Then 2k should go ahead and make the fully customizable football game. If the franchise mode was better than madden which we all know it would be I would buy it. Gameplay wise madden is only a couple of years ahead of where 2k was 12 years ago. It took ea years to make longshot. In that time 2k could make a football game from the ground up. It comes down to a business decision from a consumer perspective it would result in options and force madden to make a better game. From 2k's perspective it would force madden to improve their game which would make more people buy madden. At that point they must feel that their game without an nfl license would be a loser.

Yeah. You, me, and the handful of dedicated sim gamers out there. That's not enough to offset the time and resources it would take.
I wish they would go the crowd-funding route. Get consumers to pay/donate BEFORE the game is made. That would greatly offset the prohibitive costs involved. The downside is, a company like take two, which owns rockstar, going that route: they would get TORCHED by everyone not interested in that.Comment

I'll be honest, I could not stand to watch any Whole gameplay video. Out of frustration. So can I PLEASE just ask if what I saw, is correct. For those that did suffer through. Looking at alot of replies on the threads, I fear I am.
Every video looked like arcade. Passing looked more accurate then ever. The cpu qb, still just stands there. And stands there. Waiting to get sacked? Coverage was horrendous?
I did see that Rex replied about coverage having yo be tightened up. Geez, ya think?

2k already tried that once. While the game was excellent (best playing football game I've ever tried), the sales were mediocre. People want the NFL and all that goes with it..so unless a miracle happens and EA decides to give up exclusivity, we are screwed. No sense even thinking about it, tbh.

And do you honestly think EA would let that slide, since they've paid billions over the years for the license??
It would open a whole can of worms, and cost them more than it would be worth to them.
I want it just as much as the next guy, but let's be realistic, it is never going to happen. It's a 1 horse race, and appears it will stay that way as long as EA has deep enough pockets.

You know... If they just released that game without the legends, with an updated 2k5 franchise, with fixes for the bugs. Don't even touch the graphics. Just fix the franchise bugs, and use apf models and the like. Add the NBA 2k player editor. That would be enough.
I wish they would just do it. Takes very little resources, since they already have it all in house.
Release that and see what happens. Just call it 2K Football. See if enough people buy it to justify actually working on introducing new graphics and the like. Add in an online league interface. Allow leagues of 16-20-24-32 teams.
I would give anything to have Dan Stevens and Peter O'Keefe calling the game I'm playing again!Comment

When exactly is EA Access again? And is that the 24 hour timed trial thing? And is that 24 real time hours or 24 hours of playing the game total? Like I could play 3 hours a day for 8 days?
Sorry, I'm a novice when it comes to this.Comment

The 17th? And it's ten hours of timed in game.Comment

They wouldn't need a ton of buyers to make that worthwhile. Building a game from the ground up, yes. Using what they already own the IP for? You could likely do it with one or two programmers. If 5k people buy it, and they charge $40, that's $200k. Easily profitable. Don't bother with discs. Make it digital only to streamline the process.
If they did that and it worked. They could make it like the golf club. Do in game content purchases for graphics upgrades, new features. Etc.
That is the only viable method for us to have a competitor at this point. And it would likely be profitable. But profitable enough for take two to engage in? Doubtful.Comment

No, it wasn't FULLY customizable. But as mentioned earlier, 2k would be cutting their own throats if they DID release one with enough adjustments to replicate an NFL game.

Unfortunately, 2k is too big to do it. It will take a small hungry company to give it a go. Sometimes you can only take on a goliath with a david. That license is such a big barrier for an established billion dollar comany to take the risk. If they were to sell their game to a smaller company to run with it would be awesome.Comment

Also, if you like the game and want to play more you can easily just pay another $4.99 under another nickname and get another 10 hours. Usually for Madden I get 20 hours total.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

It's a barrier for anyone. The exclusive covers likenesses too. Hall of famers sued EA for having their jersey numbers and basic height weight info on teams without payment which is why Madden doesn't do historic teams anymore. Backbreaker wouldn't let you use any current or former NFL player name. Even something like Rod Smith.
There's too much money involved in the exclusive. The NFL and EA would sue any successful developer that makes a football game with NFL likenesses or the ability to create if they can. It's not worth the risk for any company big or small.
Mobile is the most open market to compete in. EAs license doesn't cover mobile, but we saw how that worked out with Joe Montanas game.
Until the exclusive ends, which isn't likely anytime soon, we won't see developers of any size attempting football games.Last edited by kjcheezhead; 08-10-2017, 03:21 PM.Comment
