    And most schools...talent does equate to success...see LSU's NC 03, AU's undefeated 04, Texas's 05 NC.

However, HORRID Coaching can turn talented teams into pretenders. See 2000 Alabama, 03 Auburn, and every post Mark Richt-offensively coached FSU squad.

What the? Look..I don't build my team up in the preseason. I never have and never will. Have you ever seen me debating Bama's preseason ranking? No.

And please, don't bring up 2000. I almost have that season and its head coach completely blocked out of my memory.

Not to brag, but I think Auburn's coaching is *much* better than UGAs.

And we are just supposed to take your rating system as gold? Because I know you aren't using their recruiting rankings, that would be ridiculous even by Auburn-fan standards.

Considering the recruits they get, I would have to agree.

All discussions on "talent" are all recruiting ratings. What else is there to judge on besides the ~15 players on each team who played the previous year? If it's not recruiting rankings, how would we know that USC is talented? They only return 4 starters on offense, so we can assume the team will not be good, right?

But wait, we know they do have 2 #1 QBs, 2 ***** and a few **** RBs, and a bunch of good Oline men. Thus it can be assumed they're talented.

Seriously, if recruiting rankings aren't what we mean when we say "talent", what is?

It's part of it, but the point is that it's insane to use them as a barometer of the whole team as compared to another. Just one example would be Mike Williams, the best Wide Reciever in America in 2003 was a 3-star recruit out of high school, yet anyone who knows anything about football would not have listed him in that manner at the time if they had done what you just did with the current LSU team. The opposite is also true for players who don't pan out as superstars but are still in the starting lineup. Overall team talent is based partialy on potential and partially on proven results, LSU is considered by most at this point of be at least one of the top 10 teams in america, and top 5 or even top 3 by others. So therefore, people who make their living watching and evaluating all 117 teams say that LSU has some of the best talent in the nation. Are these people infallable? of course not, but their opinion still means a hell of a lot more than some Auburn fan whose knowledge of our lineup is limited to the one game you watched closely and the handful of others you might have caught with passing interest.

and where did I say that Auburn didn't have strong talent? It has been LSU or Auburn representing the West in the SECCG 5 of the last 6 years, why would this year be any different?

Well i believe what the original poster was saying that it is a common perception that LSU is by far the most talented team in the conference, when in fact that is not the case.

THE ONLY REASON PEOPLE SAY LSU HAS THE MOST TALENT IS BECAUSE OF THEIR RECRUITING

Why the hell do you think people say FSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Tennessee have talent? Certainly they didn't prove anything on the field last year.

Why do people say Florida has the most talent in the SEC? They haven't even won their division since 2000.

Why are USC, Texas, and OSU assumed to have talent? They all return less proven players than several teams in the country.

If LSU is so superiorly talented than other teams, where is it? Comparing to Auburn, they aren't much better at QB and WR, while far inferior at RB and OL. Auburn has a better secondary and DL with LBs a draw. But since you feel LSU is so much more talented, where is it?

I dont think thats what the perception is, i think the perceptiuon is we have top 10 in america talent and top 3 in the SEC talent. I also don't think that's an unfair perception to have. But if i type perception 3 more times in this post maybe i will set the OS record. Or maybe thats just a perception.
