Re: Favre to the Vikings?
Wish they would've asked him some tougher questions but it's understandable...I guess.
One thing I will say is that he REALLY has no idea how pissed Packer Fans will be if he goes to Minnesota.
"I don't know what to tell them. Vince Lombardi went to the Washington Redskins when he left and his name is on the [championship] trophy. We give that out every year. I don't hear too many people say, 'That damn traitor. He went to Washington.' Now, time heals a lot of things. I have nothing but the highest regard for Green Bay. And I mean that sincerely. Did some things happen there that may have ruffled the feathers for both sides? Yes. But once again, the 16 years I spent there, you can't take it away. I wouldn't change it for anything in the world. And they chose to go in a different direction, and that's OK. I chose to play again, and that's OK. I've had former players, friends of mine, I have family, who say, 'I can't picture you playing anywhere but Green Bay. I can't do it.' It's football. Its' not life or death."
All in all, he didn't really say anything that we didn't already know and continues to dodge the fact that this is about getting revenge against Ted Thompson and not just to play because "he enjoys the game and wants to have fun" like he says.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Favre to the Vikings?
Brent needs to read more Packer history. This is much more like running Curly Lambeau out of town than Lombardi. If I recall, Lambeau only returned to GB once in 40 years, and that started a feud with Lombardi. When rookie Randall Cobb was told by this U.S. Marine that he was a big fan of the wide receiver, Cobb said, “I think I’m a bigger fan of yours.”Comment

Re: Favre to the Vikings?
Has anyone bothered to ask what happens if he can't play any better than Jackson?
What a mess they will have on their hands if Sage Rosenfels is out throwing Brett in practice, but Childress continues to start Brett in front of him. What then? What do they do when Brett goes on one of his interception rampages and costs the team 3 games in a row?
I expect Favre to be on the bench, or destroying this team's season by week 10. They need a game manager, not an aging and inteception prone wildcard like Favre. Matt Cassell would have been a much better fit.Comment

As for the INT's, Favre will probably throw 20 to 26 times a game in this offense. With AP and Chester in the backfield, and Harvin there if they chose to installed The Wildcat (which they have run in practice) Favre will be a semi-game manager. When Jackson was in you could tell Childress had him on a short leash in terms of what plays were called. With Favre out there I think there will be obviously more leeway, but he won't be slinging the ball 30-35 times per game in Minnesota.
It could blow up but it's a chance the Vikings have to take.GT: Herkyalert

Re: Favre to the Vikings?
1. Favre must not know too much of Packer history. I'll just give a byte sized summary for those who may not know (if I get anything wrong please correct me) Essentially Lombardi stepped down as head coach because of stress and health related issues (he also saw the team was on a decline as well) but he stuck around as GM for a year. (There's an interesting quote I read where he said they were planning to put astroturf in Lambeau. Wow, imagine if they did that!) He just couldn't get the itch out for coaching and went to Washington. People understood because Lombardi was a hero. He was the guy that literally saved the franchise when he came in. So he goes to Washington with no hard feelings, coaches for a year (I have the one preseason game of that Redskins team and it seemed that Lombardi was going for a more vertical offense it would've been interesting if he lived longer to see if he would've used the passing game a lot more) and tragically dies.
I don't know how the heck that compares to Favre hemming and hewing about retirement and when the Packers feel its time to move on he retires then pulls the crap he did to get to NYJ and then now is going to Minny to exact revenge on the GB front office. It's just stupid and petty. Lombardi didn't leave because of greed and selfishness he left because his time had passed in Green Bay and it was time to start anew.
2. Man, it's going to be comical when in critical situations Favre ignores AP and goes into gunslinger mode. Favre didn't exactly have a great relationship with his backs in NYJ. It'll be magnified a lot more because he'll be working with a franchise RB in Peterson. Interestingly, this'll be the first time in Favre's career that he'll have a true franchise guy in the backfield with him. Let's see if Favre will be greedy or use his head.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Here is a story referencing what I stated earlier. Brent should have compared himself to Curly lambeau.

Re: Favre to the Vikings?
That interview was candy cane fluff "journalism". Howard Stern should interview him.
Favre comparing himself to Lombardi.........naaaahh, he doesn't have an ego problem. LOL. Favre's shoulder doesn't affect his brain. Favre has made extremely stupid decisions with the ball his entire career, including last year when it mattered most (just as he always does when it matters most). You want Favre to be a "game manager" and hand the ball off to AP? Hell, Rosenfels could do that. What....Favre handing the ball off instead of Rosenfels is supposed to make the team better? He doesn't have enough gas left in the tank to keep defenses honest. When Favre is on the field it's like a bloody wounded seal swimming amongst a pack of hungry Great White sharks. They want Favre on the field, not the opther way around. This ain't the 90's.
But favre's right about one thing.......he is a difference maker. He was the difference between the Packers going to the Super Bowl and going home busted after a game killing INT. He was the difference between the Jets making the playoffs and not making them. Nothing new there. It's been happening for years. He's pretty much singlehandedly killed the mystique of home field advantage at Lambeau. And don't for one second try and tell me Chad Pennington couldn't have done as well or better with NY last year. Dude took the freakin' Dolphins from 1 win to the playoffs. In fact, Chad has a better career completion % of pass attempts over 20 yards than Favre does.Comment

Re: Favre to the Vikings?
Good article on Favre.
Of course, Favre cannot help himself. How many times did we see it here in 16 years? Of the top 10 quarterbacks ever, Favre is far and away the leader in wrongheaded mistakes. His compulsion to throw into triple coverage 35 yards downfield when someone was open five yards away was what made him great and infuriating. More often than not, he could tip that gambler's balance to his favor when he was 27. Now that he's pushing 40 and still firmly convinced that he could be the difference-maker for a team like the Vikings, let's just say if you're Brad Childress, you should be running and screaming in the other direction.
Naturally, every coach believes he can be the one to control Favre, even if Mike Holmgren was the last to completely do it. But if Favre came to perceive himself as bigger than the Green Bay Packers, what regard would he have for the Minnesota Vikings? Childress, who isn't overly popular with the fans or the Twin Cities media, should be extremely careful what he wishes for.
But since no one has yet made a debt-free life gambling against Favre, it is possible that the police barriers that only come out when the Twins win the World Series could be positioned along Hennepin Ave. this winter. But that would be an awfully cold day, indeed.
So if you've got a financial and/or an emotional investment in the Packers, how are you to react if Favre crosses over?
First, enjoy the spectacle, because this kind of warped, funhouse entertainment isn't likely to come this way again for at least a century or the No. 4 retirement ceremony at Lambeau, whichever comes first.
And second, don't be afraid to hope the inevitable comes to pass. For as insane as this might sound, the Vikings could actually be better off this season with Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels than our man Brett.Last edited by roadman; 06-17-2009, 10:30 AM.Comment

Re: Favre to the Vikings?
Jared Allen had a good interview on Jim Rome's radio show today. He said he would like this to be over one way or another.
I agree with him. They have 2 QB's in Jackson and Sage that are sitting there and you know it's in the back of their minds. If this thing drags until the end of July and then Favre show up, or tells the Vikings he can't play, that's going to change the mood. I know he's waiting on is arm feeling better, but at some point you have to get your TEAM ready. Personally, I do want a healthy Favre, but in the same token, I want this over.
Allen said about the same thing as I wrote. On a side note, he wants to kick Jose Canseco's butt in a MMA fight. No submission. Win via KO.
Allen is awesome.GT: Herkyalert
