    OSFL Game Results Reporting thread

Hey guys, let's use something like this format:

    Week #1
    Raiders 34 *** Bills 24

Summary: The Raiders came out today blah, blah, blah

(Not sure where we'll put game stats in as I can't edit another writer's reply. Don't want to make summaries mandatory, but if you do write one, please keep it respectful and complimentary of your opponent)

    (ok for real, now)

    Week #1
    CHIEFS 17 *** 49ers 14

49ers came to play today as their initial drive cut through the Chiefs early porous D. After a long connection to Lloyd down the left side, the 9ers mixed up their play calling well eventually leading to a Barlow walk into the end zone. Later in the second Green and Kennison hooked up on a 40+ yard bomb to knot it, but then Rattay again masterfully worked the Niners and took it in himself after checking the end zone coverage to take the 14-7 halftime lead.

In the 2nd half, KC scored late in the 3rd after the 1st of 2 Fujita INT's with a short romp by Holmes to knot it at 14. The Chiefs D stayed stiff as Fujita found his 2nd interception on the very next play. The 9ers stiffened up as well and held KC to a 35 yd FG. The teams went back and forth and it looked like SF was going to hold the Chiefs when a 3rd and long pass int. penalty extended KC's drive. However, several plays later, playing conservatively, Priest Holmes coughs up the ball on a nice (manual) stick by the 9ers LB. SF gets one more shot, but the Chiefs secondary denied any long pass attempts and sewed up the V!

Nice game Goldenknight....we've had many and this was right up there.

      Week #1
      BUCS 23 *** Colts 21

First Quarter - The Bucs came out shooting with a powerful 70 yard drived marked by a flea flicker that went for big, big yards. The Colts defense held at the end of the drive to force a 28 yard Jay Taylor FG. The rest of the quarter was dedicated to a long Colts drive, culminating in a 3 yard Edgerrin James touchdown. The score at the end of the first was 7-3 Colts.

Second Quarter - All Bucs. Coming right back from James' run, Mike Alstott bruised his way downfield and pushed aside the Colts defense to make the score 10-7. After a fumble on a punt return, Jay Taylor scored from 35 yards out to widen the gap to 13-7 Bucs.

Third Quarter - After a quick Colts possession, the Bucs threatened to make the game a non-issue, throwing out another bruising Mike Alstott drive finishing in a 4 yard Alstott touch. At 20-7, the Colts had to make a move, and did when James broke off a long run of 28 yards to narrow the gap to 20-14 in favor of the Bucs.

Fourth Quarter - After a made field goal was taken back on a roughing the kicker penalty, Brian Griese threw a goal line interception that threatened to cost the Bucs the game. Peyton Manning had a great drive down the field, and after two James runs, hit Marvin Harrison for an 8 yard score. For the first time since the opening quarter, the Colts had the lead. With a lot of clock to go, the Bucs started rumbling down the sideline, and after a crucial overturn of a fumble on a long pass, Jay Taylor hit his final FG from 37. On the final drive, Manning led the Colts offense past the midfield stripe and was threatening again when he was sacked on fourth down to force the end of the game. Final score - Bucs 23, Colts 21.

Great game by som envy as we went back and forth for probably the most exciting 2K5 game I've ever played. Simply incredible, from the turnovers to the challenges that worked in both instances, it was a real matchup. If all the games are like this, we're in for a real treat.

        Dallas 16
        Denver 13 (Overtime)

A defensive battle all the way. A Testaverde to Keyshawn completion on the opening drive put the 'Boys up 7-0. Later in the Quarter, the Orange Crush Defense took a pick to the house to tie matters up. Several punts for the rest of the half. Denver with 20 total yards at halftime...ouch.

Denver did get some offense through the air, but not enough to hit paydirt. With the Score tied at 10, Dallas went ahead with a FG with a minute to play. Denver drove and registered a FG to send the game to an extra session.

OT- After each team punted once, Jake Plummer turned into Jake Plummer and threw a pick inside his own 20. Rafael Septien or Richie Cunningham or whoever the Dallas kicker is then game in to end the affair 16-13.

          Week #2
          COLTS 35 *** Giants 3

First Quarter - After a couple of mid-range running and passing plays on their first offensive possession, Peyton Manning found Marvin Harrison after a play-action fake for a 67-yard TD catch. After a 3 and out by the Giants, Edgerrin James' 29 yard run set up another play-action fake that put Reggie Wayne in the endzone with a 23 yard TD. Score at the end of the first was 14-0.

Second Quarter - After beginning the second quarter with a deep punt to the Giants that put them deep in their own end, Kurt Warner threw up a pass that was pulled down by Mike Doss and returned for a defensive TD. 21-0 Colts. After a late fumble by Edgerrin James, the Giants got the ball deep within Colts territory. After threatening, they ultimately had to settle for a 44 yard FG by Steve Christie to put the halftime score at 21-3 Colts.

