Nice pickup. In 3 years he could be a helluva player.

A huge blow for IU. Especially since his brother is a Sophomore at IU.

But, really it's not all that surprising as it seems like every time IU gets a commitment from a 4 star prospect they end up changing their mind later on. Last year it was LB Jeremy Gainer going from IU to Michigan St. and now Black this season. Can't say I really blame them for changing their minds though.

Yeah I agree duns. It has to be a big factor for a kid seeing that he can go to play for his hometown team and have a chance at winning, even possibly being in the BCS/National Championship picture with a team like Cincinnati. Plus let's face it B. Kelly > B. Lynch.

On the recruiting you can even go back to Jerimy Finch who committed to IU then decided to go to Florida. After playing well and breaking his leg his freshman season he transfers back to IU...and for some puzzling reason hasn't seen the field

The only problem I have with your first paragraph is then why did Black even commit to Indiana in the first place over Cincinnati if all those things mattered to him like playing for his hometown team and a BCS caliber team. It's not like Cincinnati's and Brian Kelly's success just happened these past few weeks. It was pretty well known when Black committed to IU that Cincinnati was a up and coming program and BCS contender and that Kelly is 10 times the coach Bill Lynch is. It's just disappointing and par for the course for any big time recruits for IU. But, like I said I don't blame them for wanting to play someplace other than IU. Bottom line is IU needs to win to close the deal on good recruits.

I'm willing to give Lynch a break on Finch as he sees him play a lot more than I do. I have to believe that if Finch really could help the team Lynch would be playing him because his job is on the line and he can't just keep someone on the bench who could help the team win. So, I'm thinking there is more to Finch then what was seen of him coming out of high school. Be it learning the defense, laziness, overhyped, or whatever.

Duns, that's a very good question and one none of us may ever really know the answer to except the kid himself. A lot of times these young guys can be influenced by a number of different factors whether its a coach, a team's success or even something as variable as the weather or the girls on campus, lol.

Reading about his commitment change, the overlying reason I kept seeing was that he felt when he committed to Indiana he was doing so for everyone else and thought it was the best decision for his family (as you know his brother plays there), not himself. He mentioned that he had been having second thoughts for the past few weeks and felt in his heart that he wanted to go to Cincy. I can't argue with that. I don't know him personally, and I think back when I was trying to choose a college to go to and how many times I changed my mind, lol. All in all I guess we can only go by his word.

It just sucks because he was the top recruit for IU and I agree that IU has to start winning in order to bring those type of guys in consistently AND seal the deal -- you don't get top 20 DE/DTs looking to come to IU everyday. The stadium update alone isn't going to do it.

That is a very good point! Now that you said that, I could definitely see something other than his football skill alone being a big factor in his playing time...or lack thereof.

Texas' class is absolutely ridiculous this year.

Last year wasn't too hot. It also gets hurt when OU comes in and poaches the top players from the state.

That doesn't happen much anymore. Mack Brown pretty much picks and chooses which players he wants from Texas. With OU getting the occasional big time player here and there. But thats going to happen. Not everybody is going to want to wait there turn at Texas.

OU doesn't steal the players Texas wants like they used to. But they're so many quality players in Texas that its really not that big of deal.
