Re: Madden NFL 22 Scouting Report Update Available Now - Patch Notes

I didn't see this, but to confirm, with an ONLINE franchise you do NOT have to start at Week 1 for the new scouting.

I quickly started a franchise using the real rosters/stats. Then simmed to Week 7, and the new scouting system was in effect (regions, scouts, etc.- all of it). You'll want to change things around (so you'll "lose" the focused scouting you would have gotten before Week 7 and only benefit from what the CPU set-up for you), but this is great for those wanting to start a franchise picking up as close as possible to IRL w/ the new scouting system.

It's ready to go, and you can jump to Week 5 IRL with the new system still in place.

This seems like a lot of effort to go through to learn... not all that much more than we had under the old system (I do like that we know traits, but only a handful of them have ever really had a noticeable impact for me). He had a WR at almost 60% scouted and unlocked literally zero of that WR's key traits. He had a linebacker at 99% completion but didn't know his tackle rating.

This to me feels a lot like the coaching staff addition. It's technically the thing we asked for, but the execution feels really off. I won't really know till I get a chance to play around with it myself. I don't like being a naysayer, but this does feel disappointing given how much I felt like I was going to love this update and how long we waited for it.

You can always still use the legacy scouting if you keep your old franchise, you don't have to use it. Real GMs don't know everything about a player or how they will pan out, so I like the variables vs a cookie cutter clicking three boxes and knowing if they are a bust or not. I will literally never complain that anything in franchise mode is "a lot of effort", because if that's how you feel this update wasn't really for you. Some of us want a more immersive experience.

But either way it sounds like you're calling it a disappointment based on watching a youtube video and you haven't played it yet.

I'm curious if it'll be early 80's where the red numbers were a bit darker than later 80's, or if it'll be the latter. And I'm sure they'll have the correct sleeve stripes on them.

The 80's look is my favorite look for the 49ers, so I'm very glad to have both home and away finally. The 98-08 uniform era was a decade worth forgetting, but the 1998 season still had some very memorable moments so I've been wanting those back for some time. It'll be fun to bust them out for "special occasions" in my little NFL universe.

1998 season is still so special for me because it was the last Dynasty season. When I tie those unis to that season, I actually like them and I am instantly flashed back to how Madden didn't have them in Madden 99 and it was the 97 white pants versions When madden finally got them in the cardinal was always off to me and the gold pants were never metallic enough. The end of the dynasty and Steve laying on the field in Phoenix really sullied that look for me. I was so happy in 2009 when we went back to the dynasty look. However, seeing Owens going nuts in 2001 and 2002 with Jeff makes me like them more and I do know I will use them in certain games.

Responding to earlier posts, I always tended to mix in the black pants from time to time as a change-up.

I'm very excited about the new face scans as well, someone posted a pic of Lance and he looked really good. I won't be home for another 9-10 hours, so I just have to depend on living vicariously through others lol

I play every game, including preseason...along with evaluating my rookies, I enjoy mixing in uniforms they'd never wear lol White jerseys/black pants, black on white, red jerseys with black pants, etc. I'd do ridiculous combos for the cpu too, makes preseason fun.

Oh man, I remember the disappointment of firing up Madden 99 and seeing the white pants...the first 3D polygon version of Madden and the pants were wrong, meanwhile Gameday had them correct if I recall.

1998 was truly the last hurrah of excellence...Rice & Young doing their thing, Bryant Young & Ken Norton Jr on the other side. The Catch II. I do love the 98 season. It didn't end with a SB, but it was still a good end cap to nearly 20 years of dominance & hall of famers and record setters.

Just so no one gets confused, you DO have to start over completely online or offline, for this change to take effect.

I only replied to your post because I have never seen anyone ask if they had to start week one for the scouting to take effect, only if they had to completely start over period.

One solution would be give only tangibles of the less scouted players, but show their collegiate stats so you could make a better decision based on stats
Thing is, I didn't always draft the studs either. I would sometimes miss terribly on QB's, and I was ok with it. If they never progressed like I wanted them to, cut them and moved on.

I'm talking about later rounds. You have what, 3 scouts and a national? That national is focused on the one glaring need that you have, the others are just getting what they can, here or there. You never get to dabble into every position.

Say I fill my needs in the first 4 rounds, and I want to just fill tiny holes at WR,HB and hell I just wanna get an extra corner, all of that with my last 3 picks. Issue is, I didn't focus on those positions at all because I needed to fill my biggest needs. Now I'm just blindly choosing players based on a small mixture of tangibles, hoping it pans out. Legacy, dare I say was good on this cause it kinda gave you a picture of where some guys would be in the later rounds.

Does anyone know how far the mock drafts go? Is it just the first round?

It doesn't "sound like" I'm basing my opinion on a YouTube video. I literally said "I won't really know till I get a chance to play around with it myself" and "in Bengal's video."

I don't mind putting in "a lot of effort" if the payoff is worth it. My point is that it feels more than a little silly for a scout to have unlocked 80% of a cornerback's profile and have no idea how good he is in zone coverage, or 99% of a linebacker and have no idea how he tackles. If that's immersive for you, then I hope you enjoy the update. That doesn't feel immersive to me, but I'm still going to give it a chance.

Don't twist it like I'm just a casual gamer that doesn't want to put in any effort in franchise mode.

Not to be "debbie downer" but my expectation was that this new coat of paint on scouting was going to be grey rather than fire engine red. I've read where some say its a carbon copy of NHL 22 scouting system. They cant seem to invent anything new or do a total overhaul of any broken modes or featues.
2K gave us MYNBA for NG which was a gamechanger and its obvious that EA refuses to do anything thats "shock and awe"

Played around with it for a season. I like it, however they didn't touch draft logic. Jaguars took a QB 1st overall and the jets took a QB with the 3rd pick...
