Re: This NFL 2K forum has been opened for 2 years and 2K has not even thrown us a bon

I mean, if we just take this thread and it’s title at face value, gamers not so emotionally attached to 2K football would say, “It looks like 2K is making a football game for a different demographic, and really doesn’t care if anyone visiting this forum buys it or not.”

But this is looking more and more, to me, like the NFL and Lego worked out something, then brought to Take Two. Maybe 2K used that leverage to get a non-Lego game out, too. And if that’s the case, I would bet it is a MyTeam inspired release, heavily supported by microtransactions.

Honestly, for the competitive gamer, this possibility could be huge, as it would be the first time we see UT type modes compete head-to-head, which could lead to more player focused changes as they compete for enough marketshare.

I mean, what if 2K releases NFL MyTeam 2K, and it launches without microtransactions for a year. At the very least, gamers would have a choice of where to spend their money in these competing modes.

The huge downside of 2K succeeding could be the end of any franchise mode investment, if 2K can make money without one.

There is zero chance there is any sort of franchise mode, customizable or not, that will allow you to recreate the NFL. Period.

The NFL Players license doesn’t have to be arcade, only the NFL license. 2k says it has multiple games in development. The thinking is that 2k could remake APF2k8 with real players and generic teams and use the NFL license for an arcade title(s).

Technically that’s a possibility with the info we have but I agree. I think there is zero chance the NFL would be onboard with 2k making that game. For another thing, this game got delayed because the NFL and 2k couldn’t agree on releasing before the season or during the holidays. If they were making another APF they could’ve released when 2k wanted

Yep. EA is paying a HUGE premium for whatever their exclusivity includes. 2K cannot give that away without compensating EA in order to get them to sign off.

EA cannot make a Lego game, and once that got revealed, everything made more sense. The NFL uses their games to market the NFL, and Lego is perfect. Despite being a toy, Lego appeals to a wide age range, and will attract more female fans.

My wife is a huge Lego fan, as she is damn near done with the latest Star Wars game. She doesn’t play any racing games, not even Mario Kart. But she played Lego is FH4 for hours and hours.

And if 2K was able to leverage that into a second game that will drive massive microtransactions, they would jump at it.

There is zero chance that 2ks first game is going to be Lego either. That’s wishful thinking by Madden fans that just want to dump on anything 2k. 2ks first Lego game is soccer and will release in November. Then racing, then MAYBE NFL in 2023 but that third title is unannounced. 2ks first game will release before the 2022 season because that’s what the NFL wants

I really don’t give two ****s when it is coming out. I said there is a chance 2K leveraged the Lego license for NFL into card game where they can sell virtual packs. So yeah, that sure as heck might come out first.

And seriously? Madden fans? Dude, you you are the one fanboying it up here, as though EA is evil and 2K is your knight in shiny armor.

The only reason I got into console football games was NFL 2K on the Dreamcast. I boycotted EA after 2K lost the license.

Eventually, by Madden 15 or so, it was clearly a better game than 2K had ever been. I’ve been enjoying it ever since.

But I really would love a new 2K game. But I worry more about games that actually exist than ideas of games that might exist in the future.

            So?

Honestly, we don't know what simulation means in the context of these games and we haven't know for the past 2 years.

It could mean non-simulation (arcade, 7 on 7 etc.) gameplay with the ability to play a typical 17 game NFL season. Or it could mean hyperrealistic gameplay in a strictly "MyTeam" format. Fact of the matter is that we don't know and are all making educated guesses with some wishful/realistic thinking.

I personally think it's going to be some souped up version of Playgrounds/Battlegrounds with both a standard Season mode and a MyTeam/MyPark mode. Every little (and I mean very little) indication has pointed that direction.

It is true that we have no idea as to what simulation means. We've been over that 100 times already.

I've assumed that the game is going to be some card collecting game. Best case scenario is it is a standalone game structured like MyTeam. Worst case scenario is it's a Playgrounds type game.

I could be completely wrong, but that's simply what I expect.

I'd love to be surprised and see that the simulation limits were not as restrictive as we thought and we get a game that's as authentic on the field as 2k8 with NFL teams and players, but I just don't expect that at all.

They’re weak AF for not even throwing a bone. Absolutely nothing.

I think there’s potential to make a fun game. I think people have money to spend but there needs to be a different or alternate experience.

I loved All Pro more than all of you, It’s irrelevant though because it is what it is. I don’t think it really matters and I don’t think 2K cares either.

How are you quantifying this? Serious question since you seem pretty confident.

The gaming industry doesn't work like this. They don't just "throw fans a bone." Everything is strategic and they market a game when they feel it's time to start marketing it. These are billion dollar companies.

I don't understand why people don't get this.

Alright, let’s play this out. Let’s imagine they release three screenshots this week. Everything else is the same - game isn’t ready for release yet, no details are shared, they’re not asking for preorders, etc.

You’ve been thrown a bone. What changes then?

I would be happy with a damn name of the title. This way I would at least have an idea about what type of game we should be expecting. If the name is Bobblehead NFL 2K or Lego NFL 2K then it will be way over the top arcade as opposed to a more subtle arcade game. For me a perfect example would be NFL Blitz 7 on 7 was over the top arcade with the leg drops, on fire animations, and exaggerated player models. Whereas Tecmo Super Bowl 11 on 11 was more subtle arcade in the sense of the over-inflated stats, the ability to throw from one end of the field to the other and exaggerated breaking tackle abilities.

One Day before the Draft, let's hope we hear something tomorrow night. For a game that was supposed to be ready to release last year, why not release any information on it and let us know what type of game it is? It's just odd how the game was ready to be released a year ago but 2K doesn't want to release any information on it. So was the game not ready last year which caused the one year delay?

Right now Take Two's fall lineup looks pretty weak. Aside from the usual NBA 2K and WWE 2K they have a Marvel strategy game announced and that it. They tend to announce their stuff in May usually. If we don't get anything between now and then we're not getting a proper announcement this year.
