Re: What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?

I loved 2k football, and hated Madden. However, I do like this year's Madden on 360 very much. I think that it could stand having more of 2K's presentation style (announcers, pregame, halftime, and postgame shows, stat overlay graphics during game, etc., postgame interviews).

Controls. I really felt like I had a lot more control over my players in 2k5 than I do with this game. It somehow feels like I'm sort of telling them what to do - but they don't have to, if they don't want to. Often the controls feel unresponsive. Something I'll just have to get used to, as it's my first Madden game.

Ah yes, forgot about that. That was great. But in Madden, it does not seem like an issue, because unfortunately, the way the playbook is, your primary receiver always lines up on the right, your secondary on the left.

That's another thing I loved about 2k, the play books had a lot of different formations, with your primary receiver constantly moving around, even lining up in the slot, which was just fantastic.

Funny, I have the opposite opinion. I always have felt more in control with Madden games. Go figure.

Wow, you're original. Here's the deal, and obviously simplified to the extreme:

Madden 2001 - bare bones and bleck
Madden 2002 - good game but needed a little refinement
Madden 2003 - most fun of the current-gen IMO
Madden 2004 - hiccup, good game but too offensively biased
Madden 2005 - best Madden of the current-gen crop
Madden 2006 - it's '05 with a cone that you love or hate, EA shift to next-gen

Madden 2006 (360) - bare bones and worse then 2001
Madden 2007 (360) - good game but in need of a little refinement
Madden 2008 (360) - ?, but it's not like we haven't seen this trend before

NFL 2K# also had their own version of the QB vision..i think...

Maybe it was my imagination, but I felt that the camera always panned back further for the better quarterbacks so you could see the field more. For the average quarterbacks the camera didn't pan back at far. Even it was just my imagination and 2K didn't have this, this is a feature Madden should have implemented instead of the vision cone. I remember when I first saw NFL 2K on the Dreamcast. That game was the most hyped up football game in that series. That was the first football game of that generation and people were very optimisitc about what football games were going to be offering. Unfortunately, Madden has yet to wow the entire gaming community as a whole the way the original NFL 2K did. To me the graphics in both EA football games are subpar compared what I feel 2K could do with a football game in next gen.
According to my old marketing professor, satisfaction is when product performance meets or exceeds consumer expectation.

                1. The Crib!!! Awesome!!

                2. Inclusion of football gurus such as Steve O, Carmen Elektra and David Arquette! I miss this so much...

                3. HORRIBLE db AI. A personal fave was the CB swat after the pass completion AND after the reciever was already headed downfield.

                4. A stellar franchise mode including fabulous trades such as P. Manning for Patrick Ramsey.

                5. The inability to change your depth chart at certain positions.

                6. I could go with many other things but lets just leave itbe for now.

                7. Everybody's favorite cover boy and athlete.......TO!!!! Sorry couldn't resist 1 more!

Re: What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?

I think it's impossible for people to be objective about 2k5, partly because the things it did well it did incredibly well. If it's strengths played into what you liked, it was easy to ignore the problems. Since I'm a pretty big dynasty player, 2k5 was useless as a single player game because the franchise logic was completely screwed up. You had to control every team manually and that takes the fun out of franchise for me. As a single-player game, despite the RB tackle breaking, I thought 2k4 was better and more polished.

However, the online league system in 2k5 is the most fun I've ever had with video football. It's the #1 thing I miss, along with:

--Custom soundtracks (combined with using on-the-field presentation, it kept the atmosphere much more fresh).
--The game log and ability to see replays of any play (loved that)
                  --The defensive line moves
--The playbooks, although I agree the defensive playbooks were pretty thin.
                  --The halftime and end-of-game highlights.

One thing I don't get is people raving about 2k5s presentation. It was great the first few games, but easily got as repetitious as most sports games do (not just Madden). The announcers were on par with Madden for the obnoxious scale. The highlights at halftime and at the end of the game were great, but the Week in Review gimmick got old to me after a few weeks.

This is one of the keys. I just made a related post. I hope people check it out.

People always say that 2K heads thought the game was perfect. But if you check the threads, you'll see that most everyone despised the glitches, bad AI and non-working features. People were just able to live with those things because the good in the game outweighed the problems. Same with people that love Madden.

Definitely repetitious. But I think those who liked 2K football, and still compare 2K5 with today's Madden are also thinking about what 2K7 Football would be. 2K5's presentation is 2 years old. What would it be like today, on a next gen system?

#1 IMO is collision detection. It was stellar in 2K5. This games collision is like 5 years old. And really hurts the game.

Theres about a million other features presention wise and control wise , but who has the time to list all those. If you played 2K5 on the xbox you know Madden isnt even in the same ball park. Heck not even in the parking lot.

And online? Oh man . Dont get me started. For those that dont know. In 2K5 the online leagues were like fantasy leagues. Everything was there. You could TRADE players from team to team. Everything was online. STats, standings. And by online I mean on XBL. Not some 3rd party website. It was a REAL online league.

And for everyone saying " let it go" " move on". That wouldnt be a problem if Madden was implementing these basic things that we had on a game 3 years old on an old gen system. As long as EA keeps making a game in the NEXT GEN that doesnt even have the features of old gen games people will complain.

We shouldnt even be able to compare these two games. That alone shows how much Madden is lacking . We all know 2K5 had problems like any other game. It wasnt PERFECT, But that has NOTHING to do next gen Madden being so far behind a 3 year old game on a last gen system.
