That's another point in that the Big East always had Notre Dame in a minor form of this agreement in the past. Now, the Big East is in dire straits, and they don't have a television deal to fall back on. Any football team that is still there is in a world of pain because their chances for inclusion in a national football playoff just went from rare to zero.

This is just amazing how Notre Dame and the ACC worked this out. I wouldn't be surprised if two more teams join within the next six months.

I agree, I wonder who else in in the works. I do not believe for one second that the ACC will stop at 15 basketball schools. Georgetown, UCONN, Villanova maybe?

The Big East reminds me of my all-time favorite scene in a movie from Monty Python. They keep losing a limb and say: "tis a scratch" "a flesh wound".

Do we know if the ACC exit free increase goes into effect immediately or if there is a leeway period for teams that want to jump ship to get the hell out?

Do we know if the ACC exit free increase goes into effect immediately or if there is a leeway period for teams that want to jump ship to get the hell out?

I have no clue. I would think so, but who knows. I'm susprised the ACC didn't do what the Big 10, Pac-12 and Big XII do and made the schools grant tv rights to the league instead of making the fee that high.

The Big East will still get a lot bigger TV deal than the Mountain West. There is really no reason for Boise State to back out of the Big East deal. The Big East will probably garner a total relatively close to the ACC TV deal once this is all said and done (though Boise St. won't get to share in the basketball revenues).

I agree to an extent Coogrfan, however the ACC has played its expansion targets very close to the vest. The Syracuse and Pitt stories broke on a Saturday morning while Marinatto was at a football game and they were members the next day and then this. I totally didn't see this coming. Like him or hate him, Swoffard has been a straight assassin when getting the members he wants and there are no leaks before hand. I am sure ESPN gave Notre Dame a heads up that it would sweeten the ACC's tv deal if they moved their sports over to the ACC. That is the only reason this went down. The ACC is giving up a cornerstone of it's founding principles of that all members MUST be a member in every sport and that includes football.

I'll just say this: the WWL's grubby little fingerprints were all over the Pitt/SU to the ACC move. ESPN probably had very little to do with ND's decision today, but I have no doubt they knew something was up and chose not to report it.

Yes, ESPN has been a thorn in the Big East side but they have only themselves to blame for this fiasco by not accepting a pretty good offer last year. Their leverage is getting less and less in negoiations and as much as the new commish is trying to sell the Big East, it keeps getting worse.

The Big East's hail mary was hoping that NBC would hop on and give them a huge contract that put them up there with the ACC and Big Ten in terms of money near 17-19 million. However, without Notre Dame, this puts this is major doubt.

NBC may be still interested so they can get more programming on NBC sports network, but the value took a hit when Notre Dame left because you had great synergy with Notre Dame football anchoring Big East games throughout the day on both NBC and NBC sports network.

Naw, cheer up Coogrfan. I really think you guys will get a really good tv deal. Somewhere around 10-12 million for the full members (like UH), 6-8 million for football members and 4 million for basketball schools. The money will be WAY better than CUSA. Between this and the new stadium, things only look up for you guys.

My arguement has always been that the Big East was not going to get close to what the ACC has now and will get with Notre Dame on board.

That was a pipe dream that was being sold to you guys to entice you guys to move. The move was correct for you guys, but the numbers just didn't make sense to me.

I agree that Boise needs to stick with the Big East, but the money won't touch the ACC. Yes markets are important, but national brand names mean something too. That's why West Virginia football leaving hurt more than people wanted to admit. And why I believe replacing Mizzou with West Virginia was a big upgrade in sports for the Big 12. The only brand names they have is Boise State football, UCONN and Georgetown basketball. Memphis and Louisville basketball add something along with Villanova basketball, but we all know football is driving this bus and all that is there is Boise State. The Big East needs to swallow its pride, take what they can get and work on getting national brands in football. They have GREAT potential with SMU, UH, USF and Louisville.

Well, BC will be locked in no matter what. I have heard the remaining 4 games will rotate and schools can play them once every 3 seasons. Wouldn't be susprised if Florida State or Miami get locked in as a permanent foe as well