Third Quarter - After pushing the ball to the Indianapolis 30 yard line on their opening drive of the half, the Giants elected to run Tiki Barber right and pick up the first down. On a challenged call, Barber was ruled not to have crossed the first down markers. (This call, by the way, seemed to be incorrect). After trading interceptions, the score remained the same at the outset of the second half, 21-3 Colts.

Fourth Quarter - After a couple of quick Edgerrin James runs, a wide open Marvin Harrison streaked down the left sideline to score a 47 yard TD from Manning. On the ensuing Giants possession, an errant Warner pass ended up in the hands of Nicholas Harper to put the Colts at the Giants 30 yard line. James' running again set up Manning, this time for a 14 yard TD strike to Reggie Wayne. Final Score: Colts 35, Giants 3.

Good game by catcatch22 even if the final score didn't show it. I tried to mix up my playcalling a little bit, but I got caught up in the running game. He put up some nice plays, but had some unlucky breaks (especially the fourth down call on review). Can't wait for the next one!

            Week #2
            CHIEFS 21 *** BRONCOS 14

Neither team could really get one running back established in a great nailbiter. The TE's were featured in this one with Gonzalez catching 2 TD's and Carswell bringing in 1. Brasil had some nice sustained drives, though one sputtered as a short FG sailed wide. The Chiefs fared no better as they also missed a very makeable FG. The turning point in the 2nd half came with the Chiefs up 14-7, when Plummer dropped back around his 7 and got steamrolled, coughing the ball up to Jared Allen who took in what proved to be the game winner. Chiefs D stiffened again up 21-14 when they stopped a 4th and 1 as Denver was driving in the waning seconds with no time-outs.

GG, Brasil..... real tough contest that had a great variety!

Yeah, the Broncos demonstrated a two minute offense almost as good as Seattle's was in Super Bowl XL.

Rough day for the place kickers....It was a deceivingly strong 2 mph breeze.

Week 3: Denver at San Fran
Elway vs. Montana this was NOT. Both offenses stumbled and bumbled their way to a 3-3 halftime score.

In the second half, Denver mounted a drive inside the SF 5, but a big hit laid on Garrison Hearst caused a fumble, and SF recovered. The Denver D held the Niners to a 3 and out and returned the punt to the SF 31. Following a suspect pass interference call, Denver was again inside the 5. This time they decided to go through the air and took a 10-3 lead on a TD pass to Duane Carswell.

SF went on a long 90+ yard drive in the 4th in an attempt to tie, but a Champ Bailey intercepion in the endzone saved the Broncos. A few first downs allowed Denver to run out the clock.

                  Week 2 49ers at Cowboys:

                  SF 20 Dallas 3

49-ers get the Defensive win. After another week of dismal 49-er offense the defense and special teams come up with the victory. Dallas problems started with the opening kickoff when Dallas fumbled for a 49-er recovery for a touchdown.

Dallas went to the air most of the game but the defense adapted to the predictability and intercepted the ball 4 times.

Another tough game for the offensive side of the ball thankfully the Defensive consistancy is still there.

                  Good game.

                    Week 3

                    ***Jags-20 @ Chiefs-10***

In tha Jags first game since leaving tha NFL and joining tha newly formed league tha OSFL. Tha Jags traveled to K.C. to take on a tough Chiefs squad.

Tha first half saw tha chiefs come out early handing tha ball off to tha priest and also Larry Johnson a.k.a. Grand ma-ma. After a few running plays tha chiefs tried taking it to tha air only to have it picked off.

Tha Jags turned that int into 3 points. From there tha score stayed 3-0 until tha second quarter where tha Jags put up another 7 points to make tha score 10-0. Chiefs started to put together another drive when Green threw his 2nd pick on tha day. This put tha Jags in scoring position like on tha Chiefs 30 or so. Just when it seemed like tha Jags would add some points to there lead on a 3rd down Leftwhich threw an int to Warfield.

Chiefs took advantage of tha turnover and marched down tha field to put up seven of there own. Now with tha score 10-7 and tha 1st half almost over tha Jags managed to get another TD and make tha score 17-7 at tha half.

Second half saw tha Chiefs put up another 3 points and make tha score 17-10. Then late in tha 4th tha Jags put together a long time consuming drive and got a fg to make the final score 20-10.

Coach Faded had this to say after tha game. "I think we played a good game on both sides of tha ball. Are defense really stepped it up in key situations and even though MR. Smith only caught two receptions both of them were for td's which was tha difference in tha game. Chiefs played a good game and I wish them luck in tha future. Next week we play tha Colts so we know we're in for some potent offense hopefully are defense will step it up again next week like they did this week."

