live is the home of the Viper, The Apex Predator, Randy Orton. Since his debut in 2002, Randy Orton has beaten just about everyone there is to beat, and accomplished just about everything there is to accomplish. It's no surprise however, considering Orton is the son of Cowboy Bob Orton, and the grandson of Bob Orton Sr.

Randy is a 13 time world champion in the WWE, last holding the WWE title in 2017 when he beat Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania 33. Since then Orton has held the United States championship. Currently, Orton is without gold, but he has a new attitude. We've seen a return to a more ruthless mean streak for Orton after a long babyface run that many people saw as not being his best work. The character of Randy Orton is one that seems to get some kind of pleasure in hurting people, whether it's his punt kick that put dozens of people on the shelf years ago, or his viscous attacks on Jeff Hardy recently. The question for Orton becomes, what is there left for him to do in the WWE?

Character Rundown: Finn Balor

Finn Balor was one of the most surefire bets in recent memory in terms of future stars in the WWE. It appeared he was going to live up to that potential when he became the face of NXT soon after debuting, and became the first ever Universal Champion in his first WWE PPV match. It was in that same match however that Finn was injured, and had to relinquish the belt. Since then, Finn has found himself lost in the shuffle, and sometimes outright forgotten or thrown in throwaway feuds with the likes of Bray Wyatt or Baron Corbin.

It's not too late for Finn to turn things around however. He has a strong fanbase, loads of skill, and of course his ace in the hole, The Demon! The Demon is Finns alter ego that only comes out when he needs it, and it's rare to see The Demon lose a match. Perhaps The Demon is the key to future success for Balor?

Character Rundown: Cedric Alexander

Cedric Alexander won over the WWE fans in the Cruiserweight classic, where after being eliminated, the crowd chanted "please sign Cedric" until Triple H came out and acknowledged the chants.

Since then Cedric has lived up to the potential. He's coming off a lengthy reign with the Cruiserweight Championship in which he went unpinned for an entire year! The reign was just ended by Buddy Murphy at Super Showdown, but it showed the immense potential Alexander contains. The sky is the limit for this young star.

Age: 29

Current Status: Top 205 Live star

Yup it did, glad you like the concept. I've got some cool ideas lined up on how to make this a really creative engaging story mode of sorts.

October 2018, Week 1

Hot off the heels of WWE Super Showdown, a major ppv in which Finn Balor did not compete, Monday Night Raw will broadcast live from The TD Garden arena in Boston Massachusetts.

3:00 PM

Finn arrives to the the TD Gardens arena in Boston. It's 3pm, 5 hours to show time. Finn still has no idea what he's doing on the show. He heads to catering, gets himself something to eat, and has a chat with some other stars backstage, the usual routine.

4:00 PM

An hour later, he runs into the COO Triple H backstage.

HHH: Hows it going Finn. I got the rundown for tonight right here.

Balor: I'm teaming with Bayley to promote the mixed match challenge aren't I?

HHH: No we've got something else we want you to do tonight that we're pretty excited about.

Finn: Oh?

Finn is intrigued, finally some direction.

HHH: You're gonna be facing Goldust! You guys had a little rivalry teased a while back that we wanna revisit. Try to put on a show and hopefully it gets something going between you two. I gotta run, good luck out there.

INNER MONOLOGUE: So that's their idea that they're excited about? They want me to start a program with Goldust? Probably Baron Corbin's idea. No disrespect to him, but he's a veteran past his point of relevancy. The last thing I need is another program in the low card. I have to prove I'm above this!

GOAL SET: Pin Goldust in less than 5 minutes to avoid starting a rivalry.

9:15 PM

An hour and 15 minutes into the show, a camera catches Finn backstage talking to Bayley about the mixed match challenge. They exclaim that their team is like Batman and Robin, and they're both Batman!

Goldust walks into the frame and gets in Balor's face. Bayley walks off.

Goldust: So I heard we have a match tonight... I suggest you worry less about the mixed match challenge, and more about me.

Balor: With all due respect Goldust, I'm not worried about you. If you remember what happened last time you tried to pick a fight with me last year, I pinned you right in the middle of the ring, and it was over. That's exactly what's gonna happen tonight.

Finn gives Goldust a cheeky smirk.

