Yeah I've tried that the last few years and it just hasn't worked for me. Too much funky stuff that will make me pause the game and debate if I even want to keep playing.

Sliders don't completely fix it and they never will, but it mitigates it. When I can get the gameplay to a place that's fun, challenging, and at least sort've close to what we see on Sunday, I'm happy.

I think the only sports game I've ever been able to put in and play without messing with sliders is The Show, but I do mess with the rosters heavily there as well, so does it really count?

I really like the base that EA has to work with for 24, it may be the closest we've gotten to having great gameplay OOTB (though that may change, hopefully not). For me there's still just too much that makes my eye twitch. The things that I know I can't change, I don't bother, but the things I can, I want to.

I guess the phrase "have to" is the wrong way to say it. I don't have to, I choose to, because it helps make the game better for me, for what I'm looking for out of it.

It's impossible for me to play any madden without changing the sliders

For example on any level of madden if I leave the human qba slider at default 50 passing is way too easy for me.

If I play with run block at 50 again that's way too easy for me on any level.

I would love to fire up the game and just play but every year madden has over powered offense for the human player

I mean, I agree to an extent that there's only so much one can do if you know Madden like the back of your hand as many on this board likely do. Users always have access to their entire playbook regardless of the experience of their personnel (there's no concept of putting together a gameplan), users have access to far more audibles at the line of scrimmage than a real quarterback does, hot routes as they exist in Madden have no real-life analog and are wildly overpowered, the ability for the defense to disguise its coverage is extremely limited making pre-snap reads nearly automatic except in very specific cases, the match coverage library available to use is extremely limited (and in Madden 23 none of it was available to the CPU), there's no such thing as a creeper blitz or read blitz in the stock defensive playbooks to attempt to confuse pass protection schemes, etc. etc.

At the same time... yeah, I assume you would have to lower the user QB Accuracy slider if you play the game with the CPU pass coverage and pass defense reaction time sliders both set to 0.

Please do not interpret this as a skill level call out or slider set author criticism. That is literally not my intention whatsoever, and I don't even know if those are the sliders you yourself used this year. Rather, what I'm getting at: we can likely reasonably agree that the default CPU zone defense reaction times in Madden 23 on All Madden difficulty were downright punishing. Those aggressive reaction times were literally the only element of the gameplay working in the CPU's favor when opposed by the passing offense of a skilled user who simultaneously possessed X's and O's knowledge, a mastery of the available gameplay mechanics of Madden, and an awareness of the game's CPU play-calling and behavioral limitations. Reducing the CPU pass defense sliders at 0 is likely back-breaking for the CPU pass defense in Madden 23 given all the other advantages the user passing offense enjoys. Whether or not those twitchy reaction times were "sim", there was a totally valid game design and game balance reason justifying the CPU pass defense reaction times in Madden 23 being tuned as aggressively as they were out-of-the-box.

On-topic: given that the set of coverages and options on pass defense for both user and CPU defenses remain basically unchanged, I'm hopeful that the improved CPU quarterback AI observed in the Madden 24 beta helps CPU teams stay competitive. If nothing else, a better CPU offense should help keep the pressure on my user-controlled offense to perform.

I really enjoy the minigames though they broke the camera with the passing ones for this beta period. One thing I'm really torn about is the fact that you can sim them and still have a chance to get a gold on them. Users can get rewarded for being bad at them if they skip them and some of them are really hard. They really should make all rookie dev traits hidden with how easy it is to unlock their dev traits now. With the coach skill to instantly unlock a dev trait and now drills giving major boosts to snap count to unlock them you can know any and all dev traits before you get out of the preseason. We're almost back to how it was before where you knew their dev traits instantly. This also leads to more XP gains since you can get more once you know their trait. Or hide rookie ratings beyond a letter grade until you hit the snap count threshold.

I thought the Hidden dev trait was basically the same as X-Factor wrt how much XP it takes to earn a skill point for player progression?

To that end, using training camp drills on Hidden dev rookies is quite possibly a suboptimal idea if their trait isn’t Superstar or X-Factor; you’ll actually decrease their progression rate if they are only Star.

2nd thing will be to edit down the Break Tackle for “80” RB, as it seems to be more sensitive than prior releases.
                  - McCaffrey broke 3 tackles in route to a 63 yrd TD scamper in the 1st QTR,
                  - ended up with 14 carriers/164 yrds, 5 catches/58

I specifically edited a couple Def players Hit Power to “95+” & they are unloading on Off Ball Carriers/Catch Knockouts

OVR I’m l really liking how the game is playing out with this.

That was a crazy game. The Vikings actually came back and won 48-42. Barkley had 205 at the half and only finished with 243. So the Vikings defense shut him down in the 2nd half. I also saw one of the prettiest catches Madden has ever produced by Justin Jefferson...wish like crazy we could share videos. I also saw a Vikings receiver put a Giants DB in skates with a spin move en route to a score that looked so natural. Overall, I love the pace and flow with the Speed edits. I believe I can shore up some things with sliders. Gonna watch again in a little bit.

So after a bit of research they get the same XP as a superstar player. So it does make sense to delay uncovering star players as long as you can. But that in itself seems counterintuitive. Either way it's now way too easy to unlock rookie dev traits and it should be adjusted somewhere. Also I think now hidden rookies should get normal or star progression while hidden. So that's a new thing I get to complain about. Lol

I'm trying to play more of the beta now and I think I'm just burnt out at this point. My enthusiasm for the game and the release has dropped dramatically, even though tbh the gameplay itself hasn't really changed much (at least that I can tell) from the first round of the beta where I couldn't get enough.

The game feels good, better than 23 in most areas, but at the same time there's just something that feels off, if that makes sense. Maybe it's the legacy issues that always crop up, I'm not sure. But I'm probably going to forgo the rest of the beta.

Agreed. As I said before, one needs a degree from M.I.T just to attempt to play these games. It makes my head explode.

Ratings either matter or they don't. Let ratings and A.I determine gameplay, not these arbitrary sliders that no one knows what they do, if they even work at all.

Or, have a sim mode and an alternate arcade mode. The latter could have sliders galore.

Unfortunately, they're too steeped in their methodology to change that, if that makes any sense.

It's not that Madden is irredeemable. The issue is the company's approach to making the game. I've even heard a former dev say as much.

Doing away with slider-nomics would be too radical, too outside of the box. Madden is many things - a radical, envelope pushing, outside of the box game is not one of them.

It wouldn't be radical, it'd be dumb. It'd be like a restaurant doing away with condiments. No matter what Tiburon does with ratings and AI, gameplay will never be one size fits all. Sliders are a means for players to tailor gameplay to their individual skill levels, perception, and preferences. While the problem is the lack of documentation on exactly what the sliders do, the only envelopes that eliminating them would push are pink slips.

This kind of gives incentive to do like Kyle Shanahan and banish most rookies to the third string until the end of their rookie year.

I kind of want to see if there is a meaningful difference between PS5 and PC, but then I already have a PC code. Still, it's been around three hours and no one has asked for it. I don't want to be too greedy though...

If no one asks for it in a day, I'll be glad to take it off your hands to see if PC and PS5 have major differences.
