Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows

More talk from OrangeBloods.com that Notre Dame will pull its Olympic sports from the Big East and put them in the Big 12. Swarbrick shot that rumor down immediately, but who knows. Big East is on a downhill slide, and the B1G has always been about making ND bring football along or nothing at all.

Also, an anonymous official from Boise State confirmed the school was in talks with the Mountain West about not leaving the conference as originally planned.

Boise seems to be hinting that it will stay. I'm thinking SDSU would do so as well then.

I think it depends on the Big East TV deal this fall. If I'm not mistaken Boise and San Diego will have to pay an exit fee from the Big East.

They said that to TCU as well. TCU hasn't paid it, and now the Big East is suing them for it.

I'm reading some rumors that Notre Dame may join the ACC quite soon as a partial member. Supposedly, the Domers are supposed to get some sweetheart deal and the ACC will vote on it this weekend.

            We'll see...

            Yale Bulldogs (NCAA Football 07)

I still think that these Notre Dame rumors are posturing to set up a deal with the B1G. They are trying to make it seem like they aren't on their radar when the fates are urging ND and B1G to unite. Notre Dame doesn't have much in common with the Big XII schools, and going to the ACC (even if only for olympic sports) would be a short sighted decision.

So in the last few post ND is going to the Big 12, ACC or the Big 10.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows

The Patriot League said they hope to expand to 10 teams. ND needs a new conference. Coincidence?

But really, I think the ACC would be the best fit, unless they want to move their football team, too. Then the Big 10.

Not putting too much stock into it until I actually see it happen, but given the ACC's aggressive nature in conference expansion over the past decade, I think it's plausible.

I wonder how the the ACC (or any potential destination conference) would handle Notre Dame's exclusive television contract... my guess is that any conference agreement accepted by Notre Dame would involve them keeping the vast majority of their exclusive television revenue, but in exchange other conference games could be broadcasted in their slot on NBC when ND has an away game or has a bye week.

The ACC would renegotiate with ESPN and Swofford shouldn't be allowed in the room. If ESPN doesn't give back the 3rd party rights or pay a lot of money for them, then bye bye. NBC and FOX both want in.

Yeah, I was just talking to my brother; apparently either side (ESPN or the ACC) is allowed one renegotiation of the deal during its term upon adding teams to or removing teams from the conference. If Notre Dame is added, the old deal is getting torn up and the future of the conference is (likely) secure.

That would kill the BE. If that happened, Boise and SDSU would be better in the MWC. That would leave the BE wide open to any confrences that want Rutgers (Big 10), UL (Big 12), and USF (Noboy).

Just because they offered doesn't mean that they are going to take it. All it does is push the ball back in B1G's court.

True. The only places I see ND going conference-wise are the B1G or the ACC, either are a better fit for the entire University of Notre Dame than the Big XII or the Big East.
