Hell the NBA 2k series some would say has gone down the same road Madden has over the last few yesrs but at least they have a really good franchise mode.

If Madden were truly truly as horrible as everyone who hates on it makes it out to be....we wouldn't be having this discussion because we probably wouldn't even know it exists.

Do I personally have my problems with Madden? You bet I do. Do I wish there were features and things from older Maddens in the current ones? Yup. Should Madden be in a better place all around than what it currently is, I know we all can agree on that as well. I find ways to enjoy the game regardless.

But Madden is NOT some dupster fire of a game. People just look for any reason to hate because it's the "cool" thing to do. And if they took that vitriol, and turned it around....I'm not saying the game would be better, but I think people would find something to like about it.

I wouldn't say Madden or its gameplay is a dumpster fire. It's just largely stale, unimaginative, and driven by a corporate structure that really only wants to do the bare minimum to keep people buying the game while maximizing the return on their "loot box" business model.

Madden has gotten old for me and I barely touch it anymore. I wouldn't say it's a dumpster fire. It's okay. Just okay--and it's been mostly that level and variety of okay for a while.

          Re: Its NFL Playgrounds, right?

I wouldn't call Madden's gameplay a dumpster fire either. I always preferred NCAA because at the least it had better atmosphere and recruiting. So I skipped most of the Madden 7th gen. So when NCAA stopped, I didn't play a game until a couple years later. I ended up renting Madden 16 late and thought gameplay "wasn't bad". I wanted to buy 17 and 18 but lack of Franchise improvements swayed me away. But from 16 on, I would rent Madden for a month before other bigger games came out because gameplay "wasn't bad". For me the main problem with Madden's gameplay is that it was built off a poor foundation at start of 7th gen. Imo, The 7th gen was the dark ages for Madden and they never recovered. The transition to 7th gen was bad from the pre-launch. First it was the Madden 06 CGI "In-Engine" trailer disaster lol. But the main problem was the approach EA took to 7th gen transition. The EA Sports titles essentially stripped everything and built games from ground up on the fly. Whereas 2k built off the 6th gen engines. 2k8 game engine was an improved version from the 6th gen. We are still dealing with legacy issues from 7th gen like poor OL logic, dice roll outcomes, poor player interactions. For me, Madden needs to take a step back and build gameplay back up and vastly improve AI.

For whatever 2k is planning, I hope one of those games takes from what 2k8 and 2k5 had. The 2k8 gameplay still dwarfs Madden after 12 years. Gameplay and AI is the main reason.

Does it seem pretty obvious that the "non-sim" game will likely be an NFL version of the Playground series.
dont' really gamble but would bet on NFL playgrounds too.....but heck, just offer what madden doesn't (which is quite a bit), they'll have a winner.

Madden is the only game with bugs? I mean, there are many valid criticisms that can be made about any game, Madden included... to hold up what is obviously a bug as an example of 'bad gameplay' doesn't really help the argument you are trying to make.

The Madden series has an unrepairable bug, it's called the stale legacy bug where everyone runs the same and where the gameplay has not changed significantly in the past 15 years!

My statement was a response to reed1417. Madden's gameplay is a dumpster fire. Its an arcade game being passed off as a simulation. You can chalk it up to a lot of different variables, the fact is the gameplay at its core is broken.

Madden doesn't allow the user to scheme offensively or defensively, any fundamental knowledge of football you may have is useless. Not one Madden over two console generations (heading into a third) holds up to APF 2K8.

In the 2K forum if certain buzzwords or other anti madden chestnuts are mentioned there isn't a productive conversation to be had so there is no point in engaging.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

We'll have to disagree there friend. Again if it were truly TRULY a dumpster fire nobody would be buying it. There's plenty of bad games out there that play horribly but (in my opinion) Madden isn't one of them. And believe me, I'm not gonna sit here and defend Madden to claim it's the PERFECT game cause it's not. It's far from it and it has bugs, glitches and problems like any other game. But I think it does some good things. It definitely doesn't do all the things I'd like it to from a gameplay perspective, but yeah I'll have to disagree and I probably should have used "in my opinion" on my first post so as to not speak for everyone.

If this game is like NBA 2K Playgrounds, then it will probably not be worth the effort. But if it is Playgrounds, but adopt a more SMB take on arcade, it could be flipping amazing.

I'd be ok if it was an NFL Playgrounds style of game. I'm not a football gamer anymore (I've quit Madden completely at this point) but my general sports game interests have started leaning towards the arcade side rather than the simulation side. I'd probably end up checking it out if it is indeed the case.

Either way, it'll be nice to have an alternative on the market.

This thread will be fun to look back on in a few years.

I would be happy with any type of football action. Playgrounds would be fine. My fear is an NFL themed Candy Crush game.
