Maybe, but that is a tiny % of players in FBS. ALL D-1 and MOST FCS recruiters sell a path to the NFL to their recruits. If all things are even, why go to school A when school B is telling you they have a plan that, if followed, will get you drafted? That is usually the first thing recruiters talk about because it is usually the first thing recruits want to hear. Its usually mama that wants to hear about the academics and family atmosphere. Kids want to see the weight room, see the trophy case, and see the list of active and past NFL players.

Folks, we're already at minor league football for the major college programs. If you think otherwise, you're either a doubter or a fool. These schools are recruiting the best football talent around, and these kids are going straight down the path to pro football. If there is a split, and I believe there will be, that will be the catalist that will start allowing schools to pay for the top talent.

Do I want to see it? Perhaps for the playoff part (I'd want a refund on some of my schooling if they decided to pay the players). It doesn't matter what I want though, it's heading in that direction.

The US is the only country where colleges have athletic teams and give scholarships based on that. Now we are starting to see the fallacy in that. It is what it is, minor league football and basketball.

If you think college football and basketball are already minor league football and basketball, then you have no idea what is implied by the term "minor league".

What do you think it is? College football (to a great extent) and basketball (to a lesser extent) are sports where although they may not be as popular as the professional sport while feeding into the major league game. The only difference is that college sports make more money and are better followed than traditional minor leagues.

hmmm....so I'm thinking BYU was scared of the Big 12. Why else would you say you don't want to go to a "splintering" conference and then seriously consider one that closer to death.

Adding BYU is a "top priority" for the Big East.

The Big East needs BYU more than BYU needs the Big East.

Despite the craziness, BYU going to the Big Twelve would seem like an admission that the independent thing wasn't working out.

But going to the Big East isn't admitting that going Indy isn't working?

If BYU stays away from the Big 12 they are better off staying Independent. There is nothing to gain by going to a BE conference that will probably lose their AQ status anyway.

From a perception standpoint it will look like BYU is helping out the Big East more than the Big Twelve helping out BYU if they joined them...that's what I was trying to say.

Depending on whether or not they lose that status is the big if here. They gain big time joining a far less weaker conference with AQ status (Big East) than joining the Big Twelve.

For the record, I doubt the Big East loses AQ status, in all honesty. There are no set procedures from a conference losing AQ status and I'm sure there would be a lot of fallout that the BCS folks would probably rather not deal with.

Anyways, this is at the WVU Basketball Practice Facility now.

BYU went independent in order to reach their nation wide audience. The new Big East looks like it will be serving a nation wide audience. It is a conference that works for BYU even better than the Big 12 does because of that nationwide grasp that it supposedly may end up with.

Now if they dont succeed at bringing in some Western programs then I doubt we see BYU in the Big East.

BYU left because Utah was being promoted to a BCS league, and if they stay in a mid-major, they get labelled the little brother of the state.
