Ian, I noticed adding more camera modes will be planned as a contingency from reading the blog. Can we feel any certainty that custom cameras will finally be included in Madden '10? Many have been waiting for years.

For the most genuine love of the game, how many gamers would enjoy having & trade "unlockable Historic and/or Hall Of Fame Players & SB-Teams[accurately named, numbered, stats, attributes, etc.], Coaches[stats, Off/Def Playbook & Play-Calling Styles], Stadiums[fan effects/impact] --vs-- the WACK & NEVER USED cheat Gold, Silver, Bronze [waste of creative game design space] things like "Fumblitis, Stone Hands, Couch Potato, etc.
How much more TRULY ABOUT NFL-love-of-the-game are unlocking access to PLAYERS like Walter Payton, Lawrence Taylor, Jack Lambert, Joe Montana, Dick Butkus, Deacon Jones, Warren Moon, Jerry Rice, Jim Kelly, Tony Dorsett, Roger Staubach, Lynn Swan, etc...? Or HOF COACHES with their coaching schemes like Tom Landry and his Defensive Linemen in the "Flex Formation" Marv Levy and the "Run-n-shoot" Buddy Ryan and his "Dominating 46 Defense" Bill Parcells' "Smash-mouth Running" styles... Joe Gibbs Singleback Counter Trey, Vince Lombardi Sweeps, Hank Stram
...and if you guys can't or won't do it [design it into the game], then at least build the capacity into the game wherein "the brighter entrepreneurial types" like myself can collaborate with you in business to create "Aftermarket Memorycard Accessory Items" that can be purchased with the same features & benefits. I am sure beyond doubt that countless other diehard gamers/fans have an occasional desire to Fantasy Draft, Trade, Risk, Build/Manage a Franchise Mode that includes the same and similar Players, Coaches, Asst-Coaches, Custom Playbooks User-vs-User, User-vs-CPU, and even to view CPU-vs-CPU Season, Tournament, Franchise and or Play Now ability.
No valid excuse NOT to add these Madden NFL Type features versus "create a fan" type things. EA Sports has more than enough resources to expand any necessary NFL Hall Of Fame licensing agreement, including an agreement for use of Historic NFL Player's Names & Stats (even if you have to think outside the box [or expand a new one] by creating a benefit for past NFL Greats who gave so much to develop the game we love today... from the additional profits of using their names)....WR's and anybody else should be TERRIFIED to run through the heart of any Defense that I had anything to do with!!!Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: Customization
Now that we have speed differential sliders, I will be able to enjoy the added challenge of the All-Madden difficulty without having to deal with any speed cheating by the CPU; seeing that I will have the option to choose a more "sim-like" speed.
I understand your position as an online gamer and I hope it all works out for you guys, but I game offline, and this option is something that has the potential to greatly enhance my gaming experience.

All you have to do is play online a few games, go to or watch the countless number of Madden tournaments and you'll find out immediately that the casual player neither has any concept of sim nor do they care to know.Comment

Re: Latest Madden NFL 10 blog: Customization
^^^ I'm being serious... wouldn't just getting a defensive stop be the answer? The clock reference seems lke a variation of how teams will sometimes say "we didn't lose, we just ran out of time".
I remember people saying that the Patriots left the Giants too much time on the clock in SB 42. I don't believe in that. I feel that the defense has to make a stop no matter what the clock says and if they give up points it's the defenses fault. When you look at late drives in real life where defenses choke like the Patriots did, you often see several plays where the defenses could've ended the game, just like the Patriots had about 5 opportunities to do so on that last drive and blew them all. It's not the clock, it's the defense not making plays in the clutch.
Are you being serious with simply getting the stop? I guess you are because you stated your seriousness. How many times do you see a team down, deep in their own territory, and the defense is playing loose giving them anything underneath because they dont have enough time to take those plays all the way down the field? How many times do you hear the announcers saying how they keep taking the underneath passes but they dont have enough time to move the ball down the field this way? Multiple games every single week.
we didnt lose, we ran out of time. well they did lose...but they did run out of time. the defense did what it took to keep them from scoring BEFORE TIME RAN OUT. with 1 min no acc clock being like 3 or 4 min of a regular game, you are basically saying 'take the end of game soft/loose defense mentality out and force a turnover or turnover on downs.'
same goes for the patriots...sure they could have made some plays to end the game. but guess what? they have to do what it takes to keep the giants from getting a td before time runs out. Less time makes it much easier for the defense.
'make a defensive stop and not worry about the clock'...WHY HAVE A GAME CLOCK?????? Might as well play the game with a set number of posessions for each team.Comment

