    I can say this with a great deal of confidence, but if a handful of us got together to discuss this we would nail it.

      When was the last time you guys feel like ratings actually mattered? Would we have to go back to last gen?

        Not neccesarily true. You can have a 99 rated DE. Best pass rusher in the game. But if his strength and power moves are only average, he will only be average or worse against a power running team. Take Simeon Rice for example.

          So bad teams should play better than they are? Or good teams should play worse than they are?

          I'd rather go 2-14 as the Browns if that's how bad they play than go 8-8 because the game made the Browns be average instead horrible like they are in real life.

            The point is if the players attributes and ratings really mattered and were accaurately executed in the game, a realism setting would work perfectly.

            Games would be unpredictable. Right now levels of play only offer the obvious.
            Which is on all madden all teams play much better than they are suppose to and on rookie they play horrible.

            If you have a bad team is simply because your team is less talented, so in order for you to win you really need to execute a great game plan. Now I do not care how good a team is, but every team has some kind of weakness, and if you call the right plays at the right time you have a chance.

            Also at a start of a season when they rank the teams. How many times does the number 1 rank team make it to the superbowl? Not many, so that says a ton, and the play on the field matters not rankings.

            The game is decided on the field and by the execution of the plays. Now one thing that has to be in the game is morale, so if your start winning these games and your players are doing better 2 things happen. They get a ratings boost, and the morale of the team gets higher. By morale rising they play with more life and energy.

            A wining attitude spreads and can do wonders for a team, and the same for losing where it can destroy a team.

            Every year we come across new teams surprising the fans and the league.

            Panthers did not fair well where many thought they would, and the Jets surpassed many expectations to be as solid as they were. They did it by playing great defense , and running the ball. They also kept the passing game at a minimal and very basic for Sanchez to reduce his chances of making errors, becauses when they did try to open it up for him he showed he could not handle it. The coaching staff adjusted

            Another example on who calls the plays called make a huge impact. NY Giants were heading into the season with what many said is the best defensive line in football which can help tremondously in having a great dfense, and due to the fact we had a new coordinator the Giants had a horrible defensive line which led to one of the worst defense the giants ever had. They morale fell and they did not make the playoffs. They have a ton of talent but with bad coaching comes bad performance and bad execution. Morale fell.

            My thing is I want to do the same if I take a bad team. Can I coach well enough to beat better teams. Can I make them a winner by scouting a teams weakness and exploting it, by simplyfying my gameplan, and winning the time of possession.

            Or can I screw up a good team by not being a solid coach. We need this in the game.

            I think this can only be done if there was a setting that told us that under this level your playing with the players true attributes and ratings. That this level here is to represent the NFL as it is in real life.

            Now that would be true simualtion NFL Football

              ONLINE FORUMS are ruining gameplay.

              There will always be that individual or small group of individuals that will argue to their death that "so and so should never happen." "This defies the laws of physics." "How can you even think this is a good idea?"

              Most individuals who buy sports games are jaded and unable to be pleased.

              They could take each and every one of those that have issues with the game, fix them to their liking and you'd see someone else step in and say, "This sucks, how could you make it like this."

              It's a cycle that seemingly will never be broken now. And it's extremely sad to see.

                But, that's the idea of Franchise Mode. Build your team up, like your real GM never seems to do. Besides, the better team doesn't always win. That's why the play the games, as they say. Perhaps your scheme is better than the real one (for instance, I certainly run more than Big Red with my Eagles). For me, what's the point on Franchise if ratings don't matter. On the other hand, I have never understood why folks who play online want ratings to matter at all - wouldn't they want a level playing field?

                  I agree with the ideas in your whole post - but this part is key.

                  I would go so far as to say the default sliders should be set to achieve this. So all 50's is modern NFL stats with guys performing close to what they did in their last few years (take a 3-year average or such).

                  Of course, this means the engine HAS to get rid of all the suctions, sliding, warping, etc. If a guy can't get there, he can't get there. So be it.

                  And then make the players smarter at least at the basic level (i.e. don't just watch while a rusher runs right by you to hit the QB or HB, stuff like that).

                  Once that happens, I think then you can start finding this level because you aren't fighting the engine and it's "tricks" at the same time as trying to get player performance right.

                    I'm with pared on this one...2k had flaws, Madden has flaws. MVP had flaws, The Show still does....

                    All I ever usually do is tweak one or two things. For instance, I turned down blocking by cpu for Madden, and turned up my pass rush...that was it. I thought it was a fun game anyway. I just make a couple generic tweaks and play the game. I don't know too much about football to know OMG my linebacker misread that!!!

                    I just say "how'd that guy get there." And keep playing.

                      I have contemplated this very thing. If a player plays to his skill ratings why are sliders so needed. It seeming more like a safety net then anything else. But I have gone back and forward to myself with this.

                        Most individuals who buy sports games are jaded and unable to be pleased.

                        They could take each and every one of those that have issues with the game, fix them to their liking and you'd see someone else step in and say, "This sucks, how could you make it like this."

                        It's a cycle that seemingly will never be broken now. And it's extremely sad to see.
                        I see what your saying , I do feel that if your happy with a game your not really looking to go into the forums to express your happiness. Your busy playing the game, but if your unhappy your heading full steam ahead into the forums to express your unhappiness.

                        Thats is why you will see more negative post that positive.

                        This is why for the small group that wants to add ideas to help the errors should post in the fourms and not worry such of those that constantly complain, because in the end its the bottom line that matters is SALES!

                        Im a developer Im looking for ideas and suggestions, and not take the negative to heart, but analyze it to see if it does need improvement. Now this is what im doing if the game is not selling well.

                        The Show is awesome , so I would have a whole different mindset when reading the forums.

                        Exactly why have sliders if the attributes and ratings are accaurate to thier true to life abilities.

                        If they did it correct then a different set of sldier might make sense.

                          I think sliders in M10 are more for the engine than the player ratings. For example, QB accuracy might not impact the QBs actual accuracy (i.e. how often he misses/how much leeway the human has in tming), but when he misses, just how much does he miss by. That's more an engine thing.

                            So I suppose if every hitter was capable of hitting 95 HR in the The Show - that would be okay?

                            Perhaps for you, but I would say that's unrealistic. And I would ask, why they thought having everyone hitting 95 HR would be a good idea, and yes, I would argue that it would be a bad idea.

                            How would that be ruining gameplay?

                            I don't believe Gamers are ruining gameplay. Gamers have always had different opinions about the same game. It's not like that just happened and suddenly gameplay is getting way worse.

                                You were talking about gamers and forums ruining gameplay. Mentioned questions like "why did they make it like that?" "How could they think that's a good idea", "So and so shouldn't happen" etc.

                                I don't think those questions are ruining gameplay (which my example attempted to show - by using your own questions).

                                If you want to say I'm talking about ratings - fine - but ratings help drive gameplay.
