Great question mate. The answer to your question is; It doesn't matter. The star system in this instance has nothing to do with repetitive plays showing up.

Here's the solution: 30 plays per-situation must be installed in order to combat repeated plays from showing up. If you print up my original gameplan, you will notice that I copied situations in such a way to work around this. In critical situations, 3rd/4th/2min, I want only my best 12 pass plays up and want to find them quickly without the repeats. That's why I suggest copying all running plays to this situation so that they will take up the rest of the 30 play count, so repeats don't occur. Of course, I call plays under the Run or Pass windows, rather than Coach Suggestions.

The only exception is that ONE PLAY will repeat to take up the play square of the previous play called, which disappears until another play is selected from that specific situation.

To completely avoid the workaround I've described, I wrote in a suggestion @ BETA that would allow us to select up to 30 plays per-situation, rather than have to in order to prevent what you are experiencing from happening. They did a nice job of finally working on this feature, but it does need refinement so it is more user-friendly.

Yes. Just remember that, no matter how you decide to set up your situations, you must assign 30 plays or you will see some plays repeated, while others omitted. You do not have to set up your book the way I did. Just showing as example. Good luck and let me know if you need further help.

Do you have to run all the plays in exhibition or anything to get them to show up when calling plays?

Not in 20.

19 and earlier, you did need to call them once each (Exhibition was usually the easiest way to do this), but that's no longer necessary.

This is one of the improvements they (finally) made in 20 that has some of us nervous about the proposed play lockout system.

Edgevoice. Thank you for your detailed information. I am back playing Madden after a 15 year hiatus. Amazing the amount of changes. I have figured a lot out, but am having trouble with saving my offensive audibles. I'll install my custom audibles at practice. only to have them disappear when the game starts. No idea what I am doing wrong. I am playing in franchise mode but don't have the yearly PS4 membership. Does that make a difference? There is a line in your OP "after you switch to this book in your CFM under coaching schemes". Could you please elaborate on that? I am surmising that is where my efforts are failing.

I would be very appreciative if you could point me in the right direction. I love using my own audibles, as well as hot routes. Being able to set up a way to keep them would make the game a lot more fun.

You have to set them in your playbook for them to save.

Hello everyone, I read the entire thread, and it's great to see there are people like me who want to make their own playbooks and the like. My wife thinks it's pretty nerdy, and I agree!

So I encountered an issue doing slow sim cpu vs cpu in my franchise mode. In the second season, I got more serious about adding plays and deleting plays to refine the game plan based on personnel. When I did so, a strange glitch happened. My team now punts the ball on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd down about 4 or 5 times per game. I've gathered that many of you are actually playing the game, but hopefully you can help me fix this.

My suspicion: I have too many plays. I've downloaded a few playbooks and looked at the team playbooks. They typically have 20 plays assigned to 1st down, 2nd and long, etc. I have far, far more than that. I started a new franchise and used the regular playbook (Cowboys playing as Cowboys) and the punt issue didn't happen once.

I'm thinking of simplifying my book entirely, taking out redundancies like the same play out of a different formation, and limit myself to 20 plays from a more limited number of formations. Do any of you know if there is a formation limit I should be aware of? I think I messed up by adding more formations to vary the personnel when I run plays.

Only just reading through this thread now so hopefully some of its contributors are still around and able to help me.

I’ve set up my playbook and gameplan according to the instructions, and everything seems to have saved fine. My only question is does it matter how many plays I assign 5 stars, 4 stars, etc, and do you have to rank them a certain number of stars to be included in the gameplan?

I understand that I have to rate a minimum of 30 for the gameplan to work correctly. However, when I played a game there were only around 10 plays in one of the situations (2nd and long maybe) despite me ranking more than 30. Naturally there aren’t many plays for 2nd and long so I didn’t rate many 4-5 stars, but I ranked plenty with 1-3 stars. I assumed that any play with a rating would show, but do only the 4-5 starred plays show?

Also, I naturally have a lot more plays for 1st down than 4th and long. Is there a rough guideline of how many plays should be in each situation (should I limit it to exactly 30?) and how I should distribute my ratings?

With this in mind, how does the CPU use my ratings to select, organise and recommend plays for me? I’m guessing they don’t just put the 5 star plays at the top every time? How often will I see my lower rated plays like 2-3 star plays?

Can you help please, I have created my own playbook (Madden 21), adjusting the audibles and choose my own "My Game Plan" which took time but was a process i really enjoyed. What i am unsure about is how to use this game plan during games? Can someone tell me how this works as i am unsure because before this i have only ever used a already created playbook.

Can i check please, as I have for the first time created my own playbook and included 26 plays in each situation in the "My Game Plan" section. During games I used the enhanced play calling system, but I am unsure on how to call plays based on this created game plan. I am probably missing something simple but could you let me know how this is possible? Thanks I appreciate your help.

To some extent, you can. Make sure that once you create your custom playbook, you must select that coach's book in CFM under scheme. That way, whatever formations that are a part of that book will allow for you to use formation subs. However, any formations that you've added that were not originally part of that playbook, will not allow for formation subs to stick.

I would suggest going through the available base playbooks and selecting the book that best represents the formations you want to use. That way, formation subs will be the most effective.
