Noob Dynasty.

So this is my first go at a Dynasty. I've documented a couple of times that this is my first football game since Sega so I started on the easiest difficulty I also started before discovering this forum. I've learned a lot from you guys & thought about restarting but decided not to at this time. For my first season I'm using San Diego State.
I chose San Diego State since I was living there when I was in the Navy. Beautiful city. I have no knowledge of the team other than that they are in the Mountain West – which was another reason that I chose them. Fairly easy conference with a couple of challenging opponents. So with that said – I really don't know the names of the players. I've wondered how you guys know the names of the players on teams that you don't really follow. Do you guys just do your research and associate the numbers (HB-4,QB-12) to their names or do you guys somehow import their names into the game?

Anyway....my first game was against an FCS team and I won 6-3 in a battle of the field goals. I really should have tested the game more before I started. Next game was at The Ohio State. I scored first then gave up 24 straight points to lose 24-7. I didn't feel like I embarrassed myself despite the score. I went on to win the next - 13 including beating #18 Boise State in the MWC Championship 28-13. I finished the regular season at #11. I took on #3 Texas in the Fiesta Bowl and beat them in a wild game 35-31 . I did win Coach of the Year and ultimately had the same record as #1 Ohio State (but I know this is on Varsity mode). Most of the games seemed easy except for the teams in the top 10.

Again, I should have read this forum before trying to recruit as I have NO idea what I'm doing. I know I didn't do very well.

Of course I have some questions.
So with my first season under my belt, I ask do you guys usually keep a job for a few seasons or move on to a better job right away? I'd like to stay with SDSU for a bit.

-My next question is can I move SDSU to the Pac 12 before I start my second season? Or do you only get one chance once you create your dynasty?

-If I CAN move to that conference, should I just stay on the easy difficulty since I'll be facing more difficult opponents or just suck it up and increase the difficulty AND face tougher opponents?

I haven't advanced to the next season yet. Is there anything that I need to do BEFORE advancing?

Will I be contacted should a school be interested in hiring me or do I have to apply.

After starting QB Brock Jensen suffered from broken ribs in week 6, we had a lot of QB trouble. I then decided to play my faster player at QB, and only run option plays. It was starting to work, and I went on a I won two more games improving to a 4-4 record. Then I lost at Syracuse and at Colorado State. My last two games are at Air Force, then the finale at home against Boise State. If we make it to the conference championship game or a bowl game, then Jensen will be back. But I doubt I'll make it to either one of those.

Yes you can move to the Pac-12, at the very end of the off season. I would play a couple games on the easy difficulty and if you're doing too good then change it. I don't think you anything to do before advancing to the off season, and other schools will reach out to you. But if you wanna stay at SDSU then it won't matter if other schools offer you a job.

Alright, so we were able to pull off the win against Air Force 31-21. The bowl projections say we won't make a bowl game being at 5-6. Up next is Boise State, but if we win then both NDSU and BSU will be 6-3 in conference play, but they'll have an 8-4 record while I'm at 6-6. It was a good year but it looks like this next game with be the last. Also I was going for a new QB since Jensen is a senior, and the one I wanted committed to Memphis. Hopefully my backup, Carson Wentz, will be better next year.

Just recalling this now, I guess I played more years than I thought in the post. Anyway:

Year 1 HC GA State: won seven games including a mysterious upset against WVU (definite in-game upset logic at work)

Year 2 Offered Oregon OC for some reason. My offense wasn't exactly stellar at WVU. Really gained a ton of experience for my tree with this job because they had Mariota and everyone still. 14-0 NC.

Year 3 Texas offered OC. Took it. We went 10-3. Defense was awful, and I obviously had nothing to do with it.

