The one thing that 2k5 has over madden still, is the overall feel and atmosphere of a real nfl game.

Re: What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?
Ther running game. I wouldn't pound into the line and just sit there or bounce around. They would push the guy in front of them. 2-3 years later madden still hasn't changed that. There are a bunch others both ways, but I would be very happy if they would change the collisions on the running game.BETA-7 LIVES!!!Comment

Re: What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?
alot of people forget in 2k5 you could hold down the right trigger during plays and your player would move better sideline to sideline, than just turning and running towards somebody. release the button when pursuing someone. also if you could not control the db when the ball is in the air hit the Y button or R trigger to make a play on the ball even though you are not manually controlling the player.
madden has:
-better franchise even though the draft comes before the free agency period in madden instead of the other way around.
-smoother animations
-receiver routes changed based on the situation.
-more frontend options(madden 101,minicamps)
-more on field options(slide tackling)
-qb vision
2k5 has:
-more animations and tons of them for different situations.
-double team blocking
-maximum passing( if i need to throw low and away from the defender you could. also you could throw to the receiver or throw to a spot.
-vip(provided details about my tendecies and running and passing habits. what my favorite hotroutes are, what defensives line moves i like to use .
also i could play against mine or anyones vip and get the details on them as well.
-presentation
-weekly prep.(could make any player lose or gain weight, work on route running,7-on-7 drills and the whatnot. injured reserve actually freed up a roster spot.
-maximum tackling( keep tapping to break free or churn for more yds.wrap up tackle or go for the big hit.
-juke stick(could combo moves if timed right)
-challenge plays( not just select challenge and the cpu picks what it thinks you want. stepped out of bounds, ball passed backwards, hit while arm was moving etc...
-qb evade(finally a way for someone to get away from a defender if they realise they were about to get sacked. something that all football games should have.
-gang tackling and not just 1 animation but tons of different 2 man tackles
now 2k5 added like 4 things that changed the gameplay while madden added 1.
i don't hate madden or play 2k5 cause of presention. i play it cause the game on the field is better imo. alot of 2k players are former madden players, so there must be a reason why they made the change. alot of it's players didn't just get the game because it was 20 bucks. i made the switch cause i noticed madden was not advancing the game of football or trying to bring innovation to it.
either way i still plan on getting the new madden, but i keep hearing about maybe next yr from madden players and i have been hearing that from them for yrs. so i'm not getting my hopes up. i won't knock what a person buys but please people don't be blind fanboys. we both over look our games short coming for a reason i guess. even though when i play 2k i still hate some of the db play even though i get alot of ints or the features they took out that madden has added pisses me off though.
ex: charging to the line to get the jump was in 2k in like 01 02, but they took it out. being able to bullrush the oline men was taken out but madden 06 had it. create a play and blocking schemes were taken out of 2k as well. i can't wait for the day when a football game will add more features for on the field play and not take them out, but that won't happen unless we add more buttons.Comment

Re: What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?
I am sure this was mentioned already, but the 2 player game in 2K5 was just amazing, especially online. 2K5 online is still light years ahead of Madden and that pisses me off because I really enjoyed playing 2K5 online. I know that I still can, but I would like to move on (But I will NOT get rid of my Xbox or my copy of NFL2K5 anytime soon).
But, my fellow 2K fans need to stop calling Madden fans fanboys and look in the mirror. Madden 07 is a very good game IMO. It still lacks many great things from 2K5, but on the field, it is a solid game. Don't get me wrong though, if I had a next gen 2K game, I don't think I would be playing Madden 07.
2K5 had its flaws and Madden has it's flaws (some for 5 years already, but that is a topic for another day), neither game is perfect and we should all enjoy them for what they are.Comment

Re: What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?
I read these boards everyday, but never post. It gets a little tiresome to go into 60% of these Madden threads and find the same ol' comparison to NFL2k5 everytime you guys try to discuss Madden. I wish I could just log on and read about Madden in this forum, and NFL2K5 in their thread.
Just one thing. Everyone complains about the "Mario Running". That's why the small juke is mapped to the A button. Try this: Call your inside run play. When you see you are about to run up the back of one of your O-linemen, tap the A button and PRESTO! Your back will get skinny and side step through a hole. Try it. It's FUN!Comment

