Re: Madden NFL 12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)

I might not be used to madden after not buying 11, but man it seemed like everytime I dropped back with Cutler there was pressure from Matthews and one of their lineman. In a game I played last night Matthews had 6 sacks.

Visually this game looks great, I like some of what I am seeing, I already had planned to pick the game up. Listening to the OS radio show, I hope that the guys were right and this is a demo build that was farther behind than the E3 build, because I liked the things that they said were in the E3 build. I'm looking forward to this game once again. Haven't really felt that way since Madden NFL 10 which I thoroughly enjoyed.

It's too easy to run with the QB and when I was playing the bears blocked a field goal and started running it back. I tried to catch them but when i pushed the left stick towards the runner my player ran the opposite way...really confusing.

In general, I think the whole super LB/passing arch thing is worth a discussion in the near future. We're so quick to point and blame the passing arch -- I wonder if it's as awful as we've made it out to be.

I think Madden 12 is pretty good, but why doesn't the recevier attempt to jump to get the ball while throwing the deep ball?

And i think the juke move is useless this year

Re: Madden NFL 12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)

I haven't chimed in and want to give my two cents.

First off, the obvious. The graphics are unbelievable. I was in awe of them, especially combined with the presentation. That really struck me because my problem with past Madden's is they never made me immersed in the game. The presentation never felt true to an NFL broadcast, and it did the game a disservice as we'd never see close-ups of these amazing helmets, faces, jerseys, etc.

I was also impressed with the crowd noise. They got happy at the right moments, angry at the right moments, and loud at the right moments. I think it could be a bit better, but I was certainly impressed.

I didn't see any short replay problems. I'm on the PS3.

Something I didn't like was the stats. Too few and far between. No stats at halftime. Only a stat or two after touchdowns. I feel so not connected with how my players are doing from a statistical standpoint.

The passing needs a revamp. Someone else said it like 50 pages back and it's true. There's not much flexibility when it comes to the passing. I'll see a linebacker in the middle of the field. See a WR five yards behind him, and when I throw it, my intention is to throw it with velocity OVER the LB. You just can't do that in Madden, because the LB with super jump. Plus, I want the ability to be able to place balls in certain areas (back shoulder, low, etc) to avoid a DB, but it feels like when I throw it, the ball doesn't go where I want it to go. It's like there's no grey area with passing--it's either a fast ball or lob, a complete pass or an inaccurate, incomplete pass.

I need more time with the demo, but those were my immediate thoughts.

the juke is really hard to get down, this year its all about timing, you just need to time it right. there have been times where i failed, and a few time where i made the defender slip.

Re: Madden NFL 12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)

I found the demo to be rather refreshing. There are still some legacy issues that have made Madden next gen a frustrating experience, but it is a MUCH improved game. The one thing that concerns me the most is the defensive line. I played 3 games on All Pro and Julius Peppers was non existent. Clifton stoned him on every play. It's Julius Peppers we are talking about here. I know Clifton is good, but Peppers should be able to get some pressure. I even tried user controlling him and he could not get anywhere near Rodgers. 4-3 teams have always gotten the shaft in Madden because the DEs do not get upfield and put pressure on the QB. It forces you to bring all kinds of pressure on every play resulting in blitzes about 85% of defensive plays. The defensive ends need to get more pressure. Especially elite ends like Peppers, Tuck, Allen, etc... I REALLY hope this gets tuned. I played 3 games and Julius Peppers didn't record a single tackle. Mark Toeina got like 6 sacks instead as a defensive tackle and Ryan Pickett was abusing Garza. The defensive tackles should not be the ones getting pressure on the QB. A great season for a pass rushing DT is 6 sacks. In Madden, your DTs get 3 or 4 a game. This would really ruin the game for a lot of people if it's not fixed at release.

Clifton blanked James Harrison in the SB. Not saying you're wrong about the game not allowing DE's to get enough pressure. Just saying that in the real NFL, I'm not surprised to see Clifton equalize an elite DE.

I'm not criticizing your Madden DE comment in any way. Just making a statement about the real Clifton.

Madden 12 sucks!! Why, do people continue to buy that crappy franchise? I haven't bought the game in 4 years and will be going on 5 years. It looks the same, it plays the same as it did 4 years ago. Why? Madden is banned from my home!! EA needs to get their you know what together.

                      Hey Bucky,

while I agree that Clifton is a beast, Peppers is a top 3 end in the league. He should be able to get a LITTLE pressure. That's not as concerning as the pressure the DTs get. My defensive tackles should rarely get to the QB. I'm not saying never, but in one of my games, Ryan Pickett had 4 sacks. That's just ridiculous.

Played my first game of the demo, All Pro, I used the Packers.

                        PROS:
-Graphics and presentation are both finally up to par.
-Gameplay seems to be a step in the right direction. There are still the same typical 'Madden' issues, like certain plays almost always being more effective than others (Slants).

                        CONS:
-Scrambling w/ Rodgers for me was too easy, and I echo those who are worried about Vick cheesers, particularly online. Just seems like QB speed in general should be toned down, b/c I could run at will w/ Rodgers, which is not a good thing. Once or twice is fine, but the CPU should adjust and be able to stop it eventually.

-CPU AI still seems to be bonehead at times. Bears (CPU) down 4 /10 sec left, 1 TO left, 2 & long at their own 40 or so, and they run a draw play and have to use their last TO. And then 3rd and long w/ no TOs and 7 sec left they run a draw again. Don't know what that was all about.

I'm still torn on this game. There are definite improvements but there's still a feeling of 'meh' for me. I did like it better than the NCAA demo, which I didn't like at all. Will wait and see what others think before deciding whether or not to buy.

EA could make a virtually perfect and amazingly fun game and there are guys who absolutely REFUSE to give them credit. Oh well....new Madden, same old complainers.

I totally agree. I also found in previous Maddens that the LE gets most of the DE sacks while the RE gets ignored. I completely agree with you. I was just saying that Clifton is pretty good and equalized some elite DE's. I wasn't trying to disagree with your Madden DL pressure comment. I agree with you.

The OL/DL needs a huge overhaul. The lack of good player interaction is a base/core issue (most of the interaction is 1on1) and it seems the way the game indicates a player is better than another is to simply have him block for a certain amount of time then let the defensive player go. Or whiff entirely. I don't see the benefit to having great OL/DL if the interaction is done on such an elementary level
