2k can still make a football game if they want. Just not an NFL one. If ea had the license for the sport itself then yes, that is a monopoly. But this a different debate entirely. Not for this thread.Comment

Let's not go down the OS monopoly hole again and again because it always goes down a rabbit hole, no doubt, on cue.
We won't see any changes to the landscape until the NFL does away with their current business model.Comment

Yeah, it's just something that particularly annoy me. It's monopoly-like, I'll give you that. But the NFL is a private product and the NFL can control what they do with it, even if the majority of us fans, myself included, don't like it.
As I've said before, anyone can make a football game (such as APF2K8) but they just cannot make an NFL game. I look at it like people don't say Coke is a monopoly despite them being the clear market leader and having a product people love. Anyone can make a soft drink, they just can't make Coke.
Same type of thing. It's an exclusive, it's not a monopoly.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Yea, let's not have the discussion of whether or not it's a monopoly. Don't mind so much the discussion of competition but we don't need to have the discussion of the definition or application of a monopoly again.
Thanks guys, still a really good conversation.Comment

Re: Only 2 1/2 Weeks to EA Access and No Gameplay... Concerned?
Most people in the community have been frustrated that we haven't seen any real gameplay from Madden 18 yet. To this point I've been bummed about it, but now I'm starting to get concerned. With less than three weeks to go until the EA Access release I'm wondering if there are still too many bugs in the game for them to release footage. There does not seem to be a good reason to restrict the footage this late in the process and that is making me concerned that they aren't going to be ready for the release in two and a half weeks.
Thoughts?
Because if the hype train escalates like I think it will (due to the lack of any footage so far), then they'll keep doing it. I would prefer if no one buys it the first couple of weeks, so EA will reconsider this delayed advertising.
In other words, I don't think there is actually any problem with the game causing this delay.Originally posted by Therebelyell626I am going to create a team called "the happy town fundament rapscallions" and hurt your already diminishing image

The only thing I'm concerned about is if their "less is more" advertising campaign actually works.

At least Rex has a sense of humor about all this:
Oh word? I'm always the last to hear about these things. Happy Wednesday everybody!
Can't wait Rex!!!!!!!
Me too! Hope the strategy of having it come from some of the top creative minds in our community works out. I have a good feeling about thisComment

As someone who writes software for a living as well, this post wins the internet today as far as I am concerned. It's very difficult to please everyone. Quite frankly, it's impossible. However, if you care at all about what you are creating, you will ALWAYS pay more attention to the people who are the most critical. Telling me that every design decision I've made, every implementation choice, etc. I've made is the greatest thing ever doesn't help me make better software. Personally, while those are nice to hear, it's total BS. There's no such thing as a perfect design or implementation. The people who complain the most are often the ones who care about your software the most. That's why they are complaining the way they do. They WANT your stuff to be great, and it means something to them, therefore, it should mean a lot to you as well. Sometimes those complaints don't come through in the most mature or or kindly manner, but the point is that you learn to look past the noise and get to the meat of it.
There's a lot that I want to add here, but I don't want to stray too far from the intent of this thread.
Great post, Rebel, and it's refreshing to see other people out there actually "get it".Comment