Goldust: I can GUARANTEE that isn't gonna happen tonight my friend. I've got a new production coming up, and a foolproof plan to make you the first tragic victim.

Goldust does his signature breathing lunge towards Finn, but Finn doesn't flinch. Goldust walks off.

9:45 PM

One on one normal match
Finn Balor vs. Goldust

Balor makes his entrance first to his usual above average fanfare. Goldust gets a decent reaction, a mix of cheers and boos.

The two men lock up to start. Goldust gets Balor in a headlock as the "Finn, Finn, Finn" chants start. Goldust backs Finn against the ropes and sends him running across the ring. Finn bounces off the ropes into an atomic drop from Goldust. Pinfall, Finn kicks out at 1.

Goldust goes to pick up Finn by the head, but Finn lands some body shots followed by a dropkick. Goldust goes stumbling against the ropes, and Balor clotheslines him over the top rope down to the floor by the announcers table. Balor runs the ropes and comes back for a huge dive to the outside! The crowd pops for the dive.

Balor sends Goldust back into the ring. He goes to enter after him and Goldust jumps him as soon as he goes to enter. Goldust goes to irish whip Balor into the corner, but Balor reverses and sends Goldust into the corner instead. Balor hits the shotgun dropkick! Goldust falls right into the landing zone! Balor up top, but Goldust slowly crawls away before Balor can hit the stomp.

Balor comes down off the top and picks up Goldust, LOW BLOW! Goldust with a blatant low blow right in front of the ref.

The ref waives the match off. A frustrated Goldust walks off leaving Finn in the ring writhing in pain.

GOAL FAILED: Pin Goldust in less than 5 minutes to avoid starting a rivalry.

10:00 PM

Backstage Balor is getting iced after his match.

INNER MONOLOGUE: Dammnit! That bastard is just as desperate as I thought he was. I need to get a rematch against him next week to end this before it can go any further.

GOAL SET: Get a rematch with Goldust next week

Smackdown will broadcast live from Indianapolis. In the main event, Daniel Bryan will go one on one with Samoa Joe, and to open the show it's Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair for the Smackdown Women's championship

6:00 PM

Ortons private bus arrives at the arena. Being a 16 year veteran he has leeway in terms of arrival time. He will be facing Tye Dillinger tonight, someone who Orton has had a bit of a rivalry with over the past few weeks. This however is not what Orton wants to be doing, especially coming off of a win over Jeff Hardy in a brutal Hell in a Cell match.

GOAL SET: Beat and injure Tye Dillinger in tonights match.

GOAL 2 SET: Get Paige to book a future title opportunity

8:45 PM

A split screen shows both Orton and Dillinger stretching while walking down the hallway, their match is coming up next.

8:49 PM

One on one normal match
Randy Orton vs. Tye Dillinger

Orton makes his entrance first to a mix of cheers and boos. Tye is next and he gets a decent face reaction.

As Tye is making his "10" hand gesture to the crowd, Orton runs up behind him and blindsides him. The match starts with Orton getting the advantage with the blindside attack.

Orton stomps Dillinger repeatedly. He picks him up and Irish whips him hard into the turnbuckle. He then goes to irish whip him over the top rope, but Dillinger turns it around and sends Orton flying over the top. Orton holds on to the apron, but Dillinger runs and hits him with a forearm. Orton hits the apron hard and falls to the floor.

Dillinger does a cartwheel in the ring which gets Orton mad. Orton runs into the ring and goes for a clothesline, but Dillinger ducks, Dillinger turn around right into a dropkick by Orton! Orton gets Dillinger in a rest hold headlock and talks trash while he wrenches on Dillingers head.

The crowd wills Dillinger on and he's able to elbow out of the headlock. Orton however hits a big right hand and knocks Tye right back down. Orton hits his vintage calculated stomps on Dillinger.

Tye starts to mount a comeback sequence. He goes for the Tye Breaker, but Orton elbows out of it. RKO- NO, Tye pushes Orton off towards the corner. Orton rakes the eye of Dillinger while the refs view is obstructed. RKO! 1-2-3!

The ref goes to raise Orton hand after the victory, but Orton pulls his hand away.

INNER MONOLOGUE: I need to make sure I'm passed this rivalry once and for all... I need to do something that will end this.

