Re: Your very own camera argument thread.
Some of you love dancing around in circles(pretty much no progression made in this thread in regards to TRYING to understand the opposing view). I've had some time to really think about this entire 'camera' argument, and the only sensible reason to be against camera options is fearing that it'll take away from the game both from a uniqueness and gameplay perspective; those two reasons in actuality go hand and hand in some ways. Lets just say for examples sake that they decide to add a camera along the lines of what we as football gamers are widely accustom to.
Isn't it conceivable to believe that since the current camera angle was a design decision that adding another one like a traditional view (my example) would potentially cause and/or reveal more problems? I can't remember something of this magnitude (like cameras) being added, and going over smoothly. I mentioned Fight Night 4 adding buttons already, and that process was anything but smooth, and it ended up being one of the reasons why I stopped playing the game (particularly online). How do people like to put it on O.S? "It killed the game for me." Wrongly, Fight Night was designed for analog only gameplay, and the results from adding buttons is one that I care to forget, so while I'm not against adding more camera angles, I do believe that the changes and choices in options shouldn't be a far-cry from the camera that we have right now due to the potential of it shaping the game, and turning it into something that it isn't meant to be.

Re: Your very own camera argument thread.
i have a different opinion of the examples being used .
1.2k8 had one camera but the history of the game shows that it had multiple camera angles. removing cameras is not the same as backbreaker not having them...backbreaker never had camera options,so there is no telling how the game would perform with that camera ?? i'm, pretty sure the feeling would be completely different, and that's part of backbreakers draw.
2.fight night r3 was not designed around tpc. it is the same game from the xbox with a fresh coat of paint. all other fight night games had button controls so taking those away alienated fans of the series which is why they put them back in.... not added but put them back.
some games are designed a certain way...fps and tps don't offer camera options because the games were designed around a certain model...as was backbreaker.
options are always great, but not always available.Last edited by mr_president; 05-27-2010, 05:21 AM.Comment

My goodness, could we actually have an actual articulate opinion instead of incessant, mindless confrontation? I think we have a winner, ladies and gentlemen!
Great points Epiffani, and I would hate to see BB suffer a similar fate to FNR4. The entire fun-factor of that game died with the introduction of button controls.Comment

Re: Your very own camera argument thread.
I stated earlier in the thread that I believed BB's gameplay was robust enough to handle a different camera view.
I'm now starting to think differently on the matter. Maybe the game is dependent on gamers only seeing limited action mid-play? Maybe it would be ridiculously easy? Maybe several other unknown problems would be exposed? Maybe there is an element of gaming illusion - who knows? I'm not criticising it, just speculating, trying to understand why else they'd fail to include an option which I believe will cost them sales?
Hopefully NM will sell their engine to someone who wants to develop a football game which incorporates a classic cam, or alternatively (and highly unlikely) they make a different football game themselves, with a different artistic ambition in mind?
Either way, I just want to be able to enjoy the tasty treat of football and physics with a classic cam viewpoint.Comment

Re: Your very own camera argument thread.
I understand this game is not Madden, and it's not even competing with Madden. I've been following and waiting for Backbreaker for 3 years. I've played the heck out of the demo and I just can't enjoy the game with this type of camera. On passing plays if my 1st WR is not open I'm sacked. On run plays I sometimes find myself starting out running the wrong way. On Defense if I switch players I become so <style> BODY { margin-left:6pt; margin-top:3pt; margin-right:3pt; margin-bottom:3pt; font-size:8pt; font-family:"MS Reference Sans Serif"; line-height:10pt; overflow:auto; } SPAN.DEFINITION { text-indent:11.25pt; font-size:8pt; font-family:"MS Reference Sans Serif"; line-height:10pt; } SPAN.XREF { color:#0000FF; } div.pron { font-size:8pt; font-family:"MS Reference Sans Serif"; color=#7f261c; margin-bottom:4.5pt; } span.pron { font-size:8pt; font-family:"MS Reference Sans Serif"; color=#7f261c; margin-bottom:4.5pt; } TD.DEFINITION { font-size:8pt; font-family:"MS Reference Sans Serif"; line-height:10pt; } SPAN.SUBJECT { font-size:7pt; text-transform:uppercase; } td.headword { font-size:16pt; font-family:"MS Reference Sans Serif"; } div.headword { font-size:16pt; font-family:"MS Reference Sans Serif"; } div.headword_rule { font-size:0.75pt; border=0pt solid #8E8E8E; border-top-width:0.75pt; margin-top:4.5pt; margin-bottom:4.5pt; } div.EssayHdr { font-size:9pt; font-weight:bold; font-family:"MS Reference Sans Serif"; background-color:#C0C0C0; padding-left:2pt; padding-top:1pt; padding-bottom:1pt; margine-bottom:6pt; } </style>disoriented the play is over before I even know where I am on the field. Again maybe I just suck at this game, but I find that not likely as I am very good at every other football game I've played since the 80's. Being confused 75% of the time is not real or fun to me. The one thing that is going to keep me from buying this game is the camera.
A very simple solution would be use the current camera as the default, and add the ability for the user to customize the camera like 2k did, then everyone would be happy.
I know the BB team is striving for realism here , but it makes me wonder if there are game play flaws they are hiding by not having the traditional camera view. It has been said that "The game won't work with the traditional camera view" My question is why? What is it we can't see with this view that we would see with the traditional view , if anything?Last edited by JMD; 05-27-2010, 07:19 AM.Comment

Re: Your very own camera argument thread.
They could patch a different camera option and then you could play your way and I could play my way.
Problem solved, we are both happy.Comment

Adding another camera eliminates the element of blindside hits...Tom Brady :" We're only going to score 17 points? ha ha ha"

Re: Your very own camera argument thread.
It is in my opinion. Is that not what we are discussing when breaking down the demo? People's opinions?
I mean really. You really want to argue that lack of options is a good thing? Seriously? You have no stake in this games success, yet you talk down anyone who has less than glowing things to say about the game. I mean, damn, wanting options in a game that is supposed to be super customizable is a bad thing? Do you read what you are writing?Tom Brady :" We're only going to score 17 points? ha ha ha"

Re: Your very own camera argument thread.
Maybe, although when I play Madden I often take my eyes off the QB when I'm checking that my receiver is open, and sometimes I get sacked when I'm not expecting it.Comment