                      Week #3
                      COLTS 38 *** Steelers 12

A hard fought battle initially seemed like it was going to be a blowout. A couple of quick Colts passes off of play action lit up the scoreboard with a Steelers FG coming in between. On the kickoff following the second TD, the Steelers return man coughed up the football, setting up Edgerrin James' first TD. After another FG, the Colts led 24-3. As time was closing out in the first half, the Steelers capped off a long drive with a strong FG. On the ensuing possession, a solid hit from the safety caused James to cough up the football. Capitalizing on the turnover, Roethlisberger hit a streaking Antwaan Randle-El for a 60 yard TD.

As the second half opened, a more defensive football game ensued. A Colts punt was nearly blocked in the endzone, and the following drive set up another Steelers FG. The next drive brought the Colts offense back to life, with Manning hooking up with Stokley for another long TD. After the Steelers were forced to turn the ball over on downs, Edgerrin James finished a long running drive with a TD. Final Score: Colts 38 - Steelers 12.

Hard fought game with another great new coach for this league. The lag got a bit excessive, which probably contributed to the result, although both teams compensated very, very well. I'm looking forward to our rematch at Heinz Field, and next week the matchup with an always tough Jags team.

                        OSFL WEEK 3 ACTION

                        BUCS 20 *** GIANTS 10

Two very similar styles clashed here as the old school
styles of these two teams promised a hard hitting low scoring
affair and that is exactly what we got lets recap some
                        of the highlights

In the first quarter you could tell both teams had a lot of
respect for each others defense as they played it close to the
vest and just poked at each others defense looking for that elusive
kink in the armor as both teams struggled early to move the ball with
both teams having quick three and outs the giants second possession
looked like tiki barber was going to dictate the game as he started to
get loose on a drive coupled with some nice passing to carter and hilliard
but the bucs defense stiffened and held the giants to a field goal on a drive
that lasted over half of the first quarter and some of the second. the bucs
come right back with a long dink and doink drive that was stopped with a
impressive goaline stand that stopped the bucs on third and short jay taylor
ties it up at three. the bucs then catch their first break as ronde barber
catches a dropped pass for a interception and puts the buc offense in field
goal range before the half as chris simms deftly passes the bucs in taylor land
as jay makes it a 6-3 game at the half

after both teams go three and out chris simms leads the bucs down the field with some nice running from charlie garner and the drive ends with a 7 yard strike to galloway for a 13-3 lead at this point the buc defense looked like they were trying to stake claim as the best defense in the OSFL as they continued to frustate tiki barber who after the game questioned his teammates heart saying that they gave up.in the fourth the bucs get the ball and start to pound away at the clock until michael pittman breaks thru with a 30 yard sprint which puts the bucs in the red zone. after a strike to clayton the bucs turn to charlie garner from 3 yards out to make the score 20-3 later in the fourth quarter the giants marched thru the bucs prevent defense to score a late touchdown on a
perfect pitch and catch from warner to tim carter on the pylon to make the score 20-10

a well played game that should make for a interesting rematch in new york

                          ***Colts-7 @ Jags- 62***

Now I know tha score looks pretty cr8zy, but that was exactly tha kind of game it was. Tha colts defense never got off tha plane. When I say that I don't mean tha Colts coach played bad I mean tha team played bad for him.

Jags had a total of 338yrds on tha ground. Tha majority of tha yrds came from an unlikely source. Toefield had 223yrds on 10 carries with 3td's, Freddy had like 89yrds and 2td's, and Fuamata(FB) had 1 td. Jags even got 1td on a punt return.(That right there shows you how everything was going tha Jags way) Colts defense looked liked tha red sea and just parted open up tha middle and let Toefield threw time and time again.

This was just one of those games where EVERYTHING went tha Jags way and nothin went tha Colts way.

I'm sure in are next matchup tha Colts will be better prepared for tha game.

A defensive struggle from beginning to end the
broncos looked like they were going to run away with
this game as jumped out to a impressive 13 to nothing
lead primarily behind to feet of reuben droughns as he
scored the game lone touchdown with a 49 yard swing pass
and run. the broncos converted two field goals to give
them a 13-0 lead at halftime. in the second half the
buc offense finally started to show signs of life but
the receiver couldnt catch a cold in a freezer while
wearing their boxer shorts as pass after pass just
bounced off their hand. they did manage a field goal
in the third quarter to make it 13-3 the bucs get inside
the five yard line but have to settle for a field goal to
bring the score to 13-6 the broncos defense then began to
stake their claim as the best defense in the OSFL with stop
after stop including a game clinching interception in the
endzone by kelly herndon. overall a fantastic low scoring
                            game with plenty of highlights.