Orton grabs a steel chair and places Dillingers leg in it. He contemplates for a moment as the ref tries to get him to stop, but there's no reasoning with Randy Orton. Orton stomps on the chair, possibly causing serious injury to Dillinger.

---commercial break---

GOAL MET: Beat and injure Tye Dillinger in tonights match.

9:05 PM

Orton is walking down the hallway when she is approached by a frantic Smackdown Live GM Paige

Paige: Are you kidding me Randy? What in the world has gotten into you.

Orton is stoic, he doesn't give Paige an answer.

Paige: RANDY! Hello?!

Orton: Listen to me, and listen clearly. I don't care how pretty you are, or how... provocative you dress. I sure as hell don't care that you're the GM. I'm not subordinate to you.

Orton begins to raise his voice

Orton: Stuff like what you JUST SAW is gonna keep happening if I don't like the way I'm being utilized, or if I don't like the way someone looks at me, or if I don't like the way someone talks to me. You're not gonna be able to stop it, but how you control it is to give me the opportunities I rightfully deserve.

Paige: This has nothing to do with you being subordinate to me. You know I can't have you running around injuring our talents. What you did to Jeff Hardy at Hell in a Cell was disgusting, and so was what you did tonight.

Orton: So what are you gonna do ab-

Paige: Do about it? Well you can earn the opportunities you seem to be seeking out just like everyone else, so next week you'll face someone who is just as disgusted with your behavior as of late, especially in regards to a friend of his in Jeff Hardy. Next week you'll go one on one with THE BIG SHOW!

Orton takes a deep breath

Orton: Whatever happens to The Big Show next week is on your hands.

Orton walks off

GOAL 2 FAILED: Get Paige to book a future title opportunity

INNER MONOLOGUE: It doesn't matter how long you've been around the game, sometimes you end up exactly where you don't want to be... I'm used to it. When it happens I just get more viscous, more vile, more venomous. Next week I'm gonna destroy The Big Show handily, and get myself back on the right track.

GOAL SET: Defeat The Big Show next week

205 Live is live right after Smackdown. Rumors are going off about it moving to before NXT, but for now it's staying right here.

6:00 PM

Cedric Alexander is in the training room. At Super Showdown he lost for the first time in a year, and it wasn't just any loss... he lost his Cruiserweight Championship to Buddy Murphy. Tonight, he invokes his rematch clause.

GOAL SET: Win the Cruiserweight Championship off of Buddy Murphy

9:30 PM

Cedric Alexander appears on screen on Smackdown Live promoting his match against Buddy Murphy

10:00 PM

205 Live begins. Cedric Alexander is backstage with his headphones on when he's approached by the new Cruiserweight champion, Buddy Murphy. Cedric removes his headphones.

Murphy Well well well... You look... different... lighter somehow. You lose some weight? OH that's right, you did.

Murphy holds up the cruiserweight championship

Alexander: Murphy, I give you all the credit in the world. We put on a hell of a show, and you put me down for the first time in a year. Like I said, I give you credit, you we're damn good.

Murphy: Your first loss in a year right... Maybe it was just a fluke then. A result of probability. Or maybe not. Maybe you just met someone who's better than you.

Murphy walks off leaving Cedric with that to think about as the opening of 205 Live plays.

10:20 PM

TJP is beating down Mustafa Ali after a suffering a loss to him. Cedric doesn't want to risk hurting himself before his title match.

INNER MONOLOGUE: Son of a... I gotta do the right thing here. would I expect from him if the roles were reversed.

Alexander runs down to the ring and starts throwing punches sending TJP back against the ropes. He goes for a clothesline that sends both him and TJP flying over the top. Alexander lands on his feet but seems to tweak his right ankle a bit. He re-enters the ring to go help Mustafa Ali up. Ali thanks Alexander, but it's clear there may be something wrong with Alexanders ankle.

10:25 PM

Alexander is getting his ankle taped up by the trainer. He is with Mustafa Ali.

Ali: Dude you've got to be kidding me, you didn't have to do that before your title match.

Alexander: Don't worry about it man.

Ali: I appreciate it bro, but you didn't have to put it on the line like that. I would have understood.

Alexander: It's just a little tweaked man. I said don't worry about it.

Ali: Yeah.. you're right. And I know you're gonna go out there and beat Murphy. Good luck, and thanks again.

