Yeah I must have imagined the $1 billion number because I can't find it. From what I've seen, a playoff would be projected to bring in $350-400 million per year.

And how often does this system get it wrong? Do you really think tcu was better than Oregon last year?

The NFL is different than college. It's professional for one. Also, they all play in the same league and play a similar schedule. It's apples and oranges.

And high schools do not play 16 games. A high school team plays about 9 regular season games, a D2 school plays 11. An fbs team already plays 12-13 before the post season.

College Football is different than other sports, and that's what makes it great. LSU/Oregon would've meant nothing with a playoff in place, but it was a huge game. Why would you want to risk these great games so you can have a playoff?

I would say TCU deserved a shot at the NC more than Oregon. And HS teams going to the State Championship game do play 16/17 games, potentially (Varies by state)

And why would LSU Oregon mean nothing? A Better Record = Better Playoff Seeding. How often do you turn on Out Of Conference College Basketball and think 'Huh. This game means nothing at all."

I think Death to the BCS might have said $1 Billion... I can't really remember, though.

If there's an 8 team playoff, how would LSU/Oregon mean nothing?

Because you get in with a conference championship. There's no incentive to play all your guys if the outcome isn't important. Look at preseason in other sports. Those games don't matter, and no one watches them.

Maybe in some states, high schoolers play more. Up here, the state championship team only plays 13 total. But when you're trying to increase player safety, you don't do something stupid like tack on more games

Oh I get your point now. I'm in the camp that wants an 8 team playoff only if they take the top 8 teams, no conference champ tie-ins.

I'm rooting for 16 Teams, all Conference winners are in (So yes, week 1 might be FIU Auburn), but a higher seeding (Like the winner of LSU Oregon would get) means more. A 1 Seed has guaranteed Home Turf Advantage until the title game and gets an easy week 1, while a 4 seed might have to play UCF or Nevada (A much harder team than FIU) week 1, while losing home turf advantage quickly.

But wouldn't a winless team OOC that won their conference be seeded lower than a team that actually won their games? A playoff doesn't make out of conference games pointless. Sure, they don't help you get in, but they sure could help you leave that tourney early if you had to travel week 1.

Only 1 team can win a conference though. At-large spots would be determined by who you played and beat OOC.

But if there are 4 super conferences, doesn't it pretty much have to be all the division winners. I mean, how are you going to keep someone home in favor of someone below them in the standings?

Why can't Oklahoma and Texas just get together and hash out a firm commitment? If they are committed to staying long term, so would the other schools that are left. Then they can add a couple teams and keep the Big 12 running.

Because they're not committed. If they really thought that they could or even wanted to keep it all together, they would post a press release stating that they are 100% committed to the Big XII. There's a reason why these rumors keep popping up.

Besides, if the rumors that Brigham Young and Louisville are the big name replacements, I don't even know if the Big XII is worth saving.

Not if it is 4 conference champs and 4 at-large bids. This is assuming the conference championship games remain intact.
