Re: Pro Bowl Selections
Agreed. He's good. At the limited role he is given.
The others do alot more when their number is called. That's all I'm saying. He's a specialist. He's Mariano Rivera. Rivera is the best short reliever out there. But he is far from the best pitcher in the game.
If they are going to have a catergory for short yardage WR's, by all means, put him in. But the Pro Bowl isn't suppossed to vote on specialists. Its the best @ the position. Not the best @ a role. & Welker is by no means 10th, maybe not even 15th best, at the position.
What's DeSean Jackson's "role" then? Big play receiver? Speedy deep threat?
You bring up FBs. What about Lorenzo Neal's role when he was a player? He wasn't the best ball carrying FB of his time so he shouldn't have been in? His "role" was to be a blocking back. He wasn't the most complete player at his "position" in his pro bowl seasons so he didn't deserve to go? Maybe we should just eliminate FBs from the pro-bowl roster because they are not the best running backs?
Pulling in Mariano Rivera - one of the best pitchers (regardless of "role") of all time hardly helps your argument. What an absurd apples to oranges statement comparing baseball's Rivera to football's Welker. That's a joke right there.
Your arguments are losing steam.Comment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
Reggie Wayne, Vincent Jackson, and Brandon Marshall get covered by #1 CBs. The Dolphins regularly put a LB on Wes Welker. The guy simply doesn't deserve to be put in the same category as an actual WR. He plays the slot.Last edited by CW McGraw; 12-31-2009, 02:28 AM.Comment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
Marshall was tops in the league in receptions inside the opponents 20 yard line and 2nd inside the 10 yard line. He was also tied for 3rd in 4th quarter TD's. The guy was almost that team's entire offense and he consistently got open against the opponents #1 CB.
Marshall deserves to be there.Comment

Ya'll do know that the "best" players don't make the Pro Bowl team all the time right?#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
Welker is second in catches that go for first down (70), 1 behind Reggie Wayne (71).
He's the #3 WR on % Caught behind Mike Thomas 78.8% (51 targets) and Robert Meachem 78.2% (55 Targets). At 76.3% (160 Targets) he's 11th overall, but ahead of him are RB's who most often catch in the flats.Comment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
I have no problem with Wes Welker going to the Pro Bowl. He fits what New England does perfectly, and is succesful because of it.
If I were the coach of a team, would I rather have him or Vincent Jackson? I would take Jackson. But for something like the Pro Bowl? I have zero problem with him going.Comment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
Joesph vs. Champ Baily is probably your closest bet but, that's still debatable. Let's not forget that Champ is a major part of Denver's pass D and that D held teams like Cincy, Dallas and The Giants to less than 10 points. Hell, the Pat's only scored 17 on them. I mean, Joesph did intercept 3 more balls and all but, it would still be hard to vote against Champ.Comment

Clay Matthews will be replacing Bears LB Lance Briggs on the NFC Squad, according to Packersnews.com.
So that bumps our total to 4 we'll be sending to South Beach(Rodgers, Collins, Woodson, Matthews)#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Pro Bowl Selections
Now that Welker is out and randy is the reserve who does that put as the new reserve? I still don't exactly know how the Pro Bowl works with injuries and alternates and such.Comment
