Poznan, Poland (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen cruised to an easy 3-nil victory over Warta Poznan on Thursday evening in snowy Poznan. Kerem Demirbay was dominating in this one, scoring once and assisting on the other two goals and generally making life miserable for the home side as Leverkusen punched it's ticket into th eknockout round of the Europa League with two group matches still remaining.

It was Eduardo Camavinga in the sixth minute that got this one off on th eright foot for Leverkusen. He took a pass from Demirbay, then dribbled past his defender at the top of the box and unleashed a deadly left footed strike to make it 1-nil.

In the 31st minute it was Kerem Demirbay down the center of the park on the counter attack and he slipped it past Adrian Lis, who had no chance to stop it, to make it 2-nil.

Sebastiano Esposito put a cap on it in the 48th minute, taking a pass from Demirbay following a Warta Poznan turnover, and easily beating Lis to make it 3-nil.

Paulinho would have three excellent chances to add to the score line but hit the crossbar on one, the woodwork on the next and wide on the third.

Leverkusen outshot Warta Poznan 13-8 and held possession for 56% of the match. The home side never really made life tough for Lukas Hradacky as he recorded his third clean sheet in four Europa League matches.

Bayer returns to Bundesliga action on Sunday at Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen as they take on Schalke 04.

Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - Sunday afternoon it was the Charles Aranguiz show as he was spectacular in Bayer Leverkusen's 3-1 victory over Schalke 04 at the Veltins Arena. Aranguiz scored twice and assisted on the other goal as Leverkusen snapped a 316 minute scoreless streak in Bundesliga play.

Leverkusen (6-1-4, 19 pts) came out and really took the play to Schalke early on. Moussa Diaby brought the ball in from the left side and as the centerback moved towards him, he sent a perfect pass into Charles Aranguiz and he made no mistake hitting a left footer between two defenders and into the top right corner to put Leverkusen up 1-nil.

In the 30th minute, Aranguiz passed to Dani Olmo at the top of the box. He ripped one between the legs of keeper Fredrick Ronnow to make it 2-nil. Nine minutes later Olmo returned the favor, leaving a ball for a trailing Charles Aranguiz and he blasted it into the lower left corner to make it 3-nil.

Schalke would finally have an answer in the 66th minute. Goncalo Paciencia had the ball in midfield, turned and sent a through ball onto Nadiem Amiri. He dribbled to the top of the box and unleashed a howitzer into the top right corner to get Schalke on the scoreboard. The Royal Blues then turned up the heat for about ten minutes, putting some pressure on Leverkusen with Lukas Hradacky having to make a few saves, but they could not find another answer.

FC Schalke 04 fell to (3-1-7, 10 pts) and now sits in 14th place in the Bundesliga, just three points ahead of the relegation playoff position. Leverkusen moved to within one point of sixth place 1899 Hoffenheim. They return home a week from Saturday to face 1. FSV Mainz 05 (3-1-7, 10 pts).

Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - 1. FSV Mainz 05 waited until the dying moments of the match to pull out a stunner as Khama Billiat scored in the 90th minute to send Mainz on to a 2-1 victory over Leverkusen at BayArena on Saturday evening. Playing a short corner near the center of the box, Billiat controlled the ball, turned, dribbled once then unleashed a left footed cracker into the far right side of the goal to steal two points for Mainz.

This was a match with a ton of scoring chances for both sides. Levin Oztunali opened the scoring in the 37th minute as he beat Lukas Hradacky on the short side after getting past his marker Dani Olm.

Leverkusen would get the equalizer early in the second half. This time Dani Olmo hit Patrik Schick at the top of the box. Schick sent a perfect through ball past the defender and Kerem Bellarabi ripped it into the side netting to level the match at 1-1.

It appeared as though both teams would leave with a point until Billiat's heroics in the dying moments of the match. Mainz outshot Leverkusen 14-10even though Leverkusen held a possession advantage.

Mainz midfielder Jean-Paul Boetius was your Man of the Match. He had an assist on the game winner.

Leverkusen (6-1-5, 19 pts) currently sit in 8th plave in the BUndeslia with Mainz (4-1-7, 13 pts) improving to 10th position. Leverkusen returns to Europa League action on Thursday as they will travel to Scotland to take on Hamilton Academical in a match with little meaning to Leverkusen.

Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen cruised to a 3-1 victory over Hamilton Academical on Thursday evening on Matchday Five of the UEFA Europa League. 17-year-old Emrehan Gedikli score a hat trick, all in the first half, as Leverkusen built a 3-nil cushion heading into the break.

Hamilton Academical was better after halftime, creating a few decent scoring chances and finally capitalizing on one in the 79th minute. Aaron Martin rose up and headed home a ball on a corner kick to get Hamilton on the score sheet.

The Hamilton loss combined with a Sivasspor victory locked up second place for Sivasspor and officially eliminated Hamilton Academical with one matchday remaining.

Bayer Leverkusen fielded a very young side and had their way with Hamilton. It is likely the same side that will face Sivasspor in a relatively meaningless final Group Stage match.

Leverkusen remains perfect in Group J sitting at (5-0-0) and they will host Sivasspor (4-0-1) in the finale of Group J at BayArena on December 10.

Bayer has a big match on Sunday as they will travel to Leipzig to take on second place RB Leipzig in a return to Bundesliga action.

Leipzig, Saxony (AP) - In what may be one of the upsets of the year in the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen stunned RB Leipzig 6-1 at Red Bull Arena on Sunday afternoon. Four second half goals from Moussa Diaby paced Leverkusen to the remarkable victory.

Leipzig came into the match at (10-1-1, 31 pts) on the season and had allowed only six goals all season.

Leverkusen has played well in the Europa League, albeit against weaker competition, but has struggled this year in the Bundesliga, playing below expectations. But maybe that all changed on Sunday.

This one started out with Leipzig pressing high and looking every bit the team that was going to challenge Bayern in the Bundesliga this year. They had constant pressure and great scoring chances from the start. But just eight minutes in, maybe a preview of what was to come. Leverkusen broke on a counterattack and Moussa Diaby got a nice long pass out to Dani Olmo, who sent a through ball that Patrik Schick ran onto and booted past Peter Gulacsi to make it 1-nil Leverkusen and stunned the crowd.

Minutes later Leipzig would get the equalizer that it so rightly deserved as Hwang Lee Chan jumped over a tackle from Charles Aranguiz in the box and fed a beautiful ball over to Yussef Poulsen and he made no mistakes in leveling the match.

Leipzig kept the pressure on but Lukas Hradacky was up to the task today, stopping 14 Leipzig shots on target. The home team managed 20 shots in the match.

In the 26th minute, another Leverkusen counter attack found Patrik Schick sending Dani Olmo in all alone and the former Leipzig midfielder made sure he finished against his former teammates to put Leverkusen shockingly up 2-1.

Leipzig appeared to level it again in the 37th minute as Poulsen beat Hradacky, but he was ruled offside.

Leverkusen led 2-1 at the break despite being thoroughly dominated in shots and possession. Their entire game was the counterattack and it had them in front at the break.

Marcel Sabitzer thought that he tied it early in the second half as he pulled up at the top of the box and curved a beauty past Hradacky but the shot hit the woodwork and stayed out.

From that point on it was the Moussa Diaby show. He would score four goals in 17 minutes all on the counterattack as Leipzig pressed to get back into the game.

The offensive numbers for Leverkusen were stunning. Diaby had the four goals. Dani Olmo scored and had an assist. Patrik Schick also had a goal and two assists. Kerem Ballarabi had two assists.

The win moved Leverkusen (7-1-5, 22 pts) up into seventh place, just three points back of Eintracht Frankfurt for the final Europa League spot. Leipzig fell for just the second time all season and dropped to (10-1-2, 31 pts) but more importantly now trail FC Bayern by six points.

The six goals scored by Leverkusen tied a season high in the Bundesliga this season, previously accomplished by RB Leipzig against Schalke 04 in a 6-0 victory.

Leverkusen now returns to DFB-Pokal action on Wednesday as they host Eintracht Frankfurt in third round action. Leipzig will travel to face 1. FC Heidenheim.

Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen advance into the Quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal after a dominating 4-nil victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday evening at BayArena. Patrik Schick score three goals to help lead a suddenly red-hot Leverkusen.

