People are making great points on 610 WIP. This move was to take the Phillies off their pedestal as the king of this city...getting the most press coverage. Because it was well known that Lurie wanted the Eagles to be the first to win a title here in 25 years. They HATED that the Phillies stole that opportunity.

It's a smart fit for him.

Maybe more for him than the team itself. Barring injury to him or McNabb, he's going to get time at back up to get his skills back, learn the scheme which he's already played in and let some of the heat/media buzz blow over. Strong coaching, good owner and rabid fan base add to the fit.

The 2 year contract lining up with McNabbs two years left is a bit strange though unless they just want to light a fire under McNabbs butt.

Since they closed my thread about how EA will implement Vick I'll go ahead and explain it here. Since the Eagles already have 3 QB's Mike Vick would end up being the #4 QB on the roster. If they wanted to use him as in the wild cat formation, they wouldn't be able to because the NFL rules state that if you have a QB that's; let's say 3rd string, he cannot come in the game over the 2nd string. Those are the NFL rules which eliminates Vick from playing the QB position. Is it likely they will list him as a QB and move him up to 2nd string? Yes they sure will.

In my "don't care about a Bears fan" opinion, I never though this guy was good. The wild cat formation was foiled and it'll never work again. I strongly believe they will bring him in as a RB or WR position because they know the 2nd string QB is an actual QB, not a light weight HB playing QB.

Who knows but my main focus was in Madden. If he's listed as a RB or WR, EA better no F this up and make him a QB. Rules are rules EA. That means no wild cat for Vick. Ok, I can finally sleep now.

He's a lousy passer, always was. You left out his rushing stats though. He does have the highest YPC of all time in the NFL, and is the only QB in history to have 1000 rushing yards in a season. While a typical QB runs with the ball maybe 5-8% of the time, he could run it maybe 30% of the time. And accurate or not, he still has quite an arm, so if you stack the box, you run the risk of getting beat deep. His strength was simply that opposing teams needed to gameplan for him specifically, or else he'd simply run first downs over and over again.

Having Vick as a starting QB was never that good of a proposition. But having him as a backup? A DC has to prep the team for two entirely different games -- one with Vick and one with McNabb. And the Eagles could switch them out any time.

Hell, if they wanted to, they could put both Vick AND McNabb back there simultaneously, and let Vick run screens, or go for flea flickers. McNabb is certainly the better QB but with him on the Eagles, the NFC East is going to have more sleepless nights.

Vick isn't taking over for McNabb this year. Let's make that clear, first and foremost. That's just a ridiculous thing to think.

I'm really looking forward to this offense. I hope they do get him on the field as a situational player, whether that's to get him running or to throw a little bit (that would probably be more surprising then him running).

I wonder how it'll be with McNabb and Vick on the field at the same time. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that Mike Vick is left handed. On the one hand, it could throw off the defense. On the other hand, it could throw off the receivers and even the offensive line.

This year's Eagles offense is going to be crazy. Being around Philly, it's going to be insaaaaaaaane.

I believe the Eagles signing Michael Vick was a very good move. Yeah, Philadelphians are going to be hard on him. We all know this, heck they booed Santa Claus. In my opinion though, Vick has served his time and has been punished enough. His image will always be tarnished but everyone deserves a second chance and I am glad the Eagles were the team that took the leap to do it. It really shows the true colors of Eagles and their management and coaches. Stay classy Philly! E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!
