This may be useless but that Insomniac leak for some reason has sales numbers from 2004 and you can see how Madden 05 and NFL 2K5 did in sales.

They did that with all pro football, and it didn't fair well.

I for one want the NFL license and NFLPA. Everyone just needs to stop hoping EA will lose or give up the license, cause it won't happen. They make too much off of microtransactions, and with that they will have deeeeep pockets.

EA and T2 have virtually identical market caps ($37B to $27B) and share prices ($135 to $160). NBA 2K also involves themselves in microtransactions, GTA V DLC is still humming, and in a couple of years when the license comes up GTA VI will have already come out.

If they are willing to make a run for it, they'll have plenty of ammo to step up with, and it can either become one of two things: (1) an all-out bidding war; (2) a shared license.

In the world of choosing partners however, 2K needs to provide reason that merits why the NFL should be in bed with them. They need something to come out before that, probably even two products. Upfront money is great, but obtaining money through that license is sweetest, and name brand reputation will also be important. EA may be making them money, but their reputation is in the crapper. Don't think they won't care about that when all else is equal.

I hate microtransactions as much as the next person, but if this helps keep them in the hunt to claim the license in 2026, I'm willing to bite that bullet.

EDIT: And I say this often, but All Pro Football was not the answer to a generic game with all customization options. Even modders can't address the wacky stadiums, shoddy presentation, and small uniform numbers. This is also a way, way different era where people would be more accepting to that kind of game, but things like franchise needs to be in as well (fingers crossed for Euphoria physics too). I'm not saying this is the ultimate answer, but APF 2K8 also wasn't a proper output for that kind of answer to begin with. Great X's and O's with familiar 2K gameplay, and that's essentially where the buck ended.

Finally a legit point of view. EA is not the end all be all it once was.

If 2k makes a run for the license I think it’ll be shared. 2k bought an exclusive mlb license back in the day and it was a disaster for them. Yes mlb is not the nfl but I don’t think 2k wants to do exclusives after that experience. They had another opportunity with the NBA and passed on that as well. Financially, the leagues take too much of the pie for 2ks liking when it’s exclusive.

Also as much as the NFL likes exclusives and how polarizing EA is, there is an entire generation that only plays madden and truly hates whenever Madden does attempt to change its arcadey gameplay. Locking EA out in favor of 2k would be a PR nightmare for the NFL way worse than anything that happened when 2k lost the license.

As for APF2k8, I really think it’s was just testing the waters. Madden 08 on the ps3 was awful. Truly awful. Yet 2k gameplay couldn’t even make a scratch in sales against it. That told the suits at 2k there was no money in a football game without the NFL. Yes, franchise was non existent, customization was weak and they spent way to much signing players that hadn’t played in decades. All that mattered was great gameplay wouldn’t compete with a truly awful NFL licensed game.

              Agreed with the above.

Only thing I wanted to state was that 2K's MLB license allowed first-party developers to still make games, which is how SCEA was making The Show for PS3. Microsoft could've been making more Inside Pitch games if they wanted to, or partnered with EA to make MVP games.

2K baseball wasn't ever perfect, but it was actually my preferred series during the MVP run. Then they had a three-year plan with Ben Brinkley which spiraled in 2K8 (despite fantastic pitching, hitting, and fielding control mechanics), and Kush was dropped as a developer in favor of VC for 2K9 and onward. Real-time presentation was an awesome introduction (which all sports games should be doing, just like real-time physics), but the buck stopped there and they took the series in an unappealing direction for the generation while The Show stayed stable.

Sorry to spiral this into a baseball gaming conversation. The point is they never had a clear vision and they threw it away, only doing it to spite EA. Hopefully they are attacking the NFL license with an offensive mindset rather than a defensive one.

Seems like they taking any NFL scrapes they can at this point and that's very unlike. 2k to go the Arcade route especially if you looking at the numbers from NBA playgrounds/Battlegrounds
We even stop hearing about that wild card football already
2k failed to realize those games(NFL Street )were only Lit because they were other football games available and those kids grew up
The new generation is the ADHD generation with way more choices of games to play

2k better knock this arcade game out the park or else they gonna be financial trouble with the nFL

Fingers crossed that this is the year we can get an update. It'll be 4 years since they signed that contract man...time flies. It'll also be 20 years since 2K5 released symbolic or not I hope something happens this year.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but I don't get the logic of the title of this thread. Would the 2K company experience some kind of pressure to release information because some thread was opened on a gaming website by some random guy?

This is generally how forum/discussion site's work.

After 2k was out of the football business, we completely eliminated the 2k section.

Once the news of the agreement was made, this forum was created.

The thread pretty clearly indicates that despite the forum being brought back, no new news has been shared which is frustrating for many.

No, there isn't a person here who thinks ANY thread they make is going to influence the decision of any developer.

It's quite literally a way to generate conversation (which is has successfully done).

The context of the thread title is actually quite obvious actually.

At this point, I'm just living as if this was quietly killed off by Take-Two. I really would love to be proven wrong, but the radio silence is crazy at this point.

A partnership with the NFL doesn’t seem like a project that can just be killed off. I’m not an expert in game developing by any means but the NFL overall has never cared for any products quality. Slap the logo on it and put it on the shelf. If it doesn’t sell, the manufacturers take the hit for a crappy product, not the NFL and the NFL still gets its cash. They will expect 2k to put something out or pay the NFL for the agreement anyways.

I don’t know, maybe Wildcard Football was enough to uphold the deal, otherwise I still think we will get a game of some kind at some point.

I'd love for them to shock us at this point, but the simple way of looking at it for me is that Wild Card football had bigger plans and it went into a development hell so to speak and they passed it off to Saber and the rest is history.

The fact that 2k/Take-Two have said nothing else about this game since they announced their partnership with the NFL, and that just about zero leaks have happened regarding the game, especially in the last couple of years, it just comes off as a project that is no longer active.

I think that’s very possible. On paper, most die hard football gamers will tell you they just want something new. Any game not made by EA. In reality, when a football game drops, it’s rejected. It’s too arcade, not customizable enough, franchise mode doesn’t have x. In the same way apf2k8 probably was planned as an entry game to a franchise, Wildcard was built for sequels with more features to be added. When these games underperform that’s it.

Like waiting until Days Gone was free to check it out and then wonder why they won’t make Days Gone 2.

When Ronnie 2k first made the announcement on Twitter
The fans at first got so excited me included until we realize its going to be a arcade game and then the excitement got deflated 😕
I bet you that wild card was just testing the waters and people already stop talking about that game

If you read this 2k if it doesn't work out with the NFL please go the maximum football route forget the license just make dope gameplay with a dope franchise 🙏
