If this messes up my LSU tigers vs alabama, I will be serious pissed. LSU and Alabama always had a rivarly but ever since nick saban went to alabama it has intensified to be a historic one for obvious reason.

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
Looks like Texas A&M to the SEC is a sure thing now. If the Big XII doesn't bring anyone in, I'd expect Texas to go independent. Their contract with The Longhorn Network isn't going to allow them to join another conference.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
Hopefully they will stick with 2 divisions and it won't. It was suggested though that if the conference went to 16 teams that the SEC would go to 4, 4 team divisions.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
I don't think 4 divisions would work, there's too many rivalries that need to be protected.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
the only problem with a protected rival in a 16 team conference is even with a 9 game schedule you'd have a home and home and then wouldnt face the same team for 14 years. question becomes would the teams rather rotate the 2 teams in the opposing division. it is true that the 16 team conference essentially makes it two conferences so some teams would rather just protect one rivalry. id rather the sec go with a 14 team conference for continuity
simgamer, at the same time its easier for fans of any conference to associate the directional names for division even if the divisions werent aligned to be geographically accurate. you start naming your divisions ambiguous terms and you confuse everyone.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
Why do you feel it's a bad move? I think it's better for the SEC then TA&M. I don't think TA&M is going to be competitive these first couple seasons, but who knows past that.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
Everyone seems to feel that A&M are giving up their rivals by going to the SEC. Granted Losing Texas- Texas A&M every friday after Thanksgiving will hurt, but are the A&M - Tech and A&M- Baylor games really that heated?
Besides by joining the SEC, the old SWC A&M- Arkansas rivalry will have more meaning (they play just about every year out of conference as it is already), and LSU- A&M will develop into a big rivalry within a decade given the schools proximity to one another. Also after a decade or so A&M and Texas may very well start playing again once all the wounds have healed(out of conference of course) just like A&M and Arkansas do now.
I think the biggest thing A&M needs to fear is becoming an Also ran in College Footballs toughest division the SEC West.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
If the SEC really wants to grow, it will have to split up the conferences. The Big XII had teams playing their divisional opponents plus a rotation of three teams from the other division, and it kept things fresh. If all I'm seeing is the SEC West year in and year out, you'd better believe that will be a snooze fest.
I hear arguments such as Georgia and Clemson scheduling something out of conference because of a historical rivalry. How did that rivalry compare to what they have now? Rivals change over time. The battles with Tech and Baylor were very important to the Aggies, including the marches on the Brazos. In time, they will change to teams like Louisiana State and Arkansas. If you split up the SEC into fours, you will have some rivalries that lose their prominence.
However, this will be negated by the abundent new rivalries that pop up due to smaller divisions. There will be top flight matchups with teams that are similarly ranked facing each other. It's worked for the NFL, especially when you see the Steelers, Colts, and Patriots play each other every year. That type of competitive football can be a staple of the SEC.
Or you could have the same eight teams every year. Fun.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

A&M should dominate in basketball, but I don't ever see them being the top dog in footballComment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
I can see Texas A&M being a competitor in football after a couple seasons since they're the lone SEC school in Texas. Maybe winning a SEC title here and there, but I doubt they'll be a favorite to win the conference, at least in the next 5 years.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
Contrary to what some outlets are reporting, TAMU to the SEC is not a done deal...yet.
UPDATE: Maybe Texas A&M will not be pulling the trigger on an SEC move Monday like people expected and media reported. State Rep. Dan Branch (R-Dallas) seems reassured that A&M officials will wait until his special hearing of the Texas House Committee on Higher Education. After using the term “highly inappropriate” to multiple news outlets today regarding A&M movement to the SEC, Branch took a different approach with Morning News Statehouse reporter Robert Garrett. "I'm pleased to hear from A&M officials that the board meeting [Monday] is about beginning serious discussions with the SEC and not about finalizing or completing the acceptance of such a bid,” Garrett said. “I don't think it would be wise to pre-empt an opportunity for legislators to ask them questions.
"I'm trying to keep an open mind. If a bid is extended, that makes sense for A&M -- that doesn't have undue consequences on the other Texas schools -- I'm keeping an open mind. I don't have any predisposition. My only predisposition is to have something that is a value-added opportunity for the state of Texas." He added that he would like to see discussion of an emerging Texas tier-one institution to the Big 12 if A&M leaves and specifically mentioned Houston and SMU.Comment