LOL. You seem angry Joet. Be coooooool man, everything is good
I have no disagreement with how time can often change playcall decisions to a large degree. I've experienced this firsthand on the field in real life myself. But that doesn't negate the fact that no matter what, the expectation is that you work within that on defense, make plays, and get the defensive stop.
When I played football, I played defensive end most of the time. We had a lot of games where at the end it was up to us to stop the opposing offense and secure a win. That was our job. It didn't matter if there were 3 mins left or 30 seconds left. We had to stop them, anything less is unacceptable and no one is going to accept any excuses when you blow a game late like that. We always did get the stop for 2 seasons... except for one game.
In the one game where we failed, we gave up a late TD on a drive that started at the opposing teams 4 yard line. We lost. When we hit the locker room the coach exploded on the defense for not making the plays we needed in the clutch and he was 100% right. I didn't leave the field that day blaming the clock or anyone else but myself, and I think the rest of the defense did the same. We had no excuses, we just didn't get it done.
Yes, the clock is important, but you can't blame the clock on not being able to make a defensive stop. You have more of an argument offensively if you don't have much time left, for example I don't think anybody expected Brady to move the team all the way down field against the Giants with 35 seconds left, but you better believe that everybody expected the Giants to stop the Patriots from scoring with 35 seconds left.Comment

'everybody expected the Giants to stop the Patriots from scoring with 35 seconds left.'
Exactly, not because the Giants were expected to make a big play or force a turnover. They could play a loose coverage and give the patriots anything they wanted underneath because there wasnt nearly enough time to score moving the ball that way.
At no point was I blaming the clock for letting the offense score in the scenario I gave in the first post. The point is that in that situation, with no acc clock under 2 min, I am not playing defense as if there is 1 minute left. I have to play it as if there are still a few min left.Comment

I somehow did a button combo and prematurely submitted my Reply.
I'll finish...
INJURY SLIDERS-Excellent. I do agree that having a slider for Injury Frequency and a slider for Injury Severity would be cool, but having an Injury Slider at all is great.
User vs. CPU Gameplay Sliders-Thank you for bringing these back.
Game Speed Slider-Excellent addition, as I to have felt that Madden play has become too hectic and it's hard to follow the gameplay. I'm slowing that baby down now. Great!
Pre Game??!!-While not totally understanding what this will be, if it's anything like what 2K5 did, this is GREAT news. Presentation Presentation.
Leverage that ESPN license, guys! Potential great news here.
I play strictly offline Franchise and I'm very encouraged by this blog, Iain. What it really comes down to is giving us the ability to Customize pretty much the entire gameplay and presentation to our liking. We're all going to see things differently (example-my Auto Replay will always be on OFTEN). I've been hammering for this one for years now.
I've been playing Madden for 20 years and have become quite jaded since it's introduction to the 360. Dare I say this year may finally get us to where we should have been 4-5 years ago??
A sincere thanks to Iain and Team for listening to us.
I'm going to add one more thought/request from your Team to consider, and I've plugged for this before. If at all possible, please enable some POST PLAY ACTION a la 2K8 where I can come in with a late hit and get flagged for it. The continuation of play was so cool in that game and it would be great to have in Madden. PLEASE PLEASE.
Thanks again, Iain / Team
Great progress.

I checked the new Madden NFL 10 website. They mentioned a brand new animation system. I know they said the same thing last year for Madden 09. But they also said something about the QB being able to avoid the rush by stepping up in the pocket, dragging a defender towards the first down marker, and fighting for a fumble in a pile-up. A pile-up!
God, I know its April Fool's Day, but don't joke around about this. Let your will be done...jWILLComment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: Customization
Originally posted by crackdownjrthis is probably the dumbest post I've read today (along with your others in this thread). Obviously the defense has to stop the offense but how does that take care of the problem that joet6683 stated? Under 2 minutes, team run no huddle to save time. In Madden, it is just as quick to go back to the huddle and call another play and in the case of 20+ yard gains, it is actually quicker to get in the huddle. They need to fix this problem... saying "You have to stop them" doesn't do anything and frankly makes you sound like a douche.
I won't respond directly to your insults because that would do nothing for me personally, plus they weren't rough enough, lol. You've gotta try much harder than that to make me angry .
My advice to you though--and this goes beyond just internet message boards--is that you should really focus on approaching interactions in discussion groups with others in a mature and respectful manner at all times. The opposite is unproductive because it detracts from the chief goal of building in whatever capacity that may involve, and it will make people view you as uninviting. You want to instead be open to discussion, listening, and constantly contributing, even disagreeing, in an inviting position without attacking. This is how--at least ideally--you gain favor within groups and ultimately gain people's respect, which will allow them to be more open to the things you have to say when you express.
As far as this final minutes issue... the reason I've responded the way I have is because I really don't see this as a problem for me, not because I don't understand what he's saying. I thought I'd made that clear, but perhaps not quite clear enough.
The reason is that I've rarely ever given up a TD in this instance, so for me it's not a real problem. That's my opinion based on my experience with the game (which actually dates back to the late 1980's) and I'm entitled to it. If I'd experienced the same issues, then I'd have to agree but I haven't. I usually get the stop. If the way it works out in those moments is an an issue for you personally, then I can certainly understand your frustration and it is valid for you, but you have to consider that not everyone has the same experiences, same issues, or views a situation the same way... and that doesn't make them or their view unworthy as a result, it just makes them different.
