But it is laughable. "Texas is available... but we'll just take the red-headed step child out west." Out of those three, Tech is the best, but overall of who is available, Tech is not that great. And you mention the bottom feeders of the SEC, but you have to realize, Tech would be right there with them in the SEC. They wouldn't be in the same class as Georgia, South Carolina, and Arkansas which is were A&M is liable to fall.

UT and Tech fit better in the Pac and Aggy fits better in the SEC...Austin and Lubbock are culturally more "western" than "southern"
Im looking forward to watching this new Pac 16 conference. It will be fun. Rotating the championship games from LA to Dallas and also possibly to Las Vegas sounds awesome.Comment

Gentleman's agreement with Florida will not allow FSU to get in, and well, that whole 20 million dollar buyout thing too.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Las Vegas will never host the the title game when you have Jerry World (100,000+) and the Coliseum (90,000+) compared to Sam Boyd with 40,000. Now if Las Vegas builds a stadium to compete with it, maybe, but it won't happen because A) the Runnin' Rebels don't draw, and B) they aren't getting an NFL team.Comment

LOL, so apparently if you didn't secede in the Civil War, you are not allowed into the SEC.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Wow, when I come up with divisions within conferences in the SEC, everyone rips me a new one. When the idea of "pods" takes place in the PAC, it's the greatest idea since sliced bread. I don't get it...
I actually worked with this yesterday, and figured that the best thing to do would be to make the divisions based on geography. Much like my SEC idea, the divisions would rotate every year, so that the "pod" that you played would form a temporary division, and the winner of that division would go on to the championship. Scheduling would be like the AFC/NFC Conference scheduling, so that you get a good rotation of teams, plus the stronger teams get to play each other every year. With "temporary divisions," you have to beat out your pod, plus the pod that you are aligned with in order to go to the championship. No phantom decisions, everyone plays the other team in their temporary division to go onto the championship.
Anyways, here's a link to how the divisions would line up, along with a possible schedule. Teams are ordered according to their conference records for last year.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Now I am reading rumors that WVU to the SEC is essentially a formality at this point. However, the ACC made a last-minute phone call and now wants WVU for whatever reason. WVU is entertaining the offer, but probably just to **** with them as that bridge is already burned.
Well, at least that's what some "insiders" over at some WVU boards have said. These "insiders" may or may not know what they are talking about.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Because it doesn't really work in the SEC. Hey, if I recall correctly, I didn't think it was a terrible idea. But it doesn't work well in the SEC. You'd lose too many rivalries. In the Pac, there aren't really any rivalries outside of the regional rivalries. And those that there are would still be intact - Oregon-Washington, USC-Cal, USC-Stanford, UCLA-Cal, Oklahoma-Texas. It works out perfect for the Pac 16 - it doesn't really work for the SEC.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
i dont think a semi finals of pod winners will happen. i think theyll eventually just pick the two best teams regardless of pod which is probably the best way to do it. look at the pod less like a division and more like an invisible way to schedule the 16 teams.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Because Texas Tech has made a bowl game every year for the past decade*, and that will probably continue with Tuberville. Although I see them going to the PAC, Tech is no slouch team that everyone makes them out to be. So if you're going to shoot down a school, put some research into it.
*As a comparison:
Mississippi State- 3 bowls in the last decade
Vanderbilt- 1 bowl
Kentucky- 5 bowls
Ole Miss- 5 bowls
The SEC will get Missouri, W. Virginia and another team from the East probably.Comment

This doesn't shock me. This why I have said for the longest time that you have to culturally fit in the SEC.Comment
