Re: Edgerrin James has my respect

So we've reached a point where now it is "truly amazing and admirable" that a father actually takes care of his children?

Dang, I didn't know I was one of the greatest men who ever lived.

No, it more sad that he lost the mother of his children and made sure his children was ok with the first day of school before he went to the Seahawks.

As for the article I lament for his loss. Glad to see he's taking care of home though...He could easily had faced the loss of his wife, and sought football (left for Seattle) to help w/ his coping.

Instead he showed what is most important to him, and that speaks volumes to his character.

Someone w/ means to not have to presonally account for their children could've just hired a nanny and gone off to do them...especially when your wife dies, and you're left w/ 4 kids to take care of while being away from them 5-6 months/yr.

Many fathers would've ran at their first opportunity out of being scared of not knowing what to do, but Edge loved his kids more and even if it IS what he's supposed to do by sheer responsibility (freelance & others) doesn't matter.

Many fathers DON'T DO what they're supposed to do, and since that seems to be coming more of the norm today I see no problem in applauding someone for doing the right thing...or what they should be doing in the first place.

Get a solid gold eye patch or try to bring back monocles with a silver one. Maybe make a skull cap out of a gold ring around your head with a fine silk or a fine gold foil.

I think you're trivializing the bigger aspect of how he handled the death of his loved one. Often times people become very selfish (human nature) and focus on their own loss, rather than how it impacts others in their lives.

To be so strongly invested in your children during such a tough time to firmly turn down your new boss' suggestion is admirable. There are many men who would think putting work first was the better idea (and that's not just in the NFL, believe me).

And you should be admired for being a good father. I don't know about "one of the greatest men who ever lived"...lol...but I don't see why having your priorities straight isn't at least somewhat admirable. A lot of people don't.

I don't know why people complain about the garbage reported on a constant basis and then rip apart anything that is positive. Someone respecting Edgerrin James for this shouldn't bother other people so much IMO.

Who was the first couple of guys. The boxer Jack Johnson had a gold tooth. There isn't anything new but I understand your point. My great uncle had a gold tooth and he was from Jamaica.

I agree with you, it's a matter of personal preference, but Edge has gold fronts, ODB style. Your uncle's was probably an actual tooth or a cover for one tooth... not like a gold mouth piece. I think those look pretty stupid too but to each his own.

Yeah, I am not going to front, i always hated gold fronts. Not because of thug stuff but never understand how they could put that stuff on their teeth.

Are you thinking the same about players from Oklahoma, Florida, Penn State, Ohio State, and Tennessee? Because those programs blistered past Miami in the douchebag column the past decade.

But still, people still can't get past a bunch of "gangsters" celebrating after a good play in the late '80s.

I think the rep started when they played Notre Dame. The Catholic vs Convicts signs was pretty harsh. The Bowl game against Texas didn't help either but they were so much better than Texas.

I think the U rep was based more on " how the heck can we beat them" than anything else.

No, "The U" rep is partly based off a bunch of wanna be gangster looking idiots that refuse to state their college by name on the Monday Night Football player intros (or anywhere else for that matter). Instead it's cooler for a grown man to look all mean and thuggish at the camera, flash some gold teeth, make a U sign with their fingers and simply say "The U". I don't feel one bit bad for the rep that college has gotten because almost every one of those clowns fed right in to it.

I don't know. When a former player from one of those teams finds himself in a similar situation then I'll readdress your question.

No, it happen way before the "U" stuff. It started with Jimmy Johnson and those ultra talented teams in the 80's. I remember because I am a Fighting Irish fans and there were a few years that the U tore us a new hole and matter a fact they tore d-1 football a new one.

Those teams were soooooooooooo fast on both side of the ball. What I am trying to say that the hatred of the U came from jealousy. You still see it to this very day.
