Re: Dear APF Dev Team....wheres the defense?

The LB's are a joke in this game sometimes and there is no denying that. You are forced to play one style of defense and that is pick corners, 4 man rush and that is it. The linebackers are useless unless in a 4-3. Plus many a time The top defensive players just don't make tackles.

I have to say I play more against the AI than online. Usually you can stop players online because they run the same play over and over and once you stop their money play its over.

However when playing against the AI on Legend, it literally can be an excersise in frustration. You can not stop top backs like O.J.. To be honest Campbell has really never given me problems. Its O.J. that kills me. I can stop Barry, Campbell and others but O.J. is unstoppable in this game.

Plus running the ball on others can be very easy if you mix it up and use shifts, Audible flips, swings and other stuff since I use Otis Anderson (Giant). I have rarely been stopped. I ALWAYS win lose or draw get at LEAST 100 yards with Otis every time.

5 minute quarters should not produce numbers like that. The backs are overpowered.

Has anyone stopped your running game, cause few if ever stop mine even if i'm behind. I have had more success comming back from behind with 80 yard touchdown runs with Otis than throwing the ball to Ditka and no one can stop my Ditka.

Doc, to help you along with further understanding the point in this whole thread please go back and read my posts and the OP posts. I think you will find out that everything went over your head. I only mentioned Earl Cambell while the OP mentioned Earl and other legitimate concerns. I anticipate that you won't look back at the posts either and fail at that. No one's bringing up anything about someone lying or their W-L record online. Sheesh...

See, playing online....I can put together a pretty good offense. In playing my season offline tho........

I can't get anytime to throw. The AI has Reggie White on my Ron Mix and White just beasted him. The running game is really hit and miss too......I use OJ and a good defense can run him down with the quickness. I can't understand it.

Re: Dear APF Dev Team....wheres the defense?

Heck yes, Earl is overpowered. Oh, and the more you use him, the stronger he gets. Thats why he's a staple of my teams.

Okoye isn't much easier to be honest. He's another workhorse thats good for at least 3-4 yards with each carry.

As far as I can tell, blitzing doesn't work. So, I don't blitz. I run a 3-4 with three starred D Linemen and a MLB with Signal Stealer. The LBs play a zone where instead of immediately getting stuck on a blocker, they back up for a second and see the play.

Its been my experience that alot of online players give up on the run if they don't have immediate success. They find that Barry isn't quite Superman so here comes the passing game. And thats fine with me, one less thing to worry about....unless they also have Ditka.

Anyway, I suggest running 3-4 zones, adjusting the DLs based on which hashmark the ball is placed. The 4-4 is (in this game) more of a short, red zone defense to cover against out passes and RBs who bounce outside.

Re: Dear APF Dev Team....wheres the defense?

Id like to ask some of the people here if they've ever watched an entire football team for a whole season.

Just for those that havn't....teams do NOT switch between the 5-2/4-4/4-3/3-4 all season long. Why? It isn't neccessary as any defensive scheme has pass defense and run defense incorportated into it.

Teams don't go "Hey, I know we are normally a 4-3 team but we're facing Earl Campbell this week so lets go 5-2". Doesn't happen.

Even more importantly, I have people in position to make the tackle, to make a play on the ball and so forth. The offense is so good they can't. This is a problem. There is no defensive player as good as Campbell/Rice/Marino/Ditka or some others. Regardless of how successful you have been, offensive legends has been made better than the defensive legends.

Nobody is saying that you're wrong. But with the D you're playing(4-4) it seems like you don't even give yourself a chance. You should have to double cover Jerry and you have to know that Earl is probaly going to break the first 1 or 2.

Campbell is frustrating to play against, but I've learned to contain him online. Using him offline is a different story(can't get anything going with him).

That statement alone proves it. If this is supposed to be a sim, that alone makes this game arcady. There has never been a runningback in the history of humankind who is expected to break 2 tackles every run. Wait I'm wrong, forgot about mr ricky williams from nfl2k4. oops

Did you ever see Earl Campbell in a game...for a short period of time he was almost impossible to bring down alone.. He ran through EVERYONE..He was just that damn good

Maybe. It does suck, I agree though. In NBA2K7, the best sports sim in a long time imo, you can virtually dunk with Kobe every position. Madden 2003(which is still the best game in that series to me), Faulk was like Jesus......this year in NCAA every fast QB and RB. There always going to be overpowering players that you can exploit.

Luckily, I've been able to contain Earl multiplayer wise.....not letting up the big play and getting decent pursuit. Ironically, I can't run against the CPU with him for anything......he gets stopped cold too many times.

This game is a little ridiculous, but yep he was a beast. He took so many hits because it took ALOT to bring him down....talking about a constant pounding by multiple defenders on most plays. Led to a really short career.

It's a videogame that simulates Legendary players in their PRiME. Before they were injured... Before they had run out of gas... Before the drugs... Before the court cases... Before the nasty divorces... When they were at their BEST on the FIELD. When they were BEASTS that could not be stopped. When they were MONSTERS that could not be stopped. When they were SUPERMEN who could NOT be stopped. When each and every one of them had the potential to have a CAREER DAY on ANY GIVEN SUNDAY. That is what you are up against every time you take the field in All Pro Football 2K8. Have fun!
