Munich, Bavaria (AP) - Sunday afternoon was an absolute thriller at Allianz Arena as Bayern Munchen used some late match heroics to pull out a 2-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen to remain unblemished in the Bundesliga. Robert Muller split the Leverkusen defense and fired a missile into the lower left corner past a diving Lukas Hradacky in the 89th minute to send Allianz Arena into a frenzy.

Leverkusen really deserved better on the day. Moussa Diaby was spectacular for the visitors. He scored in the 12th minute, sent in on a great pass from Karim Bellrabi, and he beat Manuel Neuer to give Leverkusen the early lead.

FC Bayern had chances in the opening 45 minutes, but they coul dnot convert. Kingsley Coman had a header go just wide in the 36th minute and Robert Lewandowski was stopped point blank by Hradacky in the 43rd minute to send Leverkusen to half up 1-nil.

Leverkusen's luck finally ran out in the 59th minute as Lars Bender turned it over in the penalty area and Corentin Tolisso made them pay. He spun and dribbled past Bender, firing one into the lower right corner to level the match. Bayern had been dominating and it appeared only a matter of time until they found an equalizer.

But the tide seemed to turn after that goal as Leverkusen took over the match, dominating possession and outshooting Bayern 3-0 over the next 25 minutes. But Manuel Neuer absolutely robbed Dani Olmo in the 69th minute, and made a great save on Moussa Diaby in the 80th minute to keep the match level.

Patrik Schick would get involved in the 82nd minute, but his header grazed off the outside of the post.

FC Bayern finally countered in the 89th minute with Joshua Kimmich passing to Robert Muller. He split the defense and scored to deflate Leverkusen and send Bayern to their fifth straight win to open the campaign.

Moussa Diaby would get a late chance to equalize, but his shot sailed just wide of the far post in injury time. He would earn Man of the Match honors for his outstanding performance. He had the lone Leverkusen goal and five of their nine shots.

Bayern outshot Leverkusen 17-9, holding a 10-4 advantage in shots on target.

Leverkusen fell to (3-0-2, 9 pts) and will return home on Saturday to face Borussia Monchengladbach at BayArena.

Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen made great use of the counter attack on Saturday afternoon to run past Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 at BayArena. Patrik Schick scored twice in a four minute stretch in the second half to provide the winning margin in the victory.

The teams played a scoreless opening half with Monchengladbach dominating the play, and outshooting the home side by an 8-2 margin.

But as usually happens in football, the team that dominates possession makes one mistake and it ends up in their net. In the 48th minute, Patrick Schick stole the ball in the midfield, worked a return pass from Crysencio Summerville and sent Moussa Diaby clear with a through ball that Diaby placed just inside the right post to make it 1-nil.

Gladbach would get their just reward though in the 57th minute. Keeping constant pressure on Leverkusen they forced an error from Edmond Tapsoba in his own box and Christoph Kramer made them pay, blasting one in off the inside of the right post to level the match.

Leverkusen would retake the lead in the 67th minute as midfielder Dani Olmo setup Patrik Schick with a perfect pass and his one timer beat Yann Sommer. Just four minutes later, Leverkusen struck again, this tim eon a counter attack as Olmo made a long pass to Schic, who went in alone on Sommer and tapped it over him to make it 3-1. The brace was Schick's fourth Bundesliga goal on the campaign.

Luka Hradacky ended up with Man of the Match honors with nine saves on 15 Gladbach shots.

Leverkusen (4-0-2, 12 pts) slides in front of Monchengladbach, who lost for the first time this season and dropped to (3-2-1, 10 pts). Up next is a return to Europa League action
on Thursday evening in Turkey as they will face Sivasspor.

Sivas, Turkey (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen cruised to an easy 3-nil victory over Sivasspor on Matchday Two of the 2020-21 UEFA Europa League in Sivas. Leverkusen got goals from three teenagers as they dominated the Turkish side.

Florian Wirtz got the party started in the 33rd minute as he took a pass from Sebastiano Esposito and one timed it past an overmatched Mamdou Samassa. Five minutes later it was Esposito, making his Leverkusen debut, who scored. He took a pass from Paulinho and was unmarked in the box and easily tucked it home.

In the 69th minute was arguably the prettiest goal on the evening as Eduardo Camavinga hit a bouncing ball up and over Samassa to make it 3-nil.

Leverkusen outshot Sivasspor 12-9 including 5-0 in shots on target. They held a 57-43% advantage in possession and were never really threatened while running out their "B" team. Leverkusen wasted no time in taking control of this match as they made Koln pay for a turnover in the midfield. Moussa Diaby intercepted a ball and sent it in to Schick. He ran a gorgeous give and go with Karim Bellarabi, then hit a rocket with the left foot into the top right corner to give Leverkusen the early lead in the sixth minute.

Sebastian Anderson had a chance to level it in the 31st minute, but his header went just wide of the right post. It may have been Koln's best chance of the afternoon.