Re: What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?
I was a late convert over to 2k right before it went under, but it seemed to suffer from the same issues as madden this year which is a sub par Franchise mode.
2k5s franchise was laughable, thier in game engine was great but still with its flaws, such as the odd DB ai. Gameplay wise 2k and madden werent that far apart, but the current gen franchise mode dwarfs anything 2k ever put out in terms of franchise mode.Comment

Re: What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?
Screw all that petty "LOL FRANCHISE MODE" and "ESPN PRESENTATION!111" crap. That doesn't even matter at all.
What 2k5 has over Madden, is the most absolute important aspect all of football.
RHYTHM.
Madden has NO dropback function. In the NFL, you HAVE to have a dropback. A 3 step, 5 step, or a 7 step. And once you get done off that dropback, your play opens, and you have to get rid of the ball. If you miss that oppertunity, you pay for it. Just like real life. 2k5 always had that. That's what puts it over Madden.
In Madden, there is 0 rhythm, and it shows. It's always been an "idiots game" so to speak. For ages 7 and up. Anyone can play Madden, because on that game, anyone can drop back 30 yards, heave a ball up in the air into triple coverage, and still come down with it. And it's why it will never be a good representation of a football game, ever.Last edited by Von Dozier; 08-26-2006, 01:24 PM.Comment

Franchise mode is the most innovative feature to his sports videogames pretty much ever, outside of online play. it turned playing sports games from a 3 month ordeal to a game you can play all year long.Comment

"What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?"
1. The Crib!!! Awesome!!
2. Inclusion of football gurus such as Steve O, Carmen Elektra and David Arquette! I miss this so much...
3. HORRIBLE db AI. A personal fave was the CB swat after the pass completion AND after the reciever was already headed downfield.
4. A stellar franchise mode including fabulous trades such as P. Manning for Patrick Ramsey.
5. The inability to change your depth chart at certain positions.
6. I could go with many other things but lets just leave itbe for now.
7. Everybody's favorite cover boy and athlete.......TO!!!! Sorry couldn't resist 1 more!Comment

Re: What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?
Just keeping score for the original poster. Summary of all the things listed in this thread so far, plus a few of my own...
What does NFL 2K5 have that Madden still doesn't have?:
-Gang Tackling
-Double-team blocking
-Automatic O-line avoidance animations (meaning zero Mario-running)
-Maximum passing
-VIP recorded tendacies and the ability to play against others profile
-TV-style presentation
-Game appropriate cutscenes, (riding bike after injury, oxygen mask after big run)
-First Person Football
-Variable challege system
-Max tackling (big hit vs. wrap & tap)
-Realistic ammount of infractions that you can see actually see happening. (Hey! that guy dragged my defender down..thats a hold! Whistle blows. )
-D-lineman that can tackle while still in the blocking animation.
-Weekly Prep
-Deep(er) juke system (Madden is not far behind here)
-QB evade
-Crib
-Replay save
-Sim to end of game
-Customizable stadium music
-Defensive hot routes
-Online leagues
-Referees
-Chain Gang
-Fully animated sideline
-Sideline reporter
-Ability to assign a DB to a specific reciever all game no matter which side of the field he lines up on (defensive matchups)
-Creation of hybrid defenses such as having 4 dlineman, 2 lbs, 2 cbs, 2 ss and 1 fs.
-Fatigue (lol)
-Route running attribute (so underrated, some WR's could get pushed totally off their route)
-Comprehensive at-the-line audibles,
-A real pocket that actually surrounds the QB
-DB hand-fighting at the LOS...inside/oustide techniques
-Accurate face scans and realistic rookie faces based on blended photos. Madden faces = creeeeepy.
-dirt/sod that kicks up (zoom in on it...actually has a grass side and a dirt side. Kinda cool.)
-passing accuracy bonus for throwing on the QB's set-up "bounce"
-different throwing animations for different QB styles (sidearm, etc)
-team specific offensive formations and defensive plays
-records playcalling tendacies and AI that self adjusts to plays called several times
-play call counter showing how many times you've run a particular play
-Weekly wrap-up with highlights (seeing your highlight on Sportscenter? Priceless)
-Thick layer of dust (LMAO)
*also:
-Ability to set up and watch CPU vs. CPU games.
