Is there REALLY a "Superiorly Talented" program in the....

    SEC?

I've read multiple magazines saying LSU is CLEARLY the most talented program in the SEC.

I saw Kirk Herbstreit say that Florida is CLEARLY the most talented team in the SEC in 06.

    I don't think so.

Sure...I've heard ad nauseaum how incredibly talented LSU is, etc. We've heard in previous years how every player at Tennessee will be a superstar etc.

But bottom line...in my opinion...NONE of the "Big Six" in the SEC is that much better than the others...excluding teams on probation, etc.

When at full strength, for the most part, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Alabama all match up with each other athletically.

Sure, every once in a while...a team will get a Jevon Kearse or Cadillac Williams-type talent, but more often than not...everyone is pretty much on an even keel talent-wise.

If that WERE NOT the case...then we would have a "dominant" program that was laying waste to the rest of the conference....and I have to think way back to the mid 90s and a guy named Spurrier to find a team like that. That was more coaching than a "talent gap".

The last 3 years, we've had 3 different SEC champs...LSU, Auburn, and Georgia. Between those three last year...LSU beat Auburn...who beat Georgia...who beat LSU.

My point is....I'm sick of hearing how "LSU is clearly the most talented" or "Florida has more talent than anyone else in the league", etc. because quite frankly it SIMPLY IS NOT TRUE. And the parity among the elite programs over the last decade proves that.

i think teams like Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Arkansas have as much "talent" at the skill positions they just arent as strong in the trenches

Larry...I think the "Bottom Six" in the SEC all have legit studs at key positions. The difference is depth. The "Big Six" corner the market on 2-3 deep "SEC talent". Patrick Willis at Ole Miss is probably the best linebacker in SEC and I'd say right now the NATION. He's a monster. Darren McFadden at Arkansas has "Bo" or "Herschel" like God given physical talent. Jerious Norwood who played for Mississippi State last year is one of the "diamonds in the rough" picked up in the NFL draft..a bonafide stud.

The difference is that Arky, Ole Miss, Vandy, etc. don't have 4-5 of these guys at any position on the field for the most part. AU, LSU, UGA, UF, UT, and UA usually do for the most part.

I don't think so. McFadden is a true stud who'd play anywhere and if he doesn't slump will be #3 in SEC history. Little is an odd case, because since UK is clearly no threat to any team, I don't think they take them seriously, so he's hard to judge. PWillis is the man. Other than that, I don't think any of the 4 bottom tier (OM, MSU, UK, and VU) are close, and there's a noticable gap between Arky/USC and the other 6.

Bet you didn't know that in the last 4 years, LSU, UGA, and Auburn are all 2-2 against each other. In the last two years they're 18-1 and 18-2 against the other 9 teams.

Perhaps there is...but its not Florida. LSU has all the talent in the world, but they don't coach em up as good as UGA. Auburn probably has the 2nd most talent but is right up there with UGA in asst coaching.

I'm not really sure LSU has as much talent as is percieved.

You have to show the bottom tier of the SEC respect. Last night in my Tennessee dynasty I got humbled by Ole Miss at home! This was after one of my biggest wins to date. I beat LSU 56-0 in Baton Rouge!

I went 38-2 over 3 years, winning 2 NCs and losing a third in 2020-2022. Now I've lost 20 starters and am 4-4 with losses to Vandy and Colorado and getting blown out by Tennessee and LSU with LSU dropping 70 on me.

What? Your 'that' needs to be specified. Would I not believe what I said, or would I not believe that they don't have that much talent?

On paper, they have a talent advantage, but it's by no means huge.

                        Then again, on paper:

Kenny Irons is the 51st best senior RB in the country and Ken Darby the 45th, while greats such as Michael Johnson, Riggs, Lorenzo Booker, and Deshawn Wynn are top 10

Hell, of the top 30 WR in the country in 2002, only about 10 have been remotely revelant

                        Tyler Watts has two Heismans

Hell, LSU's wonderboy Periloux could literally not take a real snap until his senior year.

I'm sure if they said "Auburn is clearly the most talented" you would have agreed and wouldn't have made this thread. It's all about pre-season hype...SEC is a strong conference no doubt, but talent doesn't equate to success. See Florida State football.
