Those six or however many schools can sue the SEC all they want. A&M announced they were leaving before the SEC ever offered any invitation... come to think of it, the SEC still has not offered an invitation because of this mess. There may be a settlement, but it would be just a small dent to the SEC, who would be on their way to 14, 15, 16 teams at that point. Meanwhile, the Big 12 (I really wish people would quit putting XII; it's not that name) would be in shambles.

If the SEC is so certain, why are they asking for waivers from every school? They certainly aren't acting like they aren't concerned about this.

Not saying it isn't going to happen, just seems the SEC is careful about avoiding litigation.

The roman numerals are in the logo, but they were never the name. On that same logo, it even says "Big 12 Conference".

Well duh. The lawyers for the SEC are going to take every step possible to avoid the cost of litigation. Even if they can't get all the waivers signed, there is still a chance that they go through with the move anyway.

1. There is a chance that the litigation won't be successful.
2. aTm/SEC will probably just pay settlements to the non-waiver schools

Couldn't the SEC use that one against the Big 12 now?

Something like, "Oh, you want to try to file suit against us? Well why did you come talking to one of our schools?"

You can take everything I know about the legal processes involved here and fit it all under my thumbnail, so... If you want to break this down in layman's terms, feel free to clarify.

It just seems to me that that was a(slightly) under-handed move that could hurt any cases coming against the SEC...

I'm not even sure the SEC is actually asking for those gaurentees. Two weeks ago there were reports the SEC would only take A&M if they had a 14th team to go along. Now the SEC says they are fine with 13 and haven't even discussed a 14th team.
