Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
I can think of nothing that illustrates the folly of so-called "superconferences" better than this. The notion that a rivalry can be manufactured is absurd to begin with, but the idea that it can be done when the two schools are over 900 miles apart is so completely ridiculous that it almost defies belief.Comment

Why would Florida campaign for West Virginia? Not saying that isn't the case, but I just don't understand why they would do that.Ryan Spencer

1. If A&M gets a permanent game with Florida and the SEC stays at #13 for a year, then who is LSU's which leads me to...
2. Florida will just play both LSU and A&M next year on the schedule is all it means, probably, though schedules will be a mess period. The MAC gets away with it because they have no cross-divisional games scheduled yearly. So chill people.Comment

I don't buy any of this "insider information" anyway as it's all been wrong, except for the ones lucky enough to guess right.Comment

This Texas A&M press conference is F'ing brutal to watch. I couldn't be in a room with one of these fans for more than a few minutes.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
One of the main "insiders" did apparently get the Holgorsen hire right before it was announced last year, so I guess that does make their statements somewhat more valid (though that could have just been a lucky guess).
Some Louisville stations have apparently reported that Louisville has been offered to join the Big 12, though I have seen no written articles of the sort yet, though. However, the ESPN insiders section does have an insider article that mentions that a Big East school may have received a Big 12 invitation.

Several radio stations this evening have reported that WVU will join the SEC, but I've not heard or read anything solid yet. We'll see. If there is fire to this smoke, I expect to hear something definite this week.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Rumor has it that Texas A&M's new permanent cross-divisional rival will be Florida. If true, that means that Florida and LSU will no longer play annually.
You could extrapolate this to mean that WVU and LSU could be cross-divisional rivals. Maybe?
Supposedly, Florida was campaigning pretty hard to get WVU in the SEC (I am not sure why, though), so perhaps they made this sacrifice to get them in? I am really stretching here, though. We shall find out in due time.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
It's what I already pointed out.
1. It's one year. And I doubt LSU/Florida is cancelled because if TAMU is a "rival" with Florida, then who does LSU get in 2012? They have to have someone. All it means is that Florida will probably have TAMU on the schedule.
2. It's going to have to change for the SEC period. If they go to 16, the protected games may have to go depending on the structure.
And I remember someone earlier saying it was a joke that Florida and TAMU were "rivals" because they were so far away. Pretty sure that Arkansas and SC have been "rivals" for 20 years and are... wait for it... 915 miles apart! Nothing new.
Actually, when looking at the SEC'S protected games, here are the distances. Using TAMU and Florida's distance as reasons why it shouldn't be a protected game are a joke.
SC-Arkansas = 915 miles
Ole Miss-Vandy = 240 miles
LSU-Florida = 600 miles
Kentucky-MSU = 500 miles
Auburn-Georgia = 175 miles
Tennessee-Alabama = 315 miles
Auburn-Georgia is still a good 2.5-3 hours apart. It's not like you have to be UNC and Duke and be a couple miles apart to be rivals.Last edited by Redacted01; 09-27-2011, 06:55 AM.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Mike Slive announces SEC has no plans to add 14th team until 2013 at the earliest.
Some blog claims BYU has an offer from the Big 12.
Greg Swaim (Big Time Sports) also claiming Louisville has Big 12 invite as well.
Gotta think one of them is wrong (as usual). I personally would be very surprised to see the Big 12 go beyond 10 teams right now. It'll be a year or two before they get back to 12 (which will happen, I believe). BYU and Louisville both great targets and much better than the TCUs and Air Forces that have been mentioned in passing. Would love to have both and ideally West Virginia as team #12.Comment
