The only people making this Spygate scandal more than what it is are people associated with/follow other B1G schools and/or people associated with/follow ESPN. This is laughable and nothing to everyone else.

But that's the thing. I don't have anyone in this fight. I should probably not care. I have read from both sides. I actually love college football just as much as every other sport thread I comment on around here lol. But I get it. This is such either a strong thing or you find it stupid. So I get it.

So for Jimbo to get fired after a win, with two games left, A&M has to have a candidate or few in mind, right?

          Dabo? Urban? Deboer? Lanning?

Mississippi State should probably fire their coach too. Losing 51-10 to Jimbo is horrific. Their offense blows. Even worse after the Mike Leach years were the exact opposite. I know it's his first year but yeah.

...... since 2004 they've had one ten win season, three nine win seasons, and three eight win seasons....

Some of these schools need to recognize who they are and who they aren't.

They aren't going to fire him. But they will in 2-3 years. Everyone knows Mississippi State sucks in the SEC world but the drop-off is significant.

Texas A&M is still an good job. Money is no issue with their Donors, SEC, Texas recruiting base, Texas A&M has recruited well since going to SEC, NIL deals. Main downsides are that they are in a tough division and with Texas there in SEC, it takes away from recruiting.

It's still the type of job where a coach would leave their current job for it based on money, resources, conference, and recruiting base

But yet schools fought for YEARS about NIL money.

You know how you have people that always try to live above their means aka ball out on a budget to keep up with the Joneses?

This also applies to teams as well.

Feel like a coach would be better off staying where they’re at and just be comfortable.

Sure you can get paid and have a few good recruiting classes, but as we’ve seen with the last few coaches, that comes with huge expectations and if you aren’t meeting those or getting close to it, you’ll be gone and probably won’t get another major HC opportunity.

I can agree with that. But, it will entice someone. It would be better for someone taking a step up, not a lateral move. I keep seeing Dan Lanning from Oregon. I'm confused why he would even consider that. Phil Knight is willing dish out to help the team, Oregon has been recruiting well for a long while, Resources are there, they're moving to Big 10.

Fisher got fired after a 51-10 win, so there was nothing he could do to save his job. So, the expectations are super high for anyone who accepts the job. You almost have to think they have an idea of who they want to target if they make that decision with 2 games left and are bowl eligible. I'm leaning towards them wanting to poach a coach away rather than an up and coming coach.

Aside from the absurd amount of money, ego is what will draw a coach to take on the challenge. For all of the reasons illwill listed, the program, on paper, has everything necessary to become a perennial contender.

And Texas A&M has, by far, the most insufferable fanbase in college athletics - never mind it basically being a cult school. That's a different topic for another day.

So they believe they should be one of the big dogs, akin to Alabama and Georgia, and have infinite cash flow from all the oil & gas, other big money donors, alum, etc., who are willing to throw (away) piles of it to get the coach and buy the talent to ascend to that level.
