Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter

Florida State University president has given his personal assurances to ACC commissioner that they have had no contact with the SEC.

In an interview today, the guy who runs the A&M Rivals site (that broke this story initially) said that North Carolina and Duke are the two schools the SEC is interested in adding in the East. They would want one more in the west to balance and that team may end up being Missouri (down the line). OU does not want to split from Okie State, which is why OU (at this point) isn't a serious contender.

In addition, Kirk Bohls has said that UT has a "top 3" of schools they want the Big XII to pursue to replace A&M. In order: Notre Dame, BYU, Air Force.

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter

I really think A&M leaving for the SEC will trigger the death of the Big 12. Here is how I see things shaking out.....

A&M and Florida State will join the SEC.

ACC will grab Syracuse, Rutgers and Uconn from the Big East getting to 14 teams and help secure the Northeast Market along with Boston College.

The Big East gets bold and invites the 4 former Big 12 North Schools, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas St, and Iowa St. Basketball is king in the Big East and adding Kansas will have huge value. Factoring in the Syracuse, Uconn, Rutgers defections and the TCU addition, the Big East stands at 10 Teams. I see them inviting Houston and UCF to get to 12 then.

That leaves the Two Oklahoma and Three Texas Schools.

Texas, Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma St go to the "Pac-16"

Baylor has to settle for the Mountain West or C-USA.

I would agree in general but Iowa State is a member of the AAU as well as a Tier I research institution. Don't see us getting into the Big Ten however either way.

I get why you would want UNC or Duke if you're the SEC, but it ain't gonna happen. Neither one could compete at all in football, and they already are at the top of the heap in a premier basketball conference. Take in the fact that they have their **** basketball rivalry, and you're talking about two of the very few schools that value basketball as much or more than football, and I don't see it.

I don't see FSU either. If they wanted to be in the SEC, they probably would've been a long time ago. I think Clemson is the team that would go. To me, from the outside, they've always seemed to mesh much better with the SEC and ACC. They have two good rivalries in place (UGA and USC). And while, like Florida would want to block FSU, South Carolina may want to block Clemson, the Gamecocks don't have nearly the stroke that the Gators do, I'd imagine. And a second team in South Carolina doesn't hurt as much as a second team in Florida does, since practically the entire league heavily recruits Florida.

Ohhh, I dunno....UNC seems to be auditioning for the SEC, what with their NCAA scandals and such. I think they'd fit in just fine.

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter

I really hope that if this does pan out, that either Virginia Tech or Florida State is the team that makes the leap into the SEC. The forced rivalry with Virginia Tech would be perfect because of both VT and A&M having rich military traditions. Florida State would be good to because of the passion with both teams. The idea of Clemson kinda bores me (IDK, maybe somebody on here could change my mind).

I also hope that if this happens, that scheduling doesn't go top-heavy with in conference action. While I would love to see the Aggies play the best of the SEC, I hope that they can restrict it to eight in conference games like the Big XII used to be. I'm thinking that there will be nine games, but I enjoy seeing some matchups with other teams.

The Big XII is in a world of hurt now. The probability is high that the Aggies will join the SEC, and there are many other possibilities. I still think that the Big East is going to try and get Kansas and Missouri for basketball and to create some smaller distances for Texas Christian to travel. I don't know about the PAC 12; they might go after the Oklahoma schools but we'll see about that. I don't expect Texas Tech, Baylor, Kansas State, or Iowa State to be accepted just because they are close to somebody. Perhaps they could join Boise State and rebuild the Mountain West... Whatever the case is, I just don't see any way around it now. The meeting with the Higher Education Commission has been moved up a week, and there are rumors about the SEC voting as soon as tomorrow on whether or not to send A&M an invite.

Virginia Tech to the East would create a nice Tennessee/VT rivalry IMO.

Perhaps I'm off base, but wasn't there a rumor at one point that the owner of Bristol Motor Speedway wanted to hold a VT/Tennessee game at the racetrack? Something about that they never agreed to it, and it's too late now because of the permanent scoring tower being constructed.

That's been the running joke among most of the other B10 members for a while, that OSU is an SEC team in B10 country.

There's still nothing definite about this and it may turn into the fiasco that the "sure-fire" Pac-16 rumor was.
