Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
I don't know much about creating a new conference, but this could be an idea for a new D1A western conference:
North
Montana
Montana State
North Dakota State
North Dakota
South Dakota State
South Dakota
South
New Mexico State
UC Davis
Sacramento State
Sam Houston State
Eastern Washington
Idaho
Obviously, these schools would not be competitive with most D1 schools (Even against Sun Belt or MAC competition) for a few years, but they all do decently attendance wise. Some may have to expand their stadium a bit.Football: Denver Broncos
Baseball: Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs
Hockey: Allentown Phantoms
NCAA: The College of William and Mary Tribe
William and Mary Class of 2018!Comment

If planned right, visit NYC in the process....can't be too bad. Unless you consider going to Iowa or Nebraska as a better road trip?Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
it's way beyond bordering on silly season. the border of silly season was crossed when Nebraska joined the BigTen. there's no excuse for abandoning decades and decades of rivalries. Nebraska didn't make any sense for the BigTen, its history was in the Big 8 / Big XII with teams like Kansas, Oklahoma, etc. but Maryland and Rutgers in the conference enters in another level of absurdity. that makes about as much sense as San Diego State in the Big East. (oh wait that's going to happen)
this thread didn't get 306 pages on its own. the conference re-alignment saga has become such a free-for-all that it's just honestly sad. truly sad. i mean, many of us grew up with a firm grasp of what schools were in what conference. now it's like a game of musical chairs. it's stupid, and it doesn't make any sense. you can say "oh well it's all about money". college sports is going to make money no matter what.Comment

To be fair, the silly season comment was about the time when conferences are shaken up a bit; akin to when drivers and teams change sponsors in racing.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
yeah but you've got to look for a tipping point. when did this mass wave of re-alignment start? Nebraska joining the BigTen started a lot of silliness. when they announced the leaders and legends stuff, people just couldn't believe what the BigTen turned into. so the idea of Maryland and Rutgers in the Big10 might seem like that is the border of silly season, but i would go back to Nebraska joining the BigTen. since then we've seen more teams join the SEC, Pac-12, and next year you have a whole other wave of teams moving around. it feels like someone is just shuffling a deck of cards and changing it every year. cdawg44 said it's gunna be weird not seeing Duke / Maryland, and he's right, but he's acting like it's a done deal. seeing Nebraska in the Big10 is weird enough, i can't even imagine Maryland and Rutgers in the Big10.Comment

You're missing my point. Silly season refers to the time when there is realignment news; it does not refer to the situation as a whole.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
New uniforms means new stuff for students/fans to buy. New conferences means new TV deals which will be more expensive than the last one, and therefore bring in more money to the university.Comment
