What they really should do is what they had in NCAA which was the mascot game mode... adding mascot versions of cartoon characters wouldn't be such an egregious misstep for EA if it was an addition to a good part of another franchise that they kept as part of Madden.... like scouting and other great things from NCAA that would of easily held their weight in Madden 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 & 21...............

My 5 year old is obsessed with Spongebob. He's gonna absolutely love seeing and playing this.

Furthermore, if you're taking a video game "personally" , maybe it's time to stop playing said video game. IDK lol

I had never considered the possibility of Spongebob Squarepants actually appearing in Madden. Which, if that’s the case... sure why not. Madden and the NFL at-large is often very zipped up and taking itself way too seriously. Let’s just all relax a bit, agree that this is ridiculous, laugh with it, and enjoy it for what it is. Or don’t, in which case - please let other people enjoy things.

I'm not sure I have seen anyone that is not letting other people enjoy this...

I don't really get the whole idea that keeps being tossed around that people aren't aloud to be frustrated that resources from the only licensed simulation football game have been devoted to a cartoon character though. People have their right to be happy about it and people have their right to be frustrated about it. I don't see why people feel a need to control what other people think about something. This is a forum where we all share how we feel about Madden. Some people like it. Others don't. Why is that an issue all of the sudden?

So what was the EA dev team going to do with those resources that they instead devoted to adding SpongeBob to the game?

In other words, what did they take away from the core game/gamer and say, "hey instead of doing __________, lets add SpongeBob to the game"?

For all anyone knows all the plans for future support of Madden '21 have been planned (franchise updates, zone patch, additional patches) and they had this idea brought to their attention or however it happened and decided, "we can add this without sacrificing our plans"

People act as though they are purposely not doing something in favor of adding this character to the game. When in actuality it could be that this was added to their plans.

Nobody knows if they dropped something. With what we're seeing NFL Network do on Good Morning Football to integrate Nickelodeon it's far more likely that this was in their plans from the start. If it's mandated by the NFL, it is what it is.

Regardless of how this came about, my frustration is that the game on next gen has some glaring issues that need to be fixed and I would rather the team make the game we have more playable than add a cartoon character. I get that not everyone agrees and I'm psyched for Gosens' 5 yr old son who is gonna be pumped about this addition. That's awesome. For me though, this is a bit frustrating.

It’s a spongebob themed version of the game so not the actual presentation we’ll see in the normal broadcast.

It’s basically a cartoon version of the actual football game.

I'd be surprised if the NFL cared or knew anything about Madden besides the bottom line. The NFL doesn't know anything about videogames. The game sells and makes money. They know the Madden brand is extremely popular and well known. And from their optics I'm sure Madden looks like a fine representation of the NFL.

If you're the NFL why care about anything else?

I might have to check this out out of curiosity lol. I guess this could be cool for parents that want to watch the game with their kids. Almost a way to trick kids into watching something their parents want to watch. But I don't know, if I was a kid and turned on Nickelodeon and saw a football game, even with a cartoon theme and presentation to it, I'd most likely look for something else to watch. Especially in this day and age where kids can just put on Netflix, Youtube, or another app and watch something they're more interested in.

It's not like years ago when whatever was on tv was basically all you had to watch.