Just three days after scoreing six in Leipzig, Leverkusen once again faced a team that liked to press. Once again, Leverkusen made them pay with a lethal counterattack. Withstanding copious amounts of pressure at times, Leverkusen held up defensively and struck when they had the chance.

In the 13th minute it was a beautiful cross in from Kerem Bellarabi into Dani Olmo. His shot was saved by K. Trapp, but the rebound was passed over to Patrik Schick left unmarked at the mouth of the goal for an easy layup.

In the 22nd minute, Dani Olmo crossed a ball in and Eduardo Camavinga volleyed it into the net in one of the best looking goals of the season to make it 2-nil. Olmo would later suffer a shoulder injury and had to be replaced in the match.

Shortly after halftime, it was another Leverkusen counterattack and this time it was Dwight McNeil with the pass into Schick. His initial shot was blocked by Trapp, but the rebound bounced right back to Schick and he blasted it home to make it 3-nil. Leverkusen would cap the scoring just ten minutes later as Camavinga found Schick again and he one timed it past an exasperated Trapp to make it 4-nil.

This was an all-around team effort and I think the experience of just having played Leipzig with their high pressure prepared them for Frankfurt. Leverkusen dropped a 1-nil decision a few weeks back in Frankfurt, but tonight was different. Lukas Hradacky made a couple of key saves and the counterattack was deadly.

Leverkusen returns to Bundesliga action on Saturday as they host Borussia Dortmund in a big match with a spot in the top six on the line.

Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - If Bayer Leverkusen was feeling good about a run of good form as of late, that came crashing down to earth on Saturday afternoon at the BayArena as Borussia Dortmund laid the hammer down in a 5-nil defeat of the home side. Erling Haaland scored twice, including from the penalty spot in the ninth minute as Leverkusen continues to hang just outside a European spot as the season nears the midway point.

Dortmund (8-4-2, 28 pts) looked like a team ready to return to a Champions League spot in the Bundesliga as they just dominated this one from the start. They would outshoot Leverkusen 18-5 including 15-1 in shots on target and held the ball for almost 65% of possession.

Dani Olmo ran into Hakan Calhanoglu in the area in the 8th minute and drew a penalty. The controversial call allowed Dortmund to take the lead on Erling Haaland's goal. Thorgan Hazard then made it 2-nil in the 33rd minute on a pass from Emre Can.

Dortmund would dominated possession in the secon dhalf and would add three late goals to make the final 5-nil. Two of them came after Kerem Demirbay was red-carded in the 84th minute for tackle on Thorgan Hazard.

This loss rivaled an earlier defeat at the hands of Arminia Bielefeld for worst of the campaign.

Leverkusen hosts Sivasspor on Thursday in their final group stage match of the Europa League. The team has already wrapped up the top spot in Group J and will likely field a youthful side. They return to Bundesliga action next Sunday as they travel to take on VfL Wolfsburg.

Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - It was not the result that Leverkusen fans were hoping for on Thursday evening as Sivasspor came into BayArena and left with full points in a surprising 3-2 victory. Robin Yacin clinched it in the 86th minute as he beat Lennart Grill to put the victors up 3-1.

Leverkusen would get one back in the 90th minute as Yusef Demir scored and they had a glorious opportunity to level the match in the final moments of injury time, but Demir's shot glanced just off the right post.

Leverkusen dominated possession in this one yet trailed 2-nil at the break thanks to two late Sivasspor goals just before the half. Faycal Fajr scored in the 43rd minute and then Arouna Kone scored in the dying moments of injury time.

Eduardo Camvinga came on as a substitute in the 58th minute and immediately scored to cut the lead to 2-1. He was a force out there over the final half hour, but he could not find the back of the net again, missing two or three glorious chances.

Despite the loss, Leverkusen still finished atop Group J in the 2020-21 UEFA Europa League at (5-0-1, 15 pts), the same record as Sivasspor. Leverkusen took the top spot with a goal differential of +13, while Sivassspor was only at +6.

The draw for the Round of 32 is tomorrow. Leverkusen returns to Bundesliga action on Sunday at Wolfsburg.
