Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen stopped the bleeding on Sunday afternoon as they went on the road and managed to secure an away point at Wolfsburg. Leverkusen put forth a nice effort but could not find a way to find all three points against a Wolfsburg team that sits in fourth place in the Bundesliga.

Julian Draxler put Wolfsburg in front in the 13th minute despite the run of play. Leverkusen was dominating the opening of the match but Wolfsburg came down and scored on their first chance of the match as Draxler put home his own rebound.

Leverkusen would find an equalizer just nine minutes later as Karim Bellarabi made a run and Patrik Schick fed him a perfect pass and he did not miss, beating Koen Casteels easily.

Eduardo Camvinga should have put Leverkusen ahead in the 34th minute as he spun his defender around in the box and unleashed a left footed rocket that hit the underside of the bar and somehow stayed out. Moussa Diaby got behind the Wolfsburg defense in the 36th minute but his shot sailed just wide of the left post. Patrik Schick would miss from the top of the six in the 45th minute and the teams went to halftime tied at 1-1.

Xaver Schlager had a chance to win it for Wolfsburg late but his header sailed just wide in the 84th minute. Lukas Hradacky then made a big save on Wout Weghorst in injury time to preserve the point.

Dani Olmo suffered a toe injury in the match and will be sidelined 8-12 weeks.

Leverkusen improved to (7-2-6, 23 pts) with two matches remaining before the winter break. Wolfsburg (10-3-2, 33 pts) remains in the final Champions League spot, ten points clear of Leverkusen. Leverkusen will host SC Freiburg in a mid-week match on Wednesday at BayArena.

Young star Eduardo Camavinga scored twice, his first two Bundesliga goals, and the 17-year-old was the best man on the pitch in the victory.

Camavinga got Leverkusen on the board in the 39th minute as he worked a nice give and go with Patrik Schick. Schick had missed a couple of great opportunities earlier, but set up Camavinga.

The youngster would make it 2-nil just after halftime with a rocket into the top right corner in the 49th minute.

Vincenzo Grifo would get SC Freiburg back into the match as he dribbled past two defenders in the box and slipped it past Lukas Hradacky in the 56th minute.

But Eduardo Camavinga showed his class again just six minutes later as he sent a perfect pass in to Karim Bellarabi and he beat the keeper to make it 3-1 as Leverkusen was able to cruise to the victory.

Berlin (AP) - Hertha Berlin dominated their match against Leverkusen to close out the first half of the 2020-21 Bundesliga as they cruised to a 2-nil victory at Olympiastadion in Berlin. Matheus Cunha was a force all afternoon, scoring once and just missing several other attempts.

Cunha got Berlin on the board in the 35th minute after Rafael Santos Borre dribbled into the box and drew a defender, passing to an open Cunha. He took one touch then ripped it into the top right corner.

Hertha Berlin had a chance to go up by two in the 44th minute when Jonathan Tah ran into Borre in the box. Borre went down and was awarded a penalty, but Matheus Cunha tried chipping it in and it landed on top of the goal to keep it 1-nil heading into halftime.

But early in the second half Maximilian Mittlestadt sent a long ball from his own penalty area across midfield and right onto Michael Olunga, who had gotten behind the Leverkusen defense. He dribbled in and easily beat Lukas Hradacky to make it 2-nil.

From that point one, Hertha Berlin dominated play and kept their shape defensively allowing almost no chances.

Berlin would outshoot Leverkusen 18-5 despite Leverkusen holding a sizable possession advantage. Afterwards, Manage Ninja had this to say, "We looked tired today. It has been a rough first half of the season and we have already played 30 matches with cups and Europa League. Hopefully we use this month to recharge and claim a spot in the top six in May."

Leverkusen finished the first half of the campaign at (8-2-7, 26 pts) in 8th position and finds themselves five points back of sixth. With the win, Hertha Berlin improved to (5-3-9, 18 pts) and sits in 11th position. The team will have off for teh winter break, returning to action on January 23rd when they will host Eintracht Frankfurt.

Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen had expectations coming into the 2020-21 campaign and those expectations are not being met. On Saturday afternoon they returned to Bundesliga action after the winter break and were thrashed 4-2 by Eintracht Frankfurt. Daichi Kamada scored twice to lead the visitors to the double over Leverkusen.

Kamada scored in the 16th minute on a pretty tic-tac-toe passing that got Kamada free in the box and he did not miss. Danny de Costa would make it 2-nil just 11 minutes later beating Lukas Hradacky to the short side.

Leverkusen got some hope back just before the half as Eduardo Camavinga scored to cut the lead in half heading into the intermission.

But coming out of the break, the referee made two harsh decisions that affected the outcome of this one. He gave Wendall a second yellow card for a very questionable tackle in the penalty area. That sent Wendall off and allowed Andre Silva to convert the penalty to make it 3-1.

Karim Bellarabi would get one back in the 60th minute on a pretty feed from Eduardo Camavinga, but once again, Leverkusen could not stop Frankfurt. Just six minutes later, Kamada put this one away with his brace. He split Lars Bender and Jonathan Tah and easily beat Lukas Hradacky to put Frankfurt back up 4-2. Leverkusen would have no further answers as they fell to (8-2-8, 26 pts).

Daichi Kamada was the Man of the Match with his two goals and he also added an assist in the victory. The win boasted Frankfurt to (11-2-5, 35 pts). They sit in fifth position, one point clear of Dortmund.

After the match Atletico Madrid recalled Santiago Arias from his loan with Leverkusen mainly due to what they felt was a lack of playing time.

Berlin (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen bounced back from back-to-back Bundesliga loses to complete the double over Union Berlin on Sunday evening with a 5-1 away victory. Patrik Schick was the star in this one, scoring twice and assisting on the other three goals in the rout.

All six goals in this match were scored in the opening 35 minutes. Patrik Schick and Karim Bellarabi scored in the seventh and 13th minutes to put Leverkusen up 2-nil.

Anthony Ujah then ripped one past Lukas Hradacky in the 17th minute to give Union Berlin some life. But that was snuffed out in the 25th minute when youngster Eduardo Camavinga scored.

Schick and Camavinga then each scored again to put Leverkusen up 5-1 just 35 minutes in. They would put it on cruise control from there, working on possession and limiting Union Berlin's chances.

Leverkusen (9-2-8, 29 pts) would outshoot Union Berlin 14-11 and 7-4 in on target attempts. Possession advantage went to Leverkusen too, holding a 56-44 advantage.

Union Berlin (3-3-13, 12 pts) currently sits in 17th place, just three points clear of the bottom of the table and one point behind Armenia Bielefeld, who sits in the relegation playoff spot.

Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen overcame a goal in injury time that tied the match and then scored twice in extra time to advance in the DFB-Pokal as they ousted SV Sandhausen 3-1 in the quarterfinals. Eduardo Camavinga scored both goals in extra time to see Leverkusen through to the semifinals.

Florian Wirtz had a glorious chance to put Leverkusen up in the 21st minute but his shot glanced just off the outside of the left post. He would make amends in the 43rd minute as he did not miss. Julian Baumgartlinger set up Wirtz at the top of the box. He spun past his marker and stumbled them banger home the shot to put Leverkusen up 1-nil.

Leverkusen dominated the match allowing few quality chances, but one was all that SV Sandhausen would need and they got it in the third minute of injury time as Denis Linsmayer took the ball at the top of the box and it appeared as though as he shot, Lars Bender screened keeper Lukas Hradacky and the ball wound up in the net, stunning the crowd as BayArena.

But the Bundesliga side showed their quality in extra time, as substitute Eduardo Camavinga would score twice to see Leverkusen through. In the 99th minute he took a pass from Crysencio Summerville and beat Martin Fraisl to put Leverkusen ahead. Then in the 116th minute, Camavinga would seal it as Yusuf Demir would send him in with a nice pass and he hit a left footed cracker past Fraisl to make it 3-1.

