Sort of, kind of, but not really. It's just that UNC, Duke, and Wake Forest are priority-one basketball schools, so NCSU gets painted as this football school when that isn't necessarily true (though football is much bigger here than elsewhere in NC). Also, the fact that NCSU's basketball team has sucked since 2006 (until this year) has helped to fuel the notion that it is a football school. If the basketball team continues to win, though, I think you'll see this demeanor change to some degree.

Does Boise State's football program alone really carry that much national weight to leverage that sort of TV deal?

As I cross-posted in the other thread having talked with my brother about this, the ACC arguably will be fine so long as their television deal remains intact with ESPN (who is likely pulling many if not all of the strings on conference expansion) and as long as the NCAA remains intact.
Frankly, the Big East doesn't have much, but from what I understand, NBC Sports really wants in on college football (aside from showing depleted MWC games) and the Big East is their only option. This could fuel a bidding war between NBC Sports and ESPN which could drive the value much higher than what the Big East probably deserves. Also, still remember that Big East basketball is still very good and the Big East still has huge media markets in the Northeast.

Regardless, in light of other deals signed recently, the ACC's deal isn't very good, regardless, and if FSU leaves, then there will be even further pain.

NBC needs programming for their sports network and the Big East is the only property that is anywhere near being available on the free market.

I could've sworn this was a problem everyone thought would arise with Texas/Texas A&M. There was a belief that if one tried to go without the other, a special session would be called to keep the two schools together. Obviously, that wasn't the case.

I still dont understand how the ACC is better than the Big East in football. Both conferences suck and they will have about the same TV deal.

Name value? FSU, The U, and VaTech sound better than WVU, UC, and UCONN?

They are also better nationally than anything the Big East has. FSU has some of the most watched games and that is even with them being average the last decade.

And what have they done recently? How has the ACC done in BCS bowl games vs how the Big East has done in BCS bowl games? It's like Notre Dame with the name value. Yeah they used to be good but they don't deserve the hype.

Well hold on now, I just said name sake, not anything about wins. I'm on the same page saying they're pretty much similar conferences. But even though the ACC is down, those names carry more weight than the Big East names.

You hit the nail on the head. NC State's priority is to compete with UNC and Duke and and in basketball they just don't have the national staying power in the sport that Duke and UNC do. I mean they've scoffed at State every year but this year in basketball and barely consider them a rival. NCST doesn't want to be the third choice in this rivalry. I've been to NCST and Carolina football games, as well as ECU, where I go. State and ECU just have that football atmosphere that UNC doesn't. UNC literally waits for Basketball season and when they tried to compete in football they had to cheat up a storm to just be mediocre. Are they a TRUE football school. Probably not but a move to the SEC would be a great move for NC State. SEC gets the Raleigh market as well as a hold in Charlotte, and get a basketball team that could compete and a hold in a basketball state, really. Smart move for both but I think VTech is the SEC's main goal.

Although win wise they are about equal, the ACC schools have much bigger fanbases. I think the ACC needs to get Notre Dame and UCONN and become the first Super Conference (Besides the 90s WAC).

Than who? The SEC? Very VERY debatable. UNC has a national appeal because of Jordan and maybe Duke too but other than that, no way no how.