A producer pops his head in at the door

Producer: Cedric, you're up next

10:35 PM

One on one match - Cruiserweight Championship - Cedric Alexander vs. Buddy Murphy ©

Cedric comes down to the ring first. He has a slight limp in his step, but he's trying hard to hide it. Murphy is next and he flaunts his new title the whole way down

The match begins with both men stepping to the middle of the ring and sharing words. Murphy slaps Cedric and it's on! Both men start trading punches. Murphy gets the upper hand backing Cedric against the ropes. He charges up and clotheslines Cedric right over the top rope and down to the floor. Cedric lands on the ground and sells his ankle.

Murphy taunts as Cedric re-enters. They lock up again and Cedric gets the upper hand. He takes Murphy down and gets him in a headlock. He wrenches it a couple times then lets go. Back standing, Murphy goes for a clothesline, but Cedric ducks and answers with a enziguri. Murphy is rocked.

Cedric irish whips Murphy into the corner. He runs at him and throws his body against him for a corner cross body. Alexanders momentum takes him to the apron where he goes for a springboard clothesline, but Murphy swats him out of the air and Alexander crashes hard. Near fall for Murphy.

Murphy has caught on to Alexanders tweaked ankle, and he starts to take advantage. He works over the ankle at every opportunity. Alexander is in trouble.

Alexander starts to get his second win and mount a comeback. He hits a flurry of offense on Murphy, then picks him up for the Lumbar Check, but Murphy uses the momentum to backflip out of it. He irish whips Alexander to the ropes and Alexander leaps over onto the apron. He goes again for a springboard clothesline, but this time Murphy moves and Alexander lands feet first on the bad ankle.

Murphy turns Alexander around and hits Murphy's Law. 1-2-3.

GOAL FAILED: Win the Cruiserweight Championship off of Buddy Murphy

Cedric sits in the ring gripping his ankle as Murphy holds the championship up high. No doubt it was a great matchup, and both men brought their A-game. The question becomes, what would have happened if Cedric's ankle wasn't hurt earlier in the night.

11:00 PM

Alexander walks nimbly up the ramp and to the back where Drake Maverick is lined up along with multiple 205 live stars and producers, all applauding him for a great main event.

Maverick: Wonderful job Cedric, an amazing match.

Alexander gives a quick nod of acknowledgement and continues on to the locker room where he gets changed and leaves the arena before any one else can get a word with him. He's not in the mood for talking

11:40 PM

Alexander is in the driving his car down a dark road traveling back to his hotel.

INNER MONOLOGUE: Sometimes you do the right thing and it ends up costing you. I can't let it bother me. I can't let it change me. I'm gonna work hard and get back to the top, just like how I did it the first time around. No one said this would be easy.

GOAL SET: Win your match next week and begin working towards another cruiserweight championship match.

WEEK 1 REVIEW

After finding out he had a match against Goldust, Finn set out the goal of pinning The Bizarre one in less than 5 minutes to prove he was above this kind of lowcard match. Alas, Goldust had different plans in mind as he low blowed Balor, ending the match by DQ. Finn will have to try again next week as he looks to move up in the Raw match card.

Goal status: 1 goal failed

Current goal: Defeat Goldust next week

Mood: Frustrated

Orton didn't just want to defeat Tye Dillinger in their match on Smackdown Live, he wanted to hurt him to make sure he was out of his hair for good. That's exactly what he did as he placed Dillinger's leg in a steel chair and stomped on it. General Manager Paige expressed her disgust with the attack, and instead of giving Orton the future title opportunity he set out to get, she gave him a match with The Big Show next week.

Goal status: 1 goal passed, 1 goal failed.

Current goal: Defeat Big Show next week

Mood: Angry

Cedric lost his Cruiserweight title to Buddy Murphy at Super Showdown in Australia. He cashed in his rematch clause for the very next episode of 205 Live. It was his decision to save Mustafa Ali from an attack at the hands of TJP that may have ended up costing him the title as he tweaked his ankle in the process, and Murphy was able to take advantage later in the night to retain the belt. Cedric showed some frustration with the circumstance, but seems to have found inner peace and motivation.

Goal status: 1 goal failed.

Current goal: Work back up to cruiserweight title contention

Mood: Determined
