I still think Mizzou would have a shot, St. Louis and KC are big markets that the SEC would not otherwise be able to tap into.

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
A&M is really bent out of shape that UT is outclassing them yet again and everytime someone brings it up, they throw a hissyfit. A&M will not move to the SEC unless UT goes independant, they need UT in every way. Everything about A&M is centered around a rivalry with UT, they cannot and will not walk away from that.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
The SEC has a huge following in Texas regardless. Lots of SEC School alumni in Dallas, Houston, etc.
That being said, the thought that A&M "needs Texas" is humorous to me. Texas is basically slapping the rest of the league in the face with things as they are now. They have a sweetheart deal set up with ESPN that basically prohibits Texas from participating in a Big 12 network, gives Texas the ability to have commentators fired if they say something on air that the Texas officials don't like, and it allows for ESPN to match any offer for broadcasting rights "should Texas ever go independent". *wink wink*
I'm pretty sure the Texas contract that is now available for all the world to see is the final straw and I expect Texas A&M to be heading to the SEC within the next few years.
A Texas A&M makes the SEC even stronger and gives some nice firepower in alluring Texas recruits to be able to stay home, yet still play in the SEC.AUBURN TIGERS

I wouldn't say need. But IF the SEC were looking to expand it may as well get something out of it. Adding schools in states that already have an SEC team in it brings nothing new to the table.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
Adding schools like Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Florida State (which those 3 plus A&M are the most likely candidates to go to the SEC) renews some old rivalries (Clemson-Georgia, Georgia Tech-Auburn for example). Not to mention all of those schools bring more TV viewers, etc. to the table...regardless of whether they are in a state with an SEC school already.
In addition, you are adding some very good programs outside of Football with those schools listed.
At least 2 of those 4 will be SEC Schools by 2016 IMO. Maybe all 4.AUBURN TIGERS

It isn't like this at other institutions. There may be intense rivalries but nothing compares to the fact that UT in intertwined into everything that A&M is about. I agree with you that UT doesn't care and has slapped the rest of the conference in the face, but this rivalry has always been way more important to the aggies.
A&M would have to change their identity, and that is something that they take great pride in as never changing.
*I also agree that it his humorous, but it is indeed the situation.Comment

With all do respect I don't think you fully understand the importance that UT has in the culture of A&M. A&M is a school that is built on tradition and NO school is more tied to its traditions than a&m. Literally every one of their traditions revolve around UT. Their fight song, their sayings, their whole identity is anti UT. EVERYthing about A&M is about being contrary to UT.

A Texas A&M program with an SEC affiliation would be a powerful recruiting tool in the Lonestar State, regardless of Texas's stature.Last edited by AuburnAlumni; 08-09-2011, 08:27 AM.AUBURN TIGERS

It's that kind of mentality and Texas thinking they are the end all be all in that region that will be the reason behind the Aggies heading to the SEC and giving the proverbial middle finger to Texas.

Seriously, A&M coming to the SEC would shake things up big time. Missouri would go to the B1G, along with Iowa St, the Big East would start raiding the C-USA for Memphis and UCF, and the rest of the Big12 would be looking for another home with the leftovers joining the SEC and MWC. It's freaking sad Texas could be nice and play fair, because that's a great conference and great traditions they are destroying. TCU had to join the Big East to get the BCS money (though they could have waited a couple years for the MWC to get auto-qualifying status).Comment

The SEC does not need a whiny team like Texas in it. No thanks. Although it would be fun to see them lose to Bama, LSU, etc, every season in the SEC.Comment

There are a tremendous number of LSU fans in Texas, mainly because so many Louisianians never went home after Katrina. The other SEC schools have their share of alums in DFW/Houston, but the idea that they exist in huge numbers is pure fantasy.
With all due respect, you simply don't understand the culture and tradition of these two schools, nor do you seem to have much grasp of the nature of Texas politics. The idea that the Texas Legislature would allow TAMU to go anywhere without the Horns (or vice versa) is preposterous.
The only way the Ags wind up in the SEC is in tandem w/UT--and that will never happen because the Horns look down their noses at the SEC's weak academic standards.AUBURN TIGERS
