Why are you guys acting like Mizzou will be totally irrelevant in the SEC? They'd be in a division with Bama, LSU, Ole Miss, A&M, Arkansas, and Miss St. Outside of Bama/LSU, is there a program in that group that is heads and shoulders above Mizzou? And being in a better conference and getting more money should help you get better athletes to your school. I don't see the new SEC West as being significantly tougher than the Big 12

Mountain West Conference meeting with Conference USA next week to discuss a potential 22/24 team football conference for the other guys.
2 divisions....24 teams... BCS bowl bid championship game...
Just one BCS bid for a non-BCS school, but the BEST non-BCS team.
Sounds like a win win for me. Do it!!!

Basically, I see them being the same thing they have been in the Big 12, a middle of the conference team with the possibility of competing for a conference title every once in a while.Comment

I think people see Mizzou as more of a recent "flash in the pan" program than one with true staying power. I don't think they would compete for too many division titles in that SEC West, but I don't see them being the next Vandy/Kentucky/Ole Miss either.

This is more for humor than anything. It talks about the faces of re-alignment and what they are thinking about it. Best ones are Turner Gil and the Pride of Oklahoma Marching BandRangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
That's about how I see it. I think they'll be in a similar spot as South Carolina or Arkansas. Competitive, and every few years, they are in the running for an SEC title game. I also think that, if Auburn moves to the east, the West is the easier division.

The SEC is a top heavy league that has a real good medium and then the very low (Vandy more than often). I don't think the SEC would add Mizzou, because I honestly would seen them in the Vandy/Ole Miss category (has some good years) than the South Carolina/Arkansas area (always a game or two away from the top).
You have LSU, Bama and UF usually around the top. Then when they faulter, teams like UGA, Arky, USC, AU who can jump in when one falters or they are already good enough to run with the top, while Miss St and UT are a few pieces away these days. Then you have the UK, Ole Miss, Vandy who can have some decent years, but can't sustain it.
Granted, the only team I'd like to see added to the SEC would be VT or UNC. If A&M joins I'd like to see VT in the East because I think they'd fit well. Only reason I say UNC is because I know UF/UGA/USC/UK don't want any other teams to join from their states and UNC has a potential to fit in.
I'd really like the SEC to keep it's "geographic" name, cause it's one of the only conferences that have a name that makes sense, unlike the two backward BIG's and now the Big East with TCU.Last edited by TMJOHNS18; 09-24-2011, 03:20 PM.Comment

Slive was at the LSU game tonight in Morgantown. Make of that what you will. It probably means nothing, but who knows?Comment

Err.... Arkansas and South Carolina not only have 0 SEC titles but also only I think 4 appearances (USC 1 and Ark I think 3). So saying they make a run every few years, that really must be a big few years between. Of course, USC likes to win early and self destruct later on.

Otherwise, Florida State folks are not liking the northern additions to the ACC and are finally wanting to see Florida State move to a football conference. They are a more likely addition to the SEC than V Tech is unfortunately.
Scheduling 13 teams is a mess so they really do need to add another. Virginia Tech isnt an impossible add but it wont be easy, florida state is a building possibility and 20 million cost of moving will be easily paid back with the growing payouts to SEC institutions.
North Carolina wont leave the ACC because of the Duke/NC State/Wake Forest connection. Although I agree they would make for a decent addition opposite of Missouri should adding #15 and #16 become necessary.
Of course the official line would be that Slive was just there for the game of the week or whatever but he would be a poor commissioner if he WASNT using it as a judgement on WVU. WVU has a lot of negatives it brings with it. They needed to prove on the field that they bring a team that can compete or else they simply are not worth adding to the SEC.Comment

Hey! Don't you come in here with your logical reasoning and attempt to ruin the fun! Silve was there to rip Morgantown a new one, that party animal. Or to extend an invitation to WVU, which turned out to be a blank piece of paper in a prestigious envelope. As they stared in horror at what they received, The Undertaker's music sounded over the PA, they shut the lights off in the stadium, and Silve disappeared into the night, until next time, until next time...Boston Red Sox
