If it meant that they had to go the internet or mobile route for an NFL game, I'd rather they just commit to the console and create a fictional league. The NFL shield isn't that important to me at this point. What I want is a game that reflects what we see on the field on Sundays in the fall/winter. Let Madden keep their exclusive license, I don't care anymore.

I'm more interested in a great game to play these days then the NFL license. I want professional football in video game form! Give us great characters (players, coaches), league backstory, customization, and a wide open franchise mode (offline/online)!Comment

Just provide customization.

Those videos of APF2K8 were cool. I never played it when it first came out, but looking at it right now it's obvious it's light years ahead of Madden (haven't played '15, so I am only speaking for 12 and 25, the last 2 versions I bought used).
It's too bad there was not a franchise option for that game because I'd run out today and pick it up for sure. I am still thinking about getting it just for the game play alone. Looks more fun (and real) for my PS3 than Madden 12 and 25.
JMF16 can't get here soon enough.Comment

It is worth the few bucks to give it a try. If you have a 360, I would get it for that system though. The ps3 has a slower rate and people were able to make nfl rosters on the 360. I still play it on ps3 because I'm too lazy to hook my Xbox back up so for the price you can't go wrong either way.
Maybe that will quench my football thirst until JMF16 is released. If not, I'll keep on going with M12.Comment

I think I'll take your advice on that. That's too bad you can't get the rosters for PS3 - that's the only system I have. Need to find some solid sliders (assuming they use sliders?) here and see how it plays.

Re: Joe Montana Football 16 Looks to be a Mobile Game, Utilizing Unreal Engine 4
The lack of fumbles in APF 2K8 is caused by every skill position player in the game having an 80 or higher secure ball rating.
Sliders don't really help the situation any, but if you go into the roster and manually lower people's secure ball ratings, you can get a more realistic amount of fumbles.
Giving big-hitting defenders the hidden "helmet high tackles" ability will also help. The tackle animations that ability produces tend to cause more fumbles than the normal tackle animations.Last edited by jyoung; 02-18-2015, 12:25 AM.Comment

Re: Joe Montana Football 16 Looks to be a Mobile Game, Utilizing Unreal Engine 4
Ok so I finally had a chance to look at the screenshots, motion capture stills, etc...this definitely looks to be for a more powerful platform than mobile. I have a PS4 but I am primarily a PC gamer so the quote about it not being PC exclusive is encouraging(gives the impression it will be on PC).
Just a shot in the dark, but I would not be surprised if the JM16 devs are getting this thing to a showable state to launch a Kickstarter campaign modeled after what Chris Roberts did with Star Citizen. It just feels like that is what they are building up to right now. Remember, for 10 years, the publishers said that space sims were dead and the public did not want them(sound familiar?). Chris Roberts put together a gorgeous KS campaign showing In Game assets and laying out his vision. Star Citizen shattered every crowd funding record and has the record to this day.
The publishers have declared that todays gamer does not want an unlicensed football game and that is incorrect, there just has not been a quality attempt with the feature set that gamers want in a football game. The same thing happened to space sims and the publishers made it a self fulfilling prophecy by not putting anything out there and than declaring space sims are dead...they were dead because your games sucked and there was nothing to buy, the customer never stopped wanting them. Chris Roberts and Co. emphatically proved the publishers wrong. This is what has happened to football gaming. This is why we need JM16 to prove them wrong.
I said that to lead to this: The pathetic attempts to get a football game crowdfunded so far have not had working models or in game footage to show and did not have a legend promoting them. The attempts have been as feeble as the major publishers attempt at making a quality competing football game. Take a look at the Star Citizen KS campaign video below and imagine an opening football cinematic (using in game action not CGI), and than Joe Montana talking about his vision for Joe Montana Football 16, describing the features and plans that football gamers desire in a game. I would drop $250 before the end of the video...maybe more. Here is the SC original KS video...this is how it should be done if this is the route they take:

Chris Roberts made multiple Wing Commander games though.
Damon Grow and Joe Montana have made a Fantasy Football app (that appears to never really ever came out, or was pulled).Comment

Damon Grow' s Twitter feed is pretty much the only source of info. If you're trying to get public funding, it seems getting the word out there about what they are designing and what platforms they want it on would be crucial. And the sooner the better. No one will fund a project they don't even know exists, and yet these guys are surrounded in secrecy.
I don't know. I just think that these guys are acting more like a company trying to protect its design from competition than one looking for public assistance.Comment

I'm no developer but it seems to me they are going about this all wrong for crowd funding. The announcement that this game was in the works goes back to July of last year and its almost a completely unknown game.

A - having control of the messaging of the product, and
B - showing the game when it's ready
Whenever this studio does put out media of this game - via launching a Kickstarter, doing a press blitz, launching a web site, or whatever - that media out on the Internet forever, and that will color any and all impressions of the game regardless of any improvements going forward from that point. To that end, they'll show something when they feel confident in the product they have to show, not a moment sooner and not a moment later, and that is a good thing.
This is why a ton of video game Kickstarters fail; the people behind it have an unfinished and half-baked game alpha demo to show off and a grand vision of their project on paper. You want to have at least a vertical slice to show off - a small and highly-polished chunk representative of the full game - as opposed to a tech-demo, an alpha, or the latest build from someone's machine in addition to the overarching vision. This is notably why most previous football game Kickstarters have failed miserably; with the exception of Dave Murray's Tecmo Bowl inspired game Gridiron Heroes (which did get successfully funded, I believe), these projects barely had a game to show at all.Comment

Forgive my ignorance on this. But if it were me, I would've announced what platforms and what type of game I wanted to make (SIM, arcade, online only) and directed fans and supporters where to go to give me financial support on day 1. Once I was able to get a high polished representation as you call it, I would show my work off and sell it a second time, hoping the WIP I show off gains stronger support and additional funding. A place for fans to offer support and funding would be a priority from day 1 til I went gold if I were in charge of a project like this though.Comment
