Re: Your very own camera argument thread.

Tell me, what in the world does Madden have anything to do with the camera in BB?

If someone doesn't like the camera in BB, people defend the camera by bringing up Madden and bashing Madden. How is that a logical defense to the camera in BACKBREAKER?

Everyone I know really wants to buy this game due to the physics and gameplay mechanics, but will only do so if BB provide a classic camera.

I am really looking forward to a new football game, so hopefully the BB people will add a classic camera so that I can enjoy the game with friends.

        Because it is.

If people were complaining about actual issues with the camera, we could potentially have a discussion on how to fix them.

Unfortunately, that isn't what people are doing. What they are saying is that they want the option to use Madden's camera angle - even though Backbreaker is specifically trying to not be that style of game. You want to talk about logic... how is that a logical complaint? In any other genre this discussion is just flat out stupid. You aren't going to see people on a Forza message board complaining that there aren't any street races or nitro boosting, because Forza isn't that type of game. Yet you want to complain that an up close 3rd person action game doesn't have a zoomed out camera that another game uses?

I feel bad for all the people that are going to miss out on this game because they're unwilling to actually try it for more than 10 minutes because they actually have to learn how to play properly first.

Obviously the only "realistic" camera would be straight up first person ala NFL 2k's experiment. But I'm just tired of people now bashing the camera we have been using for 2 decades now, to defend BB's camera.

But its ok to bash the BB camera.....

This isn't about Madden. Many sports games have multiple camera angles to choose from during gameplay. The option would only be a plus and not take away from those who prefer on the field action.

For example, when I play 2k hockey, I play from the side view for a few games then I switch to the classic up and down view.

That's all well and good for hockey or basketball. There's no distinct advantage for one camera over the other.

The "classic" football camera has a very real advantage over Backbreaker's view. If you include it, not only are you missing the whole point of what Backbreaker is trying to be, but you also risk fragmenting the online community, which may not be very big as it is. If you lock one view online, you deter everyone who uses the other view. If you allow classic vs standard, it's flat out unfair, and if you allow both, you split the community and make it harder to find opponents. None of those are good things.

This thread was left open so there would be a place for camera discussion, some of you should go read the Trolling thread above. If the Madden vs BB thing keeps up you'll be discussing this game somewhere else then OS.

Madden has been the only football game for quite some time and is the benchmark for football games. Surely comparisons are to be expected when a new football game is released?

In this case more so, as the camera angle that some want introduced is the Madden Classic Camera.

RaiderKtulu, surely getting a bigger community in the first place is key to this series succeeding? A classic camera will definitely attract more people to the game.

Gamers could then choose which online matches they prefer to play, either close up cam or classic cam.

?? I don't really see how.....As far as the camera angle the bright side is its something they can patch and yes we should have the option of which camera angle we choose to use during a game,I mean were only the consumer and the reason they made a video game in the first place.

First of all, I TOTALLY agree with you. But how do you know it's something they can patch? I'm hoping you are right and that they really consider giving us at least one traditional camera view option in Backbreaker I, not II. But I doubt it.

This whole topic boils down to one question, and it's not "which camera angle is more realistic?" or "which is better?". We each have our own reasons for liking one of them over the other. The question is simply "should there be a camera angle OPTION in the game"? Bottom line. My answer is an emphatic "Yes".

why are you guys going to such extremes here?

They shouldn't zoom all the way out like Madden camera, but I feel they need to give the option of zooming out just a little more to help with peripheral vision, while still giving that feeling of being on the field.

They can find a happy medium here with this camera angle if they choose to.
The camera angle can still be unique, and in your face with just the right angle, distance, and zooming techniques.

For me.. its no fun getting sacked by a guy coming from off the screen who i never even saw or felt.

Maybe they could get around this buy putting in some kind of pocket presence warning feature to warn you when an off the screen defender is getting close or something.. I don't know, but as it stands right now, they need to tweak this camera angle to suit more people while still keeping that unique on the field feeling.

this all or nothing camera angle is just not gonna work for the masses.
                            just my 2 cents..

The same thing I hated about the "Vision Cone" in Madden I hate about the Camera in BB. I just don't have time to look around, by the time I find my second WR I'm already on my back. Yes, maybe I suck, but because of that I went from taking the day off and buying this game day one, to not buying it at all. It's a shame I was hoping for a great Football game. I'm just glad there was a Demo.

Re: Your very own camera argument thread.

BACKBREAKER IS NOT TRYING TO BE LIKE MADDEN.

It is intentionally using a different camera angle and a different approach to playing the game of football. It also just happens to be the first football game to actually use real physics. Backbreaker is meant to be played as a player, on the field - not as a God of Football with the all-seeing eyes of the zoomed out full field camera. The old camera is a crutch. It allows you to see things you shouldn't be able to see and makes the game easier. We finally have a game where you actually have to look at your WR before you throw it to him. We finally have a game where you might actually NOT SEE the open guy and end up getting sacked. We finally have a game where you can actually follow where the QB is looking, without a flashlight effect on the field, and be able to anticipate where a pass is going before it's thrown. This game is closer to real football than anything we've ever had before (and even if there are CPU offensive AI issues, they won't matter for human vs human play) - and you want to take that away by sticking in the old classic camera.

ADDING THE MADDEN CAMERA DEFEATS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE GAME

Some of you just don't get it.

/ban me if you want, I don't care.
