Hiring CBS Sports programming vice president Mike Aresco is a big step in TV negotiating.

I would also like to point out that since the start of the BCS the SEC has a record of 19-23 against the Big East.

Big East also hired Chris Bevilacqua who helped the PAC 12 and Texas Rangers negotiate their TV deals.
Those were great hires IMO, if they made this hire before WVU, PITT, and SU left, think things could have shaked out differently. If there was not such a large gap between BE and ACC payouts then I don't think Pitt or Syracuse would have left. I leave out WVU as they are a football school with NC aspirations and the BE had/has a perception problem.

If any BE school wants a shot at a NC, they will have to run a gauntlet like SU has and I seriously doubt any school wants to have that schedule.

Though, FCS makes a lot of sense for Idaho, more so than NMSU. Big Sky is ready for them, thye play in an FCS stadium, and have some good rivalries with Montana and ISU.
I agree NMSU is probably better equipped to handle being an Indy than Idaho is, however then only problem is where are the rest of the sports going to go? At least Idaho has a home for their olympic sports now. Denver and Seattle are the only one's left in the WAC.

I just don't see Idaho surviving this long term either. Idaho is banking on more realignment happening as their saving grace, but if anything things are getting more stable since now we are going to a playoff and AQ status is falling by the wayside. Wazzou is 10 miles from Moscow, but they won't be interested in coming to Moscow when they have large stadium on their campus and can fill it up for that game. UTSA and Texas State are probably looking for large paydays for their limited non-conference schedules. Besides, I keep reading rumors that Idaho really pissed off the Texas schools in the WAC this year and are supposedly the ringleaders that kicked Karl Benson out as Commish of the WAC who is now the commish of the Sun Belt.

I never realized Benson was liked by the WAC. The conference is dead, and then he quickly bolts for the belt.

NMSU could go to: Big West, Sun Belt (Stretch, but they did have Denver U beforehand. They must be kicking themselves for leaving now.), Southland, Big Sky, Summit, WCC, or Great West as a last ditch.

There's also the MPSF (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountai...rts_Federation) for the smaller sports.

I have no doubt these are great hires for the league. But do we honestly think that these moves are going to net these schools another 5-8 million per school yearly? Yes some schools are located in good markets, but they are not the main college draws in these markets. As much as I enjoy watching June Jones and SMU, they are just not the big dogs in Dallas and UH isn't the main draw in Houston. UCF isn't it in Orlando as well. There is a lot of potential in these schools and I think that is what you have to bid on. In addition, BE fans are banking on this bidding war to come from Fox, ESPN and NBC for BE football that I just don't see coming. In the end, I see ESPN walking away from BE football. For basketball, there will be one, however negoiations for that won't start until next year.

If they are able to get ACC type money from NBC, more power to them, but I don't see it and I strongly believe that these new Big East schools may end up being a little dissappointed when the numbers come in. This isn't like the Pac-12 which was horribily undervalued for years

Here is going to be the future storyline for the Big East, The Big East will get a new and much better TV contract. For the first time in Conference history, football will drive the bus. The basketball schools are not going to get a even slice of the pie, and they will split.

New Big East Commissioner Mike Aresco confirmed Thursday that the conference wants to add a 14th member for football, and is planning to have a championship game after next season.

Big East wants to add one more football school to get to 14 football members. I guess they will take another crack at BYU or Air Force to give Boise St and SDSU some travel relief. Anbody know any other possible choices?

Yea, I totally agree about Air Force. However where are they going to put their Olympic sports? Big East probably won't be an option

BYU has the best situation and probably adds the most. But they have their own deal with ESPN. Do they wanna give that up?

As I recall, ECU is a rumored target for the ACC if they ever push for the super-conference 16. If the Big East comes knocking first, they've got a chance.

I don't know why the ACC would want ECU. ACC owns the Carolina market and ECU doesn't bring in much TV market. While they are good and deserve to be in the next round of realignment I don't see the ACC calling.

Interesting if true since I put ECU in the ACC in my NCAA 13 dynasty. I doubt it happense though and I think ECU had previously really been hoping for a Big East invite.
