Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter

Back to the Big East for a second, unless they plan on breaking away from the basketball schools, I don't see them expanding much more except for the Kansas schools. We would be talking about a 20-member basketball conference at that point.

This situation changes with TCU entering the Big East. They only need 3 schools to get to 12. However if conference expansion happens and the Big XII folds, it is likely that the Big East will take any/all of those 5 (Baylor/ISU/KU/KSU/Mizzou) and get to 14 or 16.

16 teams in a conference, depending on how they are set up you could have 2 divisions of 8. If you play 9 conference games you're only playing 2 teams from the other division each season. If you do it home-and-home and alternate teams every two years, you'll play a total of 11 teams (out of the 15) in your conference over 4 years. How can it seem right to have an athlete graduate without ever playing 25% of the conference?
I was thinking of a different set up, but if you play 2 teams from the other division:

      Year 1- Teams A and B
      Year 2- C and D
Year 3- E and F (If you leave now then you will not play all teams)
      Year 4- G and H
Year 5 (Red shirts only)- A and B

I do think these conferences are too large, however.

If you had a 15 team conference you could try:

3 Divisions of 5. Play all division Rivals and 2 teams from each of the other divisions. That allows you to play all 14 teams over a 3 year period.

And reports are saying they're willing to go as high as 22 in basketball.

By going to the SEC, FSU would be a middle of the pack program when talking about stadium size, athletic budget, and booster contributions. In the ACC, we are the top dog.

Not being in the SEC did not hurt us when it came to playing in the first 3 BCS title games.

The gentlemens agreement amongst the SEC schools would make it tough for 9/12 schools to approve FSU. UF,Auburn, Bama, UGA, SC, would not approve of FSU.

Also been stated that UF, UGA, and SC all oppose a same state school being invited.

I agree. I don't see FSU coming to the SEC either. I like that FSU is outside the SEC and the rivalry with Florida is strong.

I do like the idea of TAMU coming over though. Pretty cool. I just wonder who would fill out the SEC East. Clemson would be great, but I don't want to see the ACC get ripped.

I really despise the idea of super conferences. Can't stand it.

Well now i'm starting to think the Big East would gran Kansas and KState. Even if Baylor and TTU go somewhere i'm pretty sure ISU will end up in the MWC, Then Utah St. will get the invite

I don't get why any of these teams would say no to the SEC....the amount of $$$ that will be made is so high that they would be fools to turn in down. I know that there are rivalry issues and conference loyalty issues....but this is all driven by the almighty dollar and Mizzou, Clemson, and FSU would be insane not to make the jump.

I think a split is inevitable. The football schools want more money for the TV deal than the bball schools so that is going to be a major hurdle if they plan on staying together.

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter

I can think of at least two reasons that TAMU should think long and hard about this :

                      1. much tougher competition (which means a reduced chance of ever getting to a BCS bowl);
                      2. according to SEC Commish Mike Slive, the SEC will distribute a record $220 mil in revenue to it's members this year (an avg of $18.3 mil/school). Impressive...until you compare that to the $52 million TAMU received in 2010 AUF distributions from the State of Texas' Permanent University Fund, plus the additional $322 mil in state appropriations the Ags also received that year. Jeopardizing even a portion of that kind of money by making a move without first getting the Legislature's ok would be utter folly.

It's going to happen. Already done. Worrying about some legislative soap opera obviously isn't a concern with the parties involved. If it was, we wouldn't be where we're at right now.

Like was said, pretty sure A&M has taken a long look at those considering this is the 2nd time in a year or so they are talking a move to the SEC. It's not like someone over there just woke up one day and said "I'm feeling a conference move today. Let's announce it."