Year 4 UCF offered HC job. I lucked out here because they had already locked up a 5 star ATH. I made him an RB, and benefitted greatly. 10-3 season

Year 5 Stanford offered me the HC position after two years of sub-par performances under Shaw in which they'd fallen to a four star. Again, I lucked out by coming in when I did because the starting QB was basically a Manziel Clone, and a 99ovr rated (RS) Soph (which I had never seen before). The defense was also stacked as hell. Went 11-2 and won the Pac-12, and Rose Bowl. Horrible recruiting class

Year 6 Didn't even throw myself into the coaching carousel. Stanford was back up to 5 star. Came back and won it all, and also put together an amazing recruiting class. Was pretty sure I was going to come back and start building success with my own players for once, but then Texas offered. In the end I moved from one six star school to another, so that might have factored.

It does seem that coaching roots matter too. By the end of year 6 I was a 32ovr coach, and Les Miles also retired from LSU, but I didn't get offered. Pretty sure if I hadn't done the OC stint at Texas I wouldn't have been offered.

As expected, Boise State beat us 56-31. After a 5-7 finish I'm uncertain what my future will be. We had a terrible passing game, because Jensen was out for 9 weeks and no one on my team could catch. I'll see what schools offer me a job.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going to have to change my sliders & house rules a bit too as there were NO injuries and only about 10 penalties all year.

Since most of you are veterans of this game, I see the sliders are there to assist the CPU.

Are there to some sliders to help a noob keep it competitive?
I noticed that most, if not ALL of the sliders are set to assist the CPU so that your games are competitive. Or should I just keep it where it is for now?

Even though I finished pretty bad last year, I did have the #1 recruiting class of my conference and lead the nation in rushing TD's. I also changed up the conferences, I added Colorado and Minnesota to the MWC, replacing Boise State and San Diego State (BSU in B1G, SDSU in Pac-12). First game was against Minnesota, and was not looking too good. Wentz had 3 INT's in the first half and it was 35-6 at halftime. I tried using the fastest player at QB thing again but that didn't help and lost 59-6.

I just completed my third season as the OC for the UMass Minutemen and finally hit the .500 mark finishing 6-6.

I was able to lead a SR heavy offense to a respectable showing throughout the year. My play calling improved and my QB decision making was a night and day difference from the year before. I still found the ground game a hard going as I just do not have the OL and the talent at RB currently.

As for players, I saw a big spike in QB play by my SR QB, as he tossed the ball around to three SR WR's who were the playmakers on my offense. I plugged in a FR(rs) TE, J. White, who was an upgrade in the blocking department over my starter last year, and JR(rs) RB Bedel became the go-to guy on the ground.

My offense is taking a serious hit going into my fourth year as the OC with the graduation of four players who really carried my offense the past three seasons.

During the off-season I was offered the OC position at East Carolina and after much thought and deliberation I decided now was the time to make the move up to a bigger school with bigger challenges and more opportunities. I finished my three year stint at UMASS as the OC with a record of 12-24, but saw my team improve two wins every year. I am taking over a team in a tailwind (1-11) but am confident that I can turn around ECU like I was doing with UMASS!

I think you should just keep it how it is. Wait until you're pretty good at the game before you use sliders.

I am in the 3rd season of my golden gophers dynasty, and after getting a great prospects to commit to Minnesota after a 38-34 comeback win over Oklahoma state university in a bowl game, there looked to be a ton of upside. i guess i was wrong, as the 1st play from scrimmage and the first ncaa pass attempt from true freshman Kyle Pruitt was intercepted. so far we only have 1 passing TD compared to 4 rushing TD's. we are 3-5. i am looking forward to developing puitt as he was a 4-star prospect as ii was scouting him

I think there are two routes that get you into the upper echelons of coaching. Either be a coordinator at a big school (five to six stars) at some point, or build a school up as the HC. I think you are most likely to get hired by schools with like star ratings. I might argue the quickest way is to be a coordinator at a big school, because you can leap to three/four star schools more quickly than building a school up.

For example: Coming from 6 star Texas as their OC, my best HC job offer was three star UCF. After one season I built them to a four star, and four star Stanford offered me a job. Within two seasons there, Stanford was back to a six star, and Texas offered when Brown retired.
