Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows

I should be getting pumped for Mizzou to play Oklahoma this weekend, but instead all anyone wants to talk about is conference realignment.

Please, let SOMETHING happen ASAP so we can move on.

Here's my list of possibilities for Missouri ranked from what I most want to see happen to the least:

      1. Mizzou stays in Big 12
      2. Mizzou to Big Ten
      3. Mizzou to SEC
      4. Mizzou to Big East/Big 12 conglomo

These are based on personal tastes only and have no regard for what is financially or logistically best for the college.

EDIT: lol @ all of the Atlantic Ocean/Gulf of Mexico talk earlier.

They're probably just being careful about the lawyers-don't want someone going Ken Starr outta the Big East any causing them problems. As for the ACC, West Virginia academics wouldn't fly there, I would've been stunned if that was ever going to happen.
I said this hours ago. I guess no one paid attention.

I dont really care who goes where and all of that nonsense anymore, but lets make 1 thing very clear. All these people talking about academics need to get outta here. Academics aint got shikus do with any of this. Its all about the money. Mizzou to the B1G would not really add the St. Louis market as the St. Louis market combines coverage with IL and Mizzou. KC would come on board but thats not a huge market. Now the SEC on the other hand made perfect sense.

Same can be said for WVU, their academic standing did not keep them from getting into the ACC.

Before its all said and done, the B1G is going to have to seriously rethink their AAU requirement if they want to pull in teams that add new tv markets.

Explain how, then, WVU has been denied entry into the ACC no less than three times (per CollegeFootballTalk)? What was the deciding factor, if not academics?

I don't deny that money talks, but to dismiss academics outright might be a bit too brash.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows

The Southeastern Conference and the University of Missouri have informally agreed that, barring new developments, the school will join the league and that Auburn University will move to the SEC East Division, according to two people familiar with the discussions.

A majority of presidents has endorsed the informal agreement, the sources said.
Ok, so where are we right now?

aTm and Mizzou to the SEC.
ACC has added Pitt and Syracuse.

OU and UT messed up their Pac 12 deal. The move of Mizzou really puts the Big 12 in doubt, but as long as OU and UT stay together then there will be some version of it. However, Texas might need to make some serious concessions to OU.

                And nobody likes West Virginia.

I'm talking in the now, not applications done in years past. Academics gets tossed around by these presidents and commissioners as the scapegoat term. Expansion, playoffs, etc. The academic angle is played out

having said all that, i dont hold a position either way. id rather have the conference stick with (if we get a viable 14th team) 14 teams assuming no acc teams jump.
Actually, pods also work at deciding championship matches, as you have to beat everyone in your pod plus your matchup in order to get into the game.