Leverkusen would outshoot SV Sandhausen 14-12, but the quality of shots would lopsided in Leverkusen's favor. Julian Baumgartlinger was your Man of the Match, but the story was Eduardo Camavinga. His two goals gave him eight in the last five Leverkusen matches across all competitions and he is turning into a superstar.

Leverkusen returns to Bundesliga action on Friday evening as they host 1899 Hoffenheim at BayArena.

Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen played well enough to win on Saturday afternoon at Signal Iduna Park but they fell short, dropping a 2-nil decision to Borussia Dortmund. Two second half tallies proved to be the difference in a highly entertaining match.

Eduardo Camavinga had a chance to put Leverkusen up in the tenth minute, but his short missed just wide into the side netting. Had he converted, this may have been a different result. Luis Alberto had a couple of great chances in the opening half for Dortmund but could not find the answer.

Then in the 58th minute, Jadon Sancho chased a ball down along the goal line, passed it back to Axel Witsel, who one timed a pass to an unmarked Emre Can, who made no mistakes and Dortmund took a 1-nil lead. Then in the 79th minute Raphael Guerreiro dribbled into the box and made a perfect pass across the face of goal to Luis Alberto, who got behind his defender, and he one timed it into the top of the net to make it 2-nil and effectively put this one away.

Dortmund (13-4-4, 43 pts) outshot Leverkusen 13-6 but had only four shots on target to Leverkusen's three. They did enjoy a healthy 58% of possession though.

The loss drops Leverkusen to (10-2-9, 32 pts) as they continue to struggle to find a way into a European spot. It doesn't get much easier for Leverkusen as they will travel to Amsterdam on Thursday for their Round of 32 first leg with Ajax in the 2020-21 Europa League and then return home next Sunday to take on third place RB Leipzig (14-4-3, 46 pts).

Amsterdam (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen withstood a constant attacking Ajax side and emerged with a hard fought 3-2 victory in the opening leg of their Europa League Round of 32 matchup in Amsterdam on Thursday evening. Karim Bellarabi scored twice to help the German side to the advantage heading into their home tie next week.

Ajax came out and absolutely dominated the opening ten minutes, peppering Lukas Hradacky with shots but he was up to the task. Ajax had six shots and Hradacky made four saves before some fans had even gotten to their seats.

But it was Leverkusen that scored first on a counterattack as Patrick Schick slipped a perfect pass into Karim Bellarabi and he made no mistakes in beating Andre Onana and put Leverkusen up 1-nil.

Ajax would respond in the 31st minute as Antony was left alone in the box and he took advantage placing one in the top left corner to equalize the match.

But just three minutes later Mitchell Weiser sent a long pass that Karim Bellarabi ran onto and he hit one into the top left corner to beat Onana and put Leverkusen back in front 2-1 against the run of play. Ajax outshot Leverkusen 14-4 in the opening half with 10 shots on target but Lukas Hradacky came to play. Leverkusen seemed tentative against Ajax's press in the opening 45 minutes.

But after halftime Leverkusen adjusted and hung back then sprung the counterattack. That seemed to really open up Ajax on the back end allowing a few really good scoring chances. In the 58th minute with was Mitchell Weiser who would score on a nice pass from Moussa Diaby and Leverkusen extended the lead to 3-1.

It would remain that way until the 79th minute. Edmond Tapsoba made a clumsy tackle in teh box that resulted in a penalty. Quincy Promes stepped up and buried it to make it 3-2 and gave Ajax some hope heading into next weeks reverse fixture.

Ajax outshot Leverkusen 17-10 and 12-5 in chances on target while holding possession for 62% of the match. Lassina Traore was the Man of the Match for Ajax. He did not score but he had nine shots, including six on target.

Leverkusen returns to Bundesliga action on Sunday as they will host RB Leipzig, and then they will host Ajax next Thursday in the second leg of this Europa League Round of 32 matchup.