Timo Horn kept Koln in the match with several key saves. He stoned Charles Araguiz in the 37th minute. Karim Bellarabi and Moussa Diaby both had chances early in the second half but both shot wide of the target, keeping Koln in the match. But in the 65th minute, Lars Bender came down the right side, dribbling into the are and found an unmarked Schick at the top of the six and he made no mistake, one-timing it past Horn to make it 2-nil.

Koln did not have many good scoring chances in the second half. They were outshot 14-10 in the match and Leverkusen held the ball for 61% of the possession as they moved to (5-0-2, 15 pts) on the campaign. Koln dropped to (1-1-5, 4 pts) and they have fallen to 16th place.

Frankfurt, Hesse (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen was kept off the score sheet for a second consecutive Bundesliga match as they dropped a hard fought match 1-nil on Sunday afternoon to Eintracht Frankfurt. Djibril Sow's goal early in the second half proved to be the winner in the highly contested match.

The opening half was pretty evenly played as the teams went to the break scoreless. The best opportunity in the opening 45 minutes came off the foot of Moussa Diaby, who was stopped by a great save from Kevin Trapp. Frankfurt outshot Leverkusen 7-4.

Djibril Sow would break the ice in the 51st minute. He came in and Niklas Lomb made the initial save on Sow's shot, but the rebound hit Sow and bounced back past Lomb and Sow had to just tap it into the empty goal to put Frankfurt in front. Lomb was making his second consecutive Bundesliga start for Leverkusen.

Kevin Trapp then made a couple of crucial saves down the stretch to keep Frankfurt out front. In the 79th minute he deflected a Patrik Schick shot over the bar and then made a diving save on Kerem Demirbay in the 86th minute.

Frankfurt (6-1-2, 19 pts) would outshoot Leverkusen 17-7 and 9-4 in shots on target but Leverkusen's chances were excellent. They just could not finish.

Karim Bellarabi suffered a bruised leg early in the match and had to come off. He will be out for up to a week.

Leverkusen (5-0-4, 15 pts) will return home for a mid-week clash on Wednesday with 2. Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf in second round action of the DFB-Pokal. They return to Bundesliga play next Saturday as they will host Werder Bremen.

Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen opened up it's DFB-Pokal tournament with a second round 3-nil victory over longtime rival Fortuna Dusseldorf at BayArena on Wednesday evening. Two late goals made the margin a bit larger than how the match played out, but Leverkusen will take it.

Leverkusen was all over Dusseldorf from the start, and almost took a very early lead but the woodwork was kind to the visitors as Dwight McNeil's shot in the 7th minute hit the woodwork and bounced back out.

Dusseldorf was not as lucky in the 22nd minute when Sebastiano Esposito beat his man at the top of the box and passed it into Florian Wirtz near the penalty spot, where he one timed it into the right corner to give Leverkusen a lead. Esposito and Julian Baumgartlinger each had glorious chances to increase that lead but fluffed their lines and we went to halftime with Leverkusen leading 1-nil.

Rouwen Hennings had a marvelous chance to equalize in the 50th minute but his shot sailed just over the bar.

Lennart Grill, making his first appearance for Leverkusen this year, then came up with a huge save in the 70th minute on a cracker from Dawid Kownacki.

Leverkusen would put it away with two late goals as Eduardo Camavinga and Dwight McNeil sealed it with markers in the 79th and 87th minutes. It was a rightful result with Leverkusen holding advantages in shots, shots on target and possession. Dwight McNeil earned Man of the Match honors.

Leverkusen returns to Bundesliga action on Saturday as they host Werder Bremen (3-3-3, 12 pts). Bayer have lost three of their last five Bundesliga matches.

Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia (AP) - Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen played to a scoreless draw on Saturday evening at BayArena. It wasn't a game without chances, but Werder Bremen just packed it in defensively and dared Leverkusen to try and break through and they could not.

Keeper Jiri Pavlenka kept Leverkusen off the board in the 14th minute with a nice save on a shot from Moussa Diaby. Patrik Schick then missed from just inside the box in the 24th minute, sailing a shot just over the bar.

Werder Bremen then got a huge break in the 36th minute when Marco Friedl was tripped in the box by Charles Araguiz that produced a penalty. But Lukas Hradacky came up huge, blocking the shot from Niclas Fullkrug to keep the match scoreless.

Pavlenka would come up with another huge save in the 71st minute, this time on Patrik Schick, as he deflected his shot over the goal. Moussa Diaby would get one more great chance in the 80th minute and he charged in from the left but his shot hit the side netting and this one ended a draw.

The draw was Leverkusen's first on the campaign and more troubling is the fact that it was their third straight Bundesliga match without a goal. They fall to (5-1-4, 16 pts) on the campaign and seem to be stuck in neutral at the moment.

Werder Bremen (3-4-3, 13 pts) remains two points behind Leverkusen.

Shots were even at 9-9 with Leverkusen getting five on target to Bremen's four. Kevin Mohwald was the Man of the Match.
